An Insightful Article
Children running amok in the streets, wilding downtown, catching bullets left and right. If you'd like to read something insightful about the entire situation, try this article. Here's one of the better observations in the whole thing:
- Many people can and do succeed in the midst of family brokenness, of course. Yet the risks of failing are far too high when kids are raised in the context of relational instability. Socioeconomic mobility and multigenerational poverty are empirically linked to family stability like never before.
Family is society writ small, where one builds basic human capital, social capital, and skills. In Schulz’s calculation, family is a basic, vital economic unit—the X factor. Family builds empathy and self-control, which in turn shapes character. Character fosters human capital (“knowledge, education, habits, willpower”) and social capital (assets “created and maintained by relationships of commitment and trust”), which ultimately generates economic growth. You could practically build a formula out of it.
Empathy in particular is linked to social capital, while self-control informs much of human capital, allowing individuals to be invested in the long-term good rather than short-term gain. We also see this influence in an assortment of non-cognitive skills, such as delayed gratification, which, as Walter Mischel established around 1989, is a core factor in individual success.
We just thought it had some pretty astute observations and thought we'd share the article with the class.

Preachin' to the choir Rev'run SCC!
>Rustle-Crinkle... Sound of a 3 dollar denomination Phleger Note hitting the collection plate...<
It's the new issue bill... Instead of the all seeing eye and the pyramid, it's two raccoon eyes hovering over a pyramidal pile of shit labeled "Chicago" on the reverse side.
Anyway...
One can go back to the very founding of this blog to see these very same things laid out in virtually EVERY thread over the years by the people who not only SEE this stuff from the inside of a Blue & White for 20 to 40+ years but have the joy and pleasure of managing the aftermath.
These academics tongue-wag all muthafuckin'day about "Theory" and they're accorded much respect and often times much financial reward...
Policemen are the only ones worth anything who get to live and sometimes die during the course of practical application.
Policemen are accorded grevious second-guessing, prejudging and shit-talk while trying to mitigate their exposure to the business end of the shit-stick.
And somehow, people get indignant when they see that Policemen are not bravely embracing the business end of the shit-stick.
That seeming lack of embrace fucks up a lot of peoples heads.
Thus...
*Well, You Coppers won't willingly embrace the business end of the shit-stick and it upsets us... didn't you guys swear an oath or something? That's why we don't support you guys*
*YOU COPS ARE THE PROBLEM HERE! WHY WON'T YOU GUYS JUST ACCEPT IT ALREADY?*
Wait until you see the future here shortly. Multi-generational poverty and lack of mobility associated with it. You ain't seen nothing yet!
It's not like the "old days" where work hard and it eventually pays off. We have 50% of college grads unemployed and 50% of the college grads that do find a job are underemployed in positions that do not require a degree.
The kids are moving back home with mom and dad but let's see how that works out after getting suckered into government sponsored predatory lending student loans that are going into default as we speak resulting in beyond six-figures debts with only Wal-Mart like jobs available.
Don't hold your breath waiting for the real estate market that is a prime driver of this economy to recover as long as that is going on.
The social contract is broken and there are many still living in this dream world of "well I did it, so anyone else can do it".
Watch Detroit. Illinois elite lawmakers are waiting for Detroit to see if they can bust the pensions and Illinois will follow in their footsteps.
God help us once people realize it was all lies that they have been sold. All that glorified capital that was written about in this story may likely be seen as worthless propaganda and a return to survival of the fittest. We hope not. However from what I'm seeing it doesn't look good.
And to think those failures may attend school with our children makes me sick. As mentioned this is "multi generation" of animals simply breeding animals. As a result the rest of the country has to foot the bill and become victims of crime and civil unjust. How can you help those who do not want to evolve into humans? Parenting failed from one generation to the next over and over again in some communities. If parents don't give a damn why should we as a society continue to sacrifice our families and resources for a lost cause? We are making bad investments as a nation. Wake up folks the hood rats are coming to your neighborhood if they are not there already.

And the Democrats just keep spending what they do not have.
A fine informative article but nobody on the west or south sides would understand any of it.
It's a hustle from a 47th St store-front-church where the Rev'run, Pastor, or Bishop (or whatever the fuck he/she deems the title that morning) begins to pass around the collection plate for the 6th time in 30 minutes.
The unreality of life created by Hollywood and the deification of pro athletes has created a clueless society who thinks you can go to a so-called "college" and get a great job cleaning bedpans. Real colleges crank out graduates with useless skills and unreal expectations. I'm old and when I was young there was already a glut of lawyers trying to earn enough to pay for their wing tip shoes.
Reality is hard and especially hard for the stupid.
Multi-generational WELFARE is more accurately the cause. Being poor doesn't mean you're necessarily lazy or rudderless. But being on welfare for generations, without bettering yourself for your family, unfortunately does.
The Shock Doctrine: The Rise of Disaster Capitalism by Naomi Klein.
This book explains much of what is being done to us.
Generational poverty? The middle class families have to re-locate to other states because the police seem to favor the ones from "generational poverty" over working people, especially minorities. These gangbangers roam the streets loudly taunting their victims and your officers pretend there is noting they can do. Or do they presume everybody in these areas is poverty stricken and suffering from "generational poverty"?
Dat article be RAY-CIST!

What the hell are you on this blog crying for?
"...your officers pretend there is noting they can do."
You're fuckin' A right there's nothing the Police can (proactively) do about the mess YOU AND LIKE MINDED PEOPLE (or Folks) LIKE YOU HAVE ENABLED AND EMPOWERED TO HAPPEN IN THIS CITY!
No Policeman is going to be foolish enough to risk "doing something" to YOUR satisfaction!
The Policing game has CHANGED over the last quarter century, you willfully blind and tone-deaf idiot!
The game now is putting Policemen in prison for hurting shit-head's feelings.
You people have sided with shit-heads, politicians, media, make-believe, storefrontin', bullhorn yellin' clergy in destroying the hard headed, arm-strong law enforcement you have the nerve to be crying for now...
Fuck You...
Everytime the Police are called to quash urban foolishness, nobody knows nothin' and everybody is waving a damn camera phone around like it's a magical talisman.
MAKE UP YOUR FUCKING MINDS!
Either you want the Police for more than just cleaning up the messes YOU'VE ALLOWED TO FESTER FOR NEARLY 50 YEARS, or you can just come clean and admit you don't want the Police in your neighborhoods at all!
NO! YOU CANNOT HAVE IT BOTH WAYS!
We're not paid enough to give a flying fuck at the end of the day
We're not obligated to give a fuck either.
Our sympathy gland ceased working many years ago...
We handle the task at hand and move the fuck on to the next one.
We have no interest in hand holding or singing kumbayah with you because we know that you've had a hand in allowing things to decay to the point they have.
Try putting on the REAL DUTIES that come with citizenship such as jealously guarding and exercising your vote so as not to allow a political power structure to become so entrenched as it has in Chicago.
Or is that too heavy a burden for you and yours?
GTFOH!
Always looking for a chance to shift blame...
We handle the task at hand and move the fuck on to the next one.

WoW, This guy said it all in a short statement. After off the job and retired for 2 years, you street coppers should read this guys words. He is on the money 100percent. Fuck the mutts and the great society that made it happen.
The mutts rule and let them shot each other, you cap them, you lose and the city will jack you up.
Be safe, write paper and let the mutts run their rat hole areas,
The real question is how much longer can the tax paying citizens be expected to supply every visible mean of support to people whose only contribution to society is voting the way they are told to?
