Other Attacks on the Police

The most serious one you probably read about or saw on the news. We've hard from a couple of people that the Officer is improving slowly and looks to have a bit of a recovery ahead of him.

We hadn't heard about these other incidents though. From the comments:
  • is everyone also aware of the canine unit who was shot at in the 5000 south block of winchester on 23 aug between 15:00 and 16:00 hrs.
  • A police car was shot at late Friday night in the city's Chicago Lawn neighborhood, police said.

An officer was driving an unmarked police car in the 6600 block of South Oakley Avenue when the officer heard shots fired, [...], a police spokesman.

Several bullets hit the undercover car, but no one was injured in the shooting...
First up, will someone please explain why the Officer in 007 was working by himself? The FOP is making some noise, but we need a lot more:
  • The officer was working alone in his squad car, Camden said. He said the officer arrived to the scene to find people fighting and called for backup. While he waited, he saw a man try to hit a woman with a baseball bat, Camden said.

When the officer confronted the man with the bat, he was attacked and hit in the head.

"Fortunately, help was arriving at that point," Camden said. "[But] had he been in a two-man car in the first place, that wouldn't have happened."

Camden said the incident underscores the union's concern that there are not enough cops to keep both the public and police safe.
Has McJersey visited the Officer in the hospital yet? We've had a number of comments saying he hasn't.

If I was injured, I would prefer that McEgo not visit me in the hospital, thanks.
No grandstanding at the expense of the injured officer, please.

Though anytime day or night in some neighborhoods it's a risk even with
Two.
I hope the guy recovers OK

OT:

I wonder if that company Rahm likes Accretive health care..wonder if they were in the er trying to ask the officer how he was gonna pay? That's what the Minn AG accused them of resulting in a ban from that state.

This violence here is good money for Accretive I would imagine.

McFailure is too busy dealing with his puppet masters planned media event: Safe Passage.
Rahm is pulling out all stops to make sure everything supposedly works for the first week or so.
Let's see if Rahm is still mugging it for the camera in Oct. regarding Safe Passage.
Is it just me or does it seem like Rahm is spending lots of dollars to allegedly save a few dimes. Once again his ego gets in the way and his priorities are all screwed up.

The damn public servants and their pensions though we're the problem right Rahm?

McStupor did not visit because he didn't want to hear the question, "Why are you letting officers work 99 in places like 007?"

OFFICERS!! Don't be heroes and go to two-person calls while you are 99. You think you are helping the dispatcher get rid of jobs. You think you look tough or brave to your fellow officers. You are trying to look like a hard worker to your sergeant.

You are doing them, and your loved ones a disservice. There are certain jobs designated as two-person jobs for a reason: SAFETY. (examples, all domestics, In Progress calls, disturbances, alarms, these are all examples from the past when Police Officers were KILLED while working alone)

We can force the city to hire more police when we WAIT for backup because citizens will complain more when the police do not show up for their calls for service until two officers show up.

Any asshole that directs a pitball to attack a PO needs to be taken out first to stop the threat (owner commanding dog to attack); dog taken out with next two rounds.

Rahm and McTeaBag say "Crime is down" but they are lying.

CompStat is nothing more than the "Creative Classifications" of crime.

for example, burglaries are reduced to "criminal trespass to residence" and "theft"; robberies are reduced to "battery" and "theft"; some attacks on police officers have been classified as "simple batteries" or hidden under a different case report; some murders have been reduced to "death investigations."

There are many p.o.s who have been told to change their reports to reflect a lower crime. That doesn't mean "crime is down," it just means the truth has been concealed.

