Anyone Know What This is About?
It appears to be an interview of a Tribune reporter discussing the merits of the Anthony Porter case and how the media collectively ignored that overwhelming evidence contained in the file that proved beyond a doubt, that Porter was guilty and that the Northwestern professor and his "students" were perpetrating a fraud on the citizens of Illinois. That led to the overturning of the Illinois death penalty by making it seem like death row was full of innocent people - it wasn't, but the media and politicians threw their lot in with the bleeding heart crowd.

Veeeery Interesting. The man in the video is William (Bill) Crawford, a retired Chicago Tribune 'Reporter' -- telling side note in the video how he uses 'Reporter' over 'Journalist', that's the problem with the MSM of today, they're all 'Journalists', NOT "Reporters".
Anywho, Crawford looked into the Anthony Porter fiasco. Porter, a Gang Member and convicted Killer of two teens who were shot dead in '82 in Washington Park. Porter was hours from being executed in '99. He was freed by the pinkos at Northwestern with 'new' evidence that somehow only they were able to obtain. Like a Video Confession by the 'real killer' himself.
So a little google search turned up this 10-22-13 article in the Chicago Reader on the whole matter. It goes into some good background detail on everything but the salient part is that CCSA Anita Alverez is reopening the case for another look. As it seems that Northwestern's work in freeing Porter was a little 'too good'. It's also interesting to note that the Prof who led this and other 'Innocence Investigations' was subsequently kicked out of Northwestern (Fired) for phonying up 'evidence' to free convicted killers.

That asshole Protess now writes for the Huffington Post . I called him out on the Howard Morgan case and they wouldn't allow me to make comments on the site anymore. Of all the papers The Reader and Michael Miner did a series on the Innocence Project in which they detail all the facts. They found instances of witnesses getting promised money and the Northwestern law department accused Protest of "knowingly making false and misleading statements to the dean, to University attorneys, and to others."

The Northwestern University Innocence Project garnered worldwide publicity for their work. But once they themselves came under fire and they were caught red handed forging documents, forging testimony, having a student trade sex for the testimony they wanted, etc... where was the publicity? When the professor was caught red handed lying and he resigned, where was the publicity?
Look, I am sorry, but the vast majority of these low lives are completely 100% innocent. Most of them have very long records. And that for crimes they were charged with. If anything, I feel sorry for the people who live in the South and West sides who are on the straight and narrow. I don't feel one iota of a pittance of sympathy for life long career criminals.
When you thoroughly research this case, you will come to two inescapable conclusions:
(1) Anthony Porter is a double murderer.
(2) David Protess and so-called private eye Paul Ciolino are lying dirtbags.

I am one of the Detectives who was assigned to this case. Me and my partner was sued for over $20 million dollars in court. We won the case and was found not guilty of the alligations filed against us. However, there was no public vindication regarding the outcome of that case. I have been waiting for a very long time for this case to be "looked into and/or reopened again" so that me and my partner can be vindicated in the court of public opionion. Any one who looks carefully at our investigation can judge for themselves. If one looks at the time line of this case, how the case developed, and how much scrutiny by the Cook County Felony Review Unit (4ASA) one can see we did nothing wrong. I stood by our investigtion then and I stand by it now. I just hope that the present Cook County States Attorney does not go political on her investigation of this incident. Look at who participated in this case, a former mayor who was the States Attorney at the time of this incident, a former States Attorney. several former Asst States Attorneys who are now judges, and Northwestern University. I want to personally thank Martin Prieb and William Crawford for thier tireless efforts to expose the injustice.

Sounds like you watched a little too much TV while growing up. There are no Richard Kimballs in jail. It is a fantasy, an entertaining story. No one gets "hooked up" so the police can clear a "heater" and I've never heard of a "conviction rate" being brought up in an election for any office.
Bad people go to jail. Some are worse than others, but they are bad so stop wringing your hands.
Is Mr. Crawford's 100 page report available on the Internet?
Anyone with a "journalism" degree from NW that took classes from Protess should have their degree declared null and void.

