Rahm Plays Innocent

  • Mayor Rahm Emanuel on Tuesday defended Ald. Howard Brookins’ simultaneous right to be a defense attorney representing gang members and an alderman turning up the heat on Police Supt. Garry McCarthy to reduce gang violence.

Emanuel washed his hands of what Brookins (21st) considers a blistering and unfair attempt to dirty up and shut up the chairman of the City Council’s Black Caucus by portraying him as a political hypocrite.

Chicago Sun-Times columnist Michael Sneed reported Sunday that Brookins was “undermining police action” against the gang violence triggering Chicago’s homicide rate by “talking out of both sides of his mouth.”

Sneed reported that Brookins recently got 2010 gun charges dismissed against Kerry Stinson, 46, described in police reports as a member of the Gangster Disciples/Black P Stone nation with a lengthy arrest record.

But now he's pure as the driven snow, right Howard?
  • Brookins welcomed the mayor’s support and said he blames “someone at the Police Department” — not Emanuel or his political operatives — for the failed attempt to discredit and silence him.

[...] Brookins noted that the example used to discredit him includes an “innocent” man.

“I could see if they had picked somebody I might have represented who was clearly guilty and shot a cop. But why would they pick somebody who was not guilty? Why can’t they accept the fact that he had a right to competent representation and that was found not guilty?” Brookins said.

"Not guilty" is a bit different from "innocent," Howie. But we don't have to be lawyers to tell you that, do we?

The mayor was also quote as saying something along the lines as what he does in his private life is his business. If that's true for alderman then it should be true for all city employees. Stay out of my private life along the lines of what I make and filling ethic statements, telling me I can not drink, own a bar, etc. those are all things that deal with my private life.

Brookins is through. The mayor is only making that comment so it looks as if his hands are clean. plausible deniability.
Brookins has a lot of dirt and skeletons more so than most. Aldermen cant represent a client against city interests. Brookins should have referred the case to another lawyer.
Big ethics violation. Goodbye Howie.

Latest Command decision is that everyone will have a partner no matter what. From here on out your partner will be responsible for making engine and squealing tire noises. You as driver will be issued a steering wheel. As you proceed from job to job if necessary the driver will make the siren sound as your partner revs the engine and "peels out". If you think this will be difficult think about the poor bastards in mounted patrol. The front of the horse noises aren't so bad, which partner gets the rear end noises. Come to think of it Command staff are all the Horses asses we need.

The important thing is that the game has been played and the sheeple will divert their short attention spans away from this to more important things like March Madness while their city and state crumble around them from the pilfering of the socialists.

Unless they're drinking Monster energy drinks before the ban goes into effect. Perhaps the Chicago Teachers' Union can get involved and express their condolences on the passing of Hugo Chavez, their socialist comrade in the revolution. That will help to take the spotlight away.

True story. Was working the election detail years ago in the suburbs, driving attorneys around to polling places. Brookins was one of the lawyers hired by the SAO for the day, but I think he was a public defender. Brookins shows up with a BROOKINS FOR ALDERMAN button on. The other lawyer, embarrassed, had to tell this bonehead to take it off. Sounds like the alderman is judge material to me.

A failed attempt to discredit and silence him? Well here is a factoid of politics for Mr. Bookins: you discredit yourself in your actions and you never shut your big lying mouth. Only Club Fed can silence lying, stealing and cheating politicians. So you run happily and merrily along. Your problem in this state only begins when the Feds open a jacket for you. The problem is they open it about a year or two before you know it. Only then do they come knocking on your door.

The issue here is not whether a criminal defendant is entitled to an attorney.

The real issue is whether a Chicago Alderman can represent a criminal defendant charged with a crime by the Chicago Police?

So the same people who provide funding to the Chicago Police are also providing a defense against the Chicago Police? I can't quote you chapter and verse off the top of my head from the Rules of Professional Conduct (only on the first cup of coffee so far), but this one stinks to high heaven from a mile away.

If Chicago Policemen with law licenses are prohibited from practicing criminal law, I don't see why Chicago Alderman should be treated any different.

Not LEO, just a lawyer.

...which tells you at least that 200,000 people of the type who will answer a census have departed.

That leaves people who take down their flags and take the 15 different names off their mailboxes and pull the shades and turn out the lights and no one is home until it blows by.

Sanctuary City. That's what the Mayors say they want, that's what they are building.

Interesting how raw scores can be done on some tests that very few want to take, yet the same can't be done for Sgts, Lts, etc. Unbelievable

C' mon people think, When do most court cases take place? during the days , correct? When are aldermen usually working? During the day, am I correct? The most important question of the day , one in which any one of us would be stripped and indicted for would most likely be, Are not these actions , alderman & attorney, be performed at the same time.... DOUBLE DIPPING.... Two pay checks while on city time???? Just saying ....

