I only have 27 years and 4 months on the job. Maybe someday I will have enough time on to bid into 051.

So you double that amount get your fingers ready on speed dial! Talked to my captain he said you need a deputy or above for that move! Got clout? I have 2 years left was going to bid but was told its run like a district no perks and they get a little overtime but once new guys come in overtime ends! Be careful what you ask for I guess applies!

ok... just to be funny, how many officers have retired from 019/023, 016 and 017 since the combination great re-alignment/consolidation and police resource screw job of the tax payers in those districts?

If u don't bid u can't bitch no matter the time if everyone feels it's a waste to bid because "I won't make it anyway" sometimes coppers get in with much less time than estimated. I have 28 years on for example but not bidding retiring next year the devil I know is better than the 1 you don't know!
The year I retired from 019/023 was 2012. 35 or so left that year just in retirements.
ALL of 019's lieutenants (8) were moved right at the merger. Approx. 30 sergeants from the combined district were moved/transferred within months of the merger.
Since the grand merger, at least 100 have left due to retirements, reassignments and bid out.
I don't know how many bid in to help balance it out but nowhere near what it was before the merger.
I was at a community meeting at Lakeview HS in 2011 and heard McBoozer stand up there with both 019/023 commanders and all affected alderman and PROMISE that the combined district would not lose any officers. You could hear the police in the room muttering "bullshit" and I am sure McBourbon heard it too.
Since then they redrew the beats and made larger beats on the west end of 019. 1912 and 1911 are now larger than they were. I live on 1911 and never see the 2nd watch cop unless I call him on his cell to ask for something. They get sent east a lot.

016 is good especially if you live out here. We can use some coppers who have worked in other districts and want to use their efforts on the home front. Got a decent commander and XO, the lt's. And sgts. Are decent but you got a few knuckleheads. Over all you are working your district of residence if that's not an incentive to do something I don't know what is. Remember if you bid in and don't like it you can always bid out.....good luck...

You will never again see much Police presence in 019 north of Irving and west of Clark on 2nd watch because the entire 10 Sector gets sucked into Uptown on a REGULAR basis.
Part of the problem is all the nut houses getting away with short staffing then calling 911 for a Police assist because one of the loons doesn't want to take his meds/play nice/eat his lime jello with the pineapple chunks...
These places, by LAW are supposed to have people on staff trained to restrain a loon.
They want the Police to do it... Then when the Police end up lumping a loon, they're falling over each other to get a c/r.
Supervisors are "too busy" to address this...
Sending officers 10-99 with an assist from God knows where in the district is a recipe for an officer getting hurt or worse.
Not to mention the brow beating the officers get.
Uptown bullshit spilling off the board and most if not every car in the 10 sector is legitimately down with jobs pending in their stack.

Almost 500 cops promised by Rahm and McCarthy for combined 019/023...

Only fools believe CPD has a total sworn compliment of 12k or 13k or whatever number McCarthy blows from his ass.
Every source of what the manpower count is has been fucked with/manipulated but early chatter was Rahm reducing CPD to between 7k and 8k total.
Crime is always down when you reduce Police head count...
In the past, one or two newer people managed to get into 017. Lately, they have been 12 years plus. It's getting close to 15 years to get 3rd Watch. It's getting close to 20 for days. Those poor bastards on midnights might never get off.
Can't speak for Midway, but if you want Ohare, be careful what you wish for. You will probably get 3rd watch which means you will have to deal with, "the voice of NATO". Mini Georgas expects you to be on time, work 8 for 8, get some activity and remain on your post. WTF! Does he think this is a real job? What's next? Ensure you have a beat tag on your car as you Circe the airport? The nerve!!!!
Actually none of the above wouldn't be an issue he wasn't such a litte tool.

Why do we need 2 police departments at the airports? Why is it department of aviation police go through CPD academy have to qualify every year can carry weapons off duty but not on, have arrest powers but are never used? Isn't that 1 of the big reasons jimmy Maurer was removed as top cop there? He questioned why and goodbye jimmy! Now the aviation commissioner is being moved out wonder why?

019 is a MESS! And if you get sent to midnights you will have two P.O's on the desk crew the "grouch" and "little tuff" as your boss. Don't even try to approach them they will snap at you due to their demanding high stress job position and punish you if you really step out of line. I was banished for life to the late start for stepping out of line. The Lt.'s are good, but they let them be boss. Glad I left many moons ago. Good luck to bidders.

Hey. There is only ONE Police Department at the airports. The other is merely a security team opening and closing gates and harassing employees. The best is when they watch CPD having to wrestle with someone and do nothing. On one occasion CPD was fighting with an irate drunken prick and other passengers helped subdue as Aviation stood there and did nothing. Aviation Security is the more appropriate name but for some reason they think they matter.

Guy, that knows a guy who rang a doorbell for somebody, can u get me a job. No problem, what job do u want.Not a legit job at all.

Incorrect pal.
They had to attend the police academy and are State Certified police officers. They also have to pass a yearly handgun qualification that is required for all police officers in the State. They are police except for the fact they are listed as Aviation Security officers with the city budget. Other than that they are Police. They have to be State Certified as Police Officers to hold the position. Just because the title with the budget states Aviation Security, they have to be trained and certified as police.
Now as to their abilities after training I will not comment.
If one were to make it to airport with the help of a little clout would you find out pryor to the transfer order posting next week friday or sat or would you find out only once the order actually posts with all the names on it?? Enquiring minds want to know : )
