Police Shooting - 011 (UPDATE - 2 for 2)
- Officials said a person was shot in a police-involved shooting on the near west side this evening.
The shooting was reported at about 7:20 p.m. near the intersection of California Avenue and Polk Street, said Pat Camden, spokesman for the Fraternal Order of Police.
The officer was not injured and the condition of the person who was shot was not immediately available.
The circumstances leading to the shooting were not immediately known.

- As officers walked south toward 80th, they saw the group starting to disperse, Camden said. One male ran through a gangway and two officers chased after him, he said.
Two officers on Ingleside heard gunfire and saw a male, thought to be 17 or 18, standing over another male who had been shot, Camden said. The male still standing turned and pointed a semi-automatic handgun at police, who then shot him. He was dead at the scene. The other male was listed in critical condition.

"When police saw the man try to fatally shoot the victim, a police officer fired and fatally struck the gunman...
"The condition of the man shot by the offender was not immediately available."

OT:Just heard at 35th st they are reviewing officers assigned at the education and training division. The review consists of actual duties of the officers there and how long they have been assigned/detailed there. Looks like they are looking to free up more officers from administrative positions and put them back in patrol. The bandaid approach is a failure and more officers are needed. With the Chicago public schools starting next week, the bosses are terified something will happen to a kid on the way to school and or on the way home. The officers from the Academy will be assigned safe passage routes in the morning and afternoon for dismissal. When not on their safe passage route they will answer radio assignments in the district of their safe passage routes. Allegedly what watch your on will be by seniority. Watch for all the crying and phone calls on this one.

Shots Fired At Clarendon Park And On Wilson Avenue
"An absolutely ridiculous night for law-abiding Uptowners, as the gangs decided to play Wild West at two different locations. As far as we know, no one was hurt.
"Readers report hearing 20-25 gunshots fired at Clarendon Park around 10pm. Police responded immediately and in force, as seen in the photo above. The park was cleared. A helicopter circled, and as late as midnight, there were still investigations going on and a large police presence. Several readers saw shooters as they were near the park when the shooting took place. One suspect is described as "Suspect M/B in his 20's, braids, all white clothing may have changed into black shirt."
"Around the same time, there was a shooting on Wilson Avenue, across from Truman College. A reader says, "Purple minivan getaway waiting on Racine drove north after hooded shooter shot 8-10 times, ran and drove away, hitting nobody."
"Don't know what prompted tonight's violent outbursts; possibly the local youth were settling some scores before school starts and they settle down to studying for their degrees and doctorates.
"Seriously, there's a gang war that involves affiliated gangs from Lakeview to Evanston. Anything anywhere along the way could have sparked some payback. Rogers Park and Edgewater murders have been linked to an Uptown rap conflict on YouTube, of all things. Incidents like tonight's are so frustrating because they're so senseless to everyone except the participants. Luckily, no lives were lost tonight.
"Where there's gang violence, there's usually blowback, so be sure to call 911 if you see anything suspicious, any incidents that look like they're about to escalate into something more serious."

"COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — On Monday, a Lakeview woman lost her husband to a long illness.
"On Tuesday night, the woman's family wanted to get her out of the house — to lift her spirits and get some food in the "very tired and very sad" new widow.
"So, when a purse snatcher ruined the night by ripping a vintage French Givenchy purse out of her hand as she walked to her favorite restaurant, Wood, in Lakeview, she vowed to do what she could to "get the punk off the street."
"The 61-year-old widow, who asked that her name not be used, chased the thief, yelling for onlookers to call 911. When police arrived, she rode with them and eventually identified a 21-year-old man now charged in the crime.
"My brother and I resolved to get the punk off the street. We belong on the street, not them," she said. "This is our society. Do you want to be a lamb or a lion?"

The most important thing is ALWAYS back each other up and never get complacent. Always approach everyone as an assailant. Never turn your back for one second to anyone. If you feel like dogging it, fine, but when it comes to cops riding alone on any job, if you are free or close, back them up. Shit goes down in a heartbeat. My career ended after a PO was almost disarmed who was backing me up. Fought the guy for 15 minutes because assist was sent to wrong address. My injury forced me off the job. You may think I'm crazy, but if there was any way my injury could be repaired, I would run back to work. This Department, the job and the bosses had devolved. But why I did the job was looking out for every other PO. Ladies and gentleman, police only can depend on each other. Please live by that. Always be aware of those around you and your surroundings. Always watch their hands. Police are targets everywhere. Police are no longer feared or respected. I lost a few very good friends on this job. Besides deep sorrow came the fact of how vulnerable we are.

What to do when residents in an area do not like the police response?
Give them the opportunity to vote their neighborhood "police free." Very similar to voting a precinct dry in regards to alcohol sales. Vote Police Free and let them handle their own mess. They would have no one other than themselves to blame for what occurs.
Will coppers from each district post all down cars , number of one man units on 1st and 3rd watches ,
Community activists have turned people against the police .
Defend yourself and partner , refuse to go on patrol as a one man unit , wait for a back up on burglar alarms , disturbance , go home every night .

OT:Just heard at 35th st they are reviewing officers assigned at the education and training division. The review consists of actual duties of the officers there and how long they have been assigned/detailed there. Looks like they are looking to free up more officers from administrative positions and put them back in patrol. The bandaid approach is a failure and more officers are needed. With the Chicago public schools starting next week, the bosses are terified something will happen to a kid on the way to school and or on the way home. The officers from the Academy will be assigned safe passage routes in the morning and afternoon for dismissal. When not on their safe passage route they will answer radio assignments in the district of their safe passage routes. Allegedly what watch your on will be by seniority. Watch for all the crying and phone calls on this one.