Wealthy Rauner launches exploration of Republican governor bid

2:48 p.m. CST, March 5, 2013

"Wealthy Chicago businessman Bruce Rauner moved a step closer Tuesday toward a potential bid for the Republican governor nomination, filing papers to form an exploratory committee and launching a 60-day listening tour of the state.

"The venture capitalist and private equity specialist already has been making the rounds of the Republican county Lincoln Day dinner circuit.

"Rauner said that in his travels of the state, “Folks seem hungry for an outsider who can’t be bribed and won’t be bought in Springfield.”

"Rauner, who’s making his first bid for elective office, said he planned on holding more than 35 events in the next two months and would court industry leaders as well as “teachers and first responders, along with leaders of our party.”

Rauner has been outspoken in his opposition to public employee unions. He also is close (!) to Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel and was appointed by the mayor to the city's economic development and job creation council."

In Ghetto neighborhoods, they would give us a list of ”handicapped folks” homes to shovel out. In Brookins ward, the houses on the list were drughouses. Nice. I refused, and threatened to get a reporter to follow me around. I see he hasn''t changed.

You should be driving a used car and be putting the max in deferred so you can retire from this place on the first day you are eligible. Go to a Park District pool, they are free or find a friend that likes to squander money and use his.

You know when you will see the light about saving and investing? When retirement is about a year away and you realize you've been blowing your money for almost 29 years.

Anyone on this job should max out deferred on day one and never deviate, you can retire with at least a half million in your 457k, at least. More if you are careful. You want deferred to give you 2 or 3 thousand extra a month for life plus your pension.

Then, when retirement is upon you, then and only then can you go buy a new car. I laugh when I see all these coppers driving a new car or leased Mercedes or BMW's and looking like a big spender. The car dealers love you chumps.

Save like a miser and leave this job as soon as you can with some relative wealth. How's you like to retire and suddenly you get a raise of around 30%? Not if you buy or lease new cars and big swimming pools.

'Looks' is not what it's all about. It's about being comfortable in the thirty or so years you may have AFTER you retire.
No one needs a new car every two years. No one needs the flashiest jewelry. And no one is saying you have to deny yourself everything that makes you happy. Just weigh what you might want against what you really need and you'll find you can sock away a lot of money for that day when some greedy politician wants to deny your pension, or tax you into poverty.
You won't miss the money if you have it taken out of your check from day one. I never did and now I wish I HAD used deferred comp. (Yes, I invested well and did fine by not touching my investments, except to re-invest.)
But deferred is painless. Bank it and forget about it. You'll be smugly buying vettes and whatever else you want at the end of this career and you won't give a damn if some young pup on an anonymous blog thinks you look silly at the pool.

It's clear you haven't been promoted by either merit or your test scores. So it's time for you to hit the books old school. New UCR codes are out there: one for aggravated battery with hands/feet/fists with minor injury (UCR 0440 me thinks). another UCR code is for aggravated battery with hands with serious injury (might be 0479--i don't have them memorized but these but can be easily checked).

Not a merit guy. just someone who keeps up with the rules, laws, etc., something the police should be doing.

example 1: Cubs fan punches White Sox fan in the face. Miscellaneous incident report, simple battery, or 19E after Sox fan gets mad for spilling his beer.

example 2: north sider punches south sider on the public way outside a Cubs game. south side was too drunk to see the punch coming and got a bloody nose but he will be fine. Agg Batt minor injury case report.

example 3: South Sider punches north sider on public way or anywhere. Agg Batt serious injury, or just dup it to ambulance if you don't like to do paper.

Go right ahead. Do you think those car salesman are smiling when you come in because they like you? They see Police on your app and know you are good for a new car every two or three years. I don't have to tell you what that money is worth after 30 years invested in something that appreciates rather than depreciates because you obviously know it all. Ever heard of compound interest?

I learned to adjust my wants and needs and make good decisions on priorities.

I never owned a Corvette, never wanted one, not my style. A new Honda Accord suits me fine and the financial security of knowing I will never want for anything.

I am 63, and thankfully have my health and no beer belly due to no beer. And I am retired and have a pile in deferred. I never wanted for anything while I was working. Even the 10 year old cars got me where I was going and I enjoyed it all with a smile.

Wants vs. needs

Of course, someone has to keep the Corvette assembly plant going so have at it. I look at Corvettes once a year at the Auto Show. And the house here is paid for and small mortgage on the one in Arizona.

Two houses that appreciate, not like that new car of yours but you enjoy yourself. When you go to retire you might wonder about where all those real sharp cars you used to have are at. At the car recycler going into new shiny cars most likely.

I have a story about two old wagon men who loved to go to the casino. They enjoyed life as you say. Both worked till 63 and both got new jobs after the CPD because they have to. Not for me, might be for you but no thanks.

all things being equal, i prefer old school thinking.

though, i must admit, new breed thinking does make my work a whole lot easier.
