Bonuses?
First up, we don't agree with any sort of bonuses for any city employees. You get a posted salary. Opportunities for extra money come through extra work (VRI, Special, CTA) or hours spent doing what is actually your job outside of regular hours (overtime, court, cancelled RDO's).

In spite of those 3,168 layoffs, 134 principals will be getting fatter paychecks.
For the second straight year, Mayor Rahm Emanuel doled out bonuses Thursday — ranging from $5,000 to $20,000 apiece — to principals credited with boosting academic growth.
Granted, it's not taxpayer money, and many of the principals are going to dump the money back into their schools in some form or another, but after laying-off thousands and raising property taxes to the limit for how many straight years, this just sends the wrong message.
Rahm is tone-deaf once again, but he gets to dole out money and play the big man on campus, so it must be great.

Rahm's strategy is very simple: Rub it in the face of the teachers who failed to kiss his ass by doling out money to everyone--principals, charters--but stick it up the ass of the teachers. They'll pay and pay until he crushes their backs. It's all-out war.
Is that considered buying votes? Sure wonder if it is in reality. Something like nice guy wins.

Keep spending on thing that do not improve nor fix existing budget issues.

I just can't understand how they live at home with a budget there.
It was touted as a big deal earlier this year when he found a million for the arts in CPS. But he found a million and a half for Teach For America which brings in new college grads to staff the Noble Street Charters (Rauner's Baby). These kids come in for two years on 5 weeks training and then head off to med school or law school. Meanwhile the career teachers who've been layed off and who are part of the city's middle class are SOL. I agree with the earlier poster "all-out war".
Bonuses for CPS? That's a laugh.
If a manufacturing company produced 50% defective parts of their total output, they would be out-of-business and no one would even be getting their checks.
How many kids graduate Chicago Public Schools? 50%? 40%? No bonuses have been earned with that number of graduates - you have over half defective because they are drop-outs.

I believe Leo got a bonus in the form of a BS promotion to deputy chief. Oh yeah, and because he took McCarthy on a trip to the superbowl.
It is a payoff for the principles falling in line and going along with Tiny Dancer's bullshit.

Bonuses, pensions, etc. will all fall by the wayside and are going bye, bye. What is happening in Detroit will take place all across the nation. Goal: Equalize the inequality by turning Americans into 3rd world paupers.

I know for a fact that for at least the last 25 yrs Principal's have received a bonus every year based on the attendece of the students. Is this the first time you heard of this? That's why they never want to kick a student out since their bonus for the year will go down. That's why they never get rid of the shitheads. They don't care if they don't come to school but if they drop them they don't get the money.
I wish I could get a bonus for all the "extra" work I do around here.
Any truth to the story that Rham-father had four Commanders, the Supt, and other City Dept heads in for a meeting regarding Safe Passage? Also heard that the entire meeting was filled with F-bombs being thrown by a very nervous Rham-father??

While the generous donation to CPS principals from Rauner may not be taxpayer dollars. The $$$ for his Noble Street schools are. Notice how Rahm has such a hard-on for Noble Street? There's one on Augusta and Milwaukee...right next to Peabody Elementary, which closed...preliminary "fuck you" to the old timer/fake cop poster on here who starts spouting about teachers being "libtard pinko commies." If I had to pigeonhole myself and probably a fair amount of teachers, we'd fall into a pro-union, pro choice, pro something libertarian mindset.
These bonuses only create a bigger gap between principals and their teachers. They also encourage principals to manipulate test scores to show improvement.
He knows that 35% of the cps lives outside the city.

His wife ellyn retired so to get more $$ for her loss of income he got promoted must be nice huh? Wonder how all the other commanders feel? Working for less while doing same job extra money!
A majority of all the trade unions have there training centers in Elk Grove,Alsip,Worth,Mokena and they are affilated with the Chicago Federation of Labor.How many union members are on Alsips payroll?

Giving principals a bonus is like giving bums padded benches to sleep on . Neither deserve it.
Im for bonuses based on sending under budget while maintaining already low service eves.
I don't understand all the apathy against the teachers, like the reason CPS kids are no the brightest is due to them teaching addition wrong or something.
CPS cannot....
1. prevent momma from drinking, drugging and smoking during her pregnancy and afterwards
2. feed the child properly outside the two meals already provided
3. get the child to sleep at a reasonable hour
4. ensure the child speaks the Queen's English at home
5-1000. I could go on and on but I think you get my drift

Many teachers and principals spend some of their own money on supplies and treats for the kids.
The principals may be also be afraid that this money is going to burn them in the furure so carefully account for it by spending it on the kids.
There may be a few honest people in the bunch.

what's with bonuses..Cgo is not a private corporation...it belongs to the Taxpayers and I protest....no bonuses for principals. what say 'ye'??
The principals who are clouted get the dollars, of course, and so do any who have 'controlled' parents who question Rahm's policies, like
having 36 kids in a classroom, with no cap on the number of kids with special needs.
giving kindergartners 10 standardized tests a year,
or
closing 50 schools.
