Ballot Problems

Quite a few popping up in the comment sections. We aren't picking on the FOP per se here, but this rush to pass a Contract only magnifies what would usually be minor errors:
  • Sergeants are getting ballots - so are retirees?
It would seem that no one ran an actual active duty roster in the days leading up to the ballots being printed. The last sergeant class was months ago and there are guys retiring every day. You think it would be incumbent upon the FOP to have the latest list of active duty personnel to mail out ballots properly - especially for such a contentious vote. Guess not.
  • "Propaganda" included with the ballot?
We got this complaint:
  • ...the letter included in the ballot package. It seems as though our representatives at FOP are in a "rush" to get this done and over with. Furthermore, the writer does not hide their support for this contract and even attempts to steer the members to vote yes. That is inappropriate and points should be made stating the positives and the negatives for the members to understand so that we may be able to make a informed decision.
There's a time and a place for this - the newsletter, the website, the meetings, the district/unit visits. In the ballot mailing though? No.
  • The "propaganda" has a glaring error?
Everything we've seen up until now has 11% as the offered monetary raise. Commentators are saying that it's listed as 14% in the ballot? And finally:
  • How come the ballots are in the mail and we are supposed to vote and the last word the FOP President said about Tier 1 and Tier 2 hospitals is "We will get the information regarding which hospital is on which list to the membership as soon as we (FOP) get it?" How do they recommend a contract for vote and neither they nor we have the complete list of Tier 1 and 2 hospitals?
You see, you have to vote FOR the contract to see what's IN the contract. They must have learned that one from Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and Obama. It's the new normal you know - trust them, they know what's best for you.

My bad don't worry about it!

If any of you have done a closing on a house and this many errors just happened would you sign the contract?

Of course the above ground pool is included but you have no hose to fill up the pool.

We in for a giant slap in the face if this passes.

Duty availability will be gone in the future.

The letter enclosed with the ballot is straight up out of line. I spoke to a Board member who does not hold the same opinion of what is included in that letter. In fact, he explained what he could, both good and bad. Also, he said the "Board vote" was not recorded and he was only an informal poll. -Don't want to front you out Brother, but, you know who you are. Thanks for the chat.

How about sending out ballots to retirees WHO LIVE OUT OF STATE?

I NEVER gave my address to the FOP yet somehow they've gotten the new address without missing a beat.

That comes courtesy of the Pension board. They hand over your address change immediately to the FOP.

So, since the FOP HAS gotten my change of address OUTSIDE the state of Illinois, exactly HOW can they not know that I'm no longer an active member? They changed my address to an out of state address for christ's sake!

Ballot irregularities up the ass, violation of by laws to accomplish their goal of a yes vote, this needs to be shut down NOW.

NEW ballots need to be sent to active MEMBERS only and ballot counting oversight is now required to prevent fraud from your FOP.

First step is state lodge.

Second step if they ignore this is National lodge.

Final step after that is the media.

If THEY ignore it then it starts going out to media outlets that won't ignore it who aren't in bed with Emanuel the scumbag.

Social media is the last resort.

Angelo reeks of scumbagery and this kind of bullshit should let you trigger a new election and kick his double-crossing ass OUT of the union.

This guy is a pathetic liar who fucked you guys over and will likely fuck retirees over as well as soon as he has the chance.

Angelo needs to GO and take his cabal of sycophant assholes with him. They're ALL accomplices to his sellout of their membership.

As a cop i say...

I say it's a valid point. If the FOP wants to insert a letter clearly supporting the contract, they can also state why. The letter itself is inappropriate. Either just encourage the members to vote or don't insert a letter at all.

9/24/2014 01:54:00 AM

Sorry scc i disagree with you on this one. Our leaders are suppose to inform us. I didn't see anything in the booklet about different tiers of hospitals. And as for that letter? Fop should not have expressed their approval or disapproval. And yes if they had to do it they could've at least let us know why or why not they are pushing for it. Lastly, i work for the city. I know the city doesn't move this fast.

The name is on the outside ballot probably to be checked off against a master list of po's from the FOP members. Once opened there is a sealed ballot. If you don't have any identification on the outside envelope someone could just have 10,000 blank envelopes and mail them in with pre marked ballots.

I made Sgt this year. I did get a ballot in the mail. I did vote. The way I look at it is simple. I was a member of the FOP (I still am for the rest of this calender year) for a good chunk of this contract. The retro certainly applies to me. I deeply care about the PO's, I was one for over 17 years. I especially care about the future officers who won't get Duty Availability. What happens with this contract does effect all other non exempt ranks.

I'm sure many will say you are no longer a PO or a rank represented by FOP, don't vote and enjoy your raise. I understand that completely. To each his or her own.

Read Obamacare regarding tier I and tier II hospitals.. this is a set up for moving us into the Obamacare health system... The city has stated that it would be cheaper to pay the fine to the government for not providing health care to it's employees than to provide insurance to us. The city would gladly pay
$6 - 8 Million in penalties than $20 million for insurance and IOD/Medical... Watch out folks... the writing is on the wall!!! DO NOT VOTE FOR THIS CONTRACT!!! There is NO REASON a young copper coming on this job should not get every benefit afforded to any other copper...this is a "divide and conquer" plan and we are all one..no difference between a kid with one year on the job or 10 years on the job as far as union benefits are concerned. Somebodys were promised some things by somebody to see that a yes vote passes...

If ineligible voters were mailed ballots at this point in the game, you can also be pretty certain that the tallying of those ballots WILL be skewed in favor of a yes vote...

That is not true, you pay $3000.00 of deductable and you still are responsible for 10 percent of the total amount due. So, when you need to go to a tier 2 hospital you are on the hook for 25 percent of the total bill. So you will pay much more then $3000.00 per year.

I hate that I couldn't make the South meeting today regarding the contract because I have concerns. I'm voting "No" because I don't agree with the medical insurance portion. I'm also not confident that my vote will be counted because in the 2nd election for FOP president, I filled it out and immediately mailed it off and I promise you my ballot came back to my house about 4 weeks ago with a stamp on it that said "return to sender..no such address". I'm leary about this voting process.

At any rate, the insurance should be left alone. This contract basically says "fuck you...you're taking the bulk if you want to go to a Tier 2 hospital". We need as much help on the insurance that we can get. That 25% that we're responsible for will add up. I've had to see specialists and doctors before...lets say at Northwestern. If they push this shit through we'll get hit hard having to pay co-pays and 25%...our portion of the insurance. You don't chip away at medical insurance. That's ridiculous!!

Sorry I cannot trust them. Hire a law firm, accounting firm, etc... For a fraction of the cost of what we are paying our FOP reps, we could have the professionals. And those lawyers and accountants will have friends in city hall, possibly even be friends with 9.5. By taking care of 9.5's friends, he may take care of us. In the end, if indeed it is a same result, at least we would've saved whole lot of money. look at the guy across the room during roll call. Do you trust him/ her to decided on your future? Scary!

I think the sergeants should make the vote for them. We know how to take a stand.

•How come the ballots are in the mail and we are supposed to vote and the last word the FOP President said about Tier 1 and Tier 2 hospitals is "We will get the information regarding which hospital is on which list to the membership as soon as we (FOP) get it?" How do they recommend a contract for vote and neither they nor we have the complete list of Tier 1 and 2 hospitals?

Maybe because this does not take effect until 2017.
