Any sort of info on this would be appreciated by some 9,600 coppers and retirees:
- Labor bd just ruled against fop and said shields should have sent the letter. Thanks to Shields, his attorney Geiger, and Geiger's boy Doherty, we are out any retro we would have received among other things.
We certainly hope that this isn't true. But if it is, look for someone to negotiate a 0% increase for the first year of the contract (the year already passed). Then they can argue no harm done.

I put in my retirement papers for next year after I called the FOP to find out if I would be guaranteed the 55 health care coverage. Last week FOP assured me that yes, if my papers were in before Oct. 1, that I would get the 55 health care option.

Yeah I hear what you're saying but for the life of me I don't understand how they can "end around things" without the friggin fop letting us know. The fop is who agrees to "end around things" like the screwed up back room agreement to convert our vacation days into hours to name just one. Fop is NEVER a victim of the mayor. They make deals without telling us ALL the time. We find out about it after the fact. How hard is it post this on their site or send one of the many Vice Presidents to the districts or even clue the reps in. BS.

Don't panic just yet people! Did we receive a 1% raise Jan 2013? I did not. According to the contract the city can "renew" our contract of the prior year (Jan 2012 we got a 1% raise) if this so called "letter" was not filed. Well, where is the 1% if this is the case?
Also, if in fact this did happen the 0% raise idea can't happen either. You see our new contract will either be starting from June 2012 when it was supposed to expire or if the "letter" thing is true then our contract will start June 2013. It's not the percentage of the raises but rather when the contract starts.
Funny thing, if Shields did screw up then the City Wide Team sat back and watched it happen. If this "letter" thing is true then both Shields and the old City Wide Team can eat corn out of my ass!

I consider myself a independent leaning toward republican with my views however you do know that republicans are mostly anti union right???? Just because republicans are more conservative dont think for a second that they will just throw money at us. Face it, democrats hate us, republicans hate us and everyone who is a politico hates us because we are such a HUGE burden on the city/state with high salaries, high medical costs, bitchy unions and expensive pensions who refuse to any type of pension reform including higher percentages of contribution. We pay 9 percent.. they same as more than 20 years ago... I know we didnt create the pension mess... we paid our part but if we want a pension in the future we better start swallowing our pride on a few things and think about contributing a little more so we can have more when we retire. Way too many people on this department are short sighted and focused only on money now now now. To all of you who voted for Shields: How do you feel? You believed all of that chest-beating bravado bullshit when he was running for FOP President and you voted for the Little Punk. Info: The letter in question sat on his desk for several months to be signed by him. He refused to sign it,even after being told what the consequences would be for the FOP Members. He intentionally fucked this up. Was it out of spite,or was it because he cut a deal with Rahm?

I regret ever voting for him and giving him support. Trust me when I say it's my biggest regret. I was fooled into thinking he was our best option.
Wake up police YOU elected Shields and Rahm so stop your crying. Next election vote the republican way, there is no one standing behind you in the election booth.
I know of no one who voted for Rahm...sworn or civilian.
I agree with other posts that spread the blame out. Yes it's the FOP President's responsibility and he knew our contract would be coming up so he should have asked or had his people get all the info on procedures....BUT those die hards that have been on the FOP staff for very long, out of vengeance, wanted Shields to make a mistake. They did not give a rats butt about the mmbership. They did not care what it would cost us. They do not care know. They've been there too long and have no real loyalty to us. Time for all of them to go!

Um we are policemen and we have to do the job we get paid for not what we woulda shoulda coulda get paid. Get some integrity will ya? Laying down on the job is cheating the public and cheating ourselves. It has nothing to do with our contract so stop looking for reasons to be a dog.
the majority of police officers do not attend FOP meetings. As a result they are ignorant of what occurs at these meetings and also do not get a chance to listen to our leaders speak on every subject. Mike Shields has worked at the Pension Board for the past two years and finally gave that position to Mike Lappe. Because of his absence at the Hall this is what is the result, no retro check among other things. Mike Shields knows that the majority of voters in the upcoming election are retirees. Because of that the copper working today is secondary in his mind ,because WE don"t vote.Until that changes we will continue to get representatives who cater to the retirees before the active members!!!!you get who u don'ttvote for!!

sounds like a shields guy who cant accept reality.. the KID has no clue what he is doing. He made waves and talked a good game while videotaping pension board meetings but doesnt know sh*t about our union. hes a know it all who doesnt know anything. time to go little mike. GAVE?? it to mike Lappe????? no, mike lappe (who i voted for) was voted in through an election. It was a good win for him but nothing was GIVEN to him by shields.. He ran for it in an election and won it.. it wasnt a landslide either, mike lappe earned that win. But, he is the right man for the job.
Not a Shields guy, but an old timer, who kows a couple of rats when he sees them. If you don't like Shields, don't vote for him, but wait and see how this plays out. Don't fall for Bill and Rich's Bs. Theyy are two very ambitious guys, and will stop at nothing, to get their way.
3. People are positioning themselves to run for office now and I’ll guess a lot of the posting is those people planning to run for office. If any of those are from the Donahue group I have one question. “Why did you not layout everything that needed to be down in the first few months after Shields took office?” Did you screw over the whole department to make sure Mikey had some egg on his face?
The truth will come out and this one is all on Mikey!

I remember when Shields made the videos demanding answers from the board and guys applauded him. Now so many guys can't wait to throw him under the bus. He messed up by not sending the letter,okay we got that,but there are always moves to counter what the mayor has done. Start thinking and stop whining!!