The reader article fits a tangent in their article that takes up many lines just to criticize Bill Crawford (I notice they don't credit him as Pullitzer-Prize winning author)?
Bill's e-mails in frustration have no basis to what Protess and his students actually said on record to a Grand jury.
There were 7 or 8 people who place Porter at the scene contradicting his alibi. The students and Protess all claim to have read the police reports, knew the names of those prosecution witnesses, but then oddly deny being familiar with the problems with Porter's apparent lack of credibility, and flatly stated they didn't interview anyone but Taylor, who also maintained that Porter was there, a point they withheld from their own affidavit.
The private investigator pulled his own coercive strong arm con tactics to get statements from Simon and Taylor and everyone applauds his own cryptic characterization of his "methods" like it's o.k that he goes old-school on these street chumps and they don't even know they're being conned... The movie deals, book offers, and insinuations of compensation ring true when both Simons and Taylor recall similar pitches from Ciolino. Threats of arrest and other scare tactics seem to be Paul Ciolino's version of the questionable methods the public decries when used in a police station, but now suddenly deemed acceptable to pit one dopey black dude against another?

Who are the nine individuals who together engineered what many now view as the worst upending of justice in the history of the Cook County Criminal Court?
They are, in no order of importance:
David Protess, the now-fired professor (so-called) at Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism who designed the immense fraud that led to Alstory Simon’s being sentenced to 37 years in state prison for the 1982 Washington Park pool homicides committed by the now freed and pardoned Anthony Porter.
Shawn Armbrust, Tom McCann, Cara Rubinsky and Syandene Rhodes-Pitts, former Protess students who played silly, childish yet sinister roles in 1998-99 in implementing the Protess criminal enterprise whose sole end was to imprison the innocent Alstory Simon and free the convicted murderer Anthony Porter.
Thomas Gainer, a former Assistant Cook County State’s Attorney—now a Cook County Associate Criminal Court Judge—who withheld and mischaracterized material facts during the Sept. 7, 1999 hearing in which Chief Criminal Court Judge Thomas Fitzgerald sentenced Alstory Simon to 37 years in prison for the fatal shootings committed by Anthony Porter.
Dick Devine, the Cook County State’s Attorney and Thomas Gainer’s boss who, according to official documents, knew of material evidence absolving Alstory Simon of the pool shootings committed by Anthony Porter yet allowed the sentencing to go forward for “political reasons.”
Paul Ciolino, a gum shoe with a checkered past and a Protess aide who, early on Dec. 9, 1998, armed and posing as a Chicago cop, barged into Alstory Simon’s Milwaukee home and using physical threats and slights of hand illegally extracted a false statement from Alstory Simon in which Alstory Smon confessed to the pool shootings committed by Anthony Porter.
Jack Rimland, Alstory Simon’s Chicago attorney who shared offices with gum shoe Paul Ciolino, and similar to Gainer, withheld, manufactured and mischaracterized material evidence during the Fitzgerald hearing in which the judge sentenced Alstory Simon to 37 years for a double homicide committed by Anthony Porter.
Chicago Tribune columnist Eric Zorn, Tribune writer Steve Mills, Chicago Reader columnist Mike Miner, Chicago Sun-Times editorial writer Tom McNamee, Channel Eleven newscaster Carol Marin, Channel Two CBS reporter Mike Flannery and legions of other so-called journalists in the Midwest and overseas even, who sucked up Protess lies hook-line-and-sinker as Protess threw those lies their way, never bothering to make that single phone call which would have unmasked the “professor’s” evil and phony scheme.

A crucial decision by State's Attorney Alvarez is forthcoming on the Porter case. If she frees Alstory Simon, who was railroaded by Protess at Northwestern, a lot of questions have to be answered. This decision will open the floodgates on the entire wrongful conviction movement. Other cases will also have to be reviewed, including Madison Hobley, Ronald Kitchen, Aaron Patterson.
They have ruined a lot of coppers careers with their bs, everyone has been framed now