The "Team" concept when applied to Police Service is Bullshit. Nobody who comes into this game should think this is not a Contact Sport, unless of course you are of the anointed class in which case you will never really work the street. But for the rest of us we expect to have confrontations and rolling around on the ground with Dude. However, putting someone alone on Midnights, on a weekend in Englewood is absolute bad management and "coaching". GUESS THEY NEVER HEARD OF A THREE MAN CAR IN NEW YORK! Oh, I forgot we have to man the beat to the point that we create illusions of manpower? Finally, the "Team", in Pro-Sports for all those Moron Bosses who talk about the "Team", if the coach is a dope, you lose the game. In the Police Sport if the Coach is a moron, you lose life. I hope this officer recovers, but nobody ever fully recovers from that amount of head trauma, personalities change, memory, speech. THE FOP NEEDS TO DEMAND THAT NO OFFICER WORKS A ONE MAN CAR AT NIGHT, ESPECIALLY IN ENGLEWOOD. IF THE CITY CANNOT MAN THE CARS HIRE MORE OFFICERS.

Let me understand this, the Cop is not breathing on his own, his wife is at the hospital, and Rahm is too busy to come down? Or did he not want to confront the wife whose father was a CPD Sgt. (retired Drappy, 008 Tac and Mass Transit), because the wife has been around the job all her life and might have asked why was my husband in a one man car on midnights in Englewood? Could you imagine Rahm fumbling for an answer if the Media was watching? He'd probably start stuttering like our prior midget mayor.

Forget about why was he working by himself. A better observation why was he responding or taking any action by himself? I get we are the police, but you should always wait for an assist even if it takes an hour. Responding by yourself only supports our jagoff mayor's do more with less policies. Better to protect yourself than subscribe to his lunacy. Let the mutts kill one another and then pick up the pieces.

Don't blame the FOP. Here's the reality dudes and dudettes. Trying to get time off sucks now. Want to make it impossible? Demand that you have to be two-man. When you need a day off you'll here "Sorry, can't do it officer. Your partner won't work alone."

There isn't a real fix for this other than to wait for an assist car. I constantly hear coppers saying "Give him a waive off. I'll let you know." It could be too late for help by the time you have to let them know.

We need to police smarter and more safely. And no, I'm not Monday morning quarterbacking, I wasn't there. I'm referring to the future.

The tactics of CPD officers these days are atrocious. Most cops can't do a simple traffic stop safely. They just rely on the suspect not taking advantage of their unsafe approach, until the suspect does take his advantage.

Running a VIN with the driver still behind the wheel, taking four occupants out of a car all at once, one cop watching three uncuffed suspects while the partner plays on the computer, approaching for the purpose of writing a contact card instead of conducting a pat down, walking toward suspicious suspects instead of commanding them to come toward you...

But, the most prevalent problem is conducting any stop without a plan. Just letting the suspect make your decisions for you. Very, very dangerous and, sadly, very, very common.

Below is a comment on why the officer may have been working alone

This is a quote I took from FB from someone who was actually there: "This was an awful thing that happened, and I know everyone is working hard to find the animals responsible. They WILL be brought to justice. You have gotten misinformation though, and I'm sure it came from the usual place/site. He was NOT ASSIGNED 99. His partner had a last minute emergency, and he asked to work alone. The watch commander told him to hang on and was going to find him someone else to work with and he said just to call him back in when they found someone. The officer went straight out on his own because he's a great worker and a hard charger. This was horrible, but you can't blame it on the union or the department this time. Sometimes bad things just happen and you can't blame anyone but the thugs who committed the crime". End Quote

First off, The Officer that was attacked is a great guy and a very hardworking Officer. Wishing him a full recovery...

There is always a call for more Officers to be hired.Yes, we need more, well, more that actually want to work and show some initiative.

But, how about all the dead weight we already have on the payroll? Why do they get a free pass?

We all know who they are on our respective watches. The people who don't back others up, never show up to in progress calls or they make sure to show up after the slow down or disregard, the people who sit on jobs for an eternity, go in the 'hole' every night etc. It's a disgrace.

It's easy to sit back and complain about what we don't have and what we won't be getting anytime soon. How about getting more out of what we already have. Not the people who are already making an effort, but the people who just come in, go through the motions and go home.
