Almost Got Away...

  • A Northwest Side man joined runners for a portion of the Chicago Marathon on Sunday morning while fleeing police, according to authorities.

The man drew the attention of Chicago police officers after he began bumping into marathon spectators along a stretch of River North, according to police accounts. When the man saw officers, he bolted—bumping into more spectators and even some marathoners around the 200 block of West Superior Street—along Mile 12 of the marathon route, authorities say.

Officers chased the man and tackled him to the ground, according to Chicago police. While arresting the man, police say, officers discovered he was carrying illegal drugs.
Moron - go break the law where there are tens of thousands of runners, hundreds of thousands of spectators and hundreds of coppers every few yards, all on heightened alert looking for Bostonian-type malfeasance. Real brainiac there.

Question...I live on east end of 014. I call the police for parking violation all the time, we have 24 hr Residential Parking Permits. Is 014 full of dogs, especially on Day, cause they never come out and write tickets? And I have a scanner and listen to dispatch. Nothing is going on and still they never come out. I realize it's not the crime of century, but it would be nice to see them come out.

Off topic......IPRA is looking into dozens of dispersals done in 011 on third watch by officers. Supposedly those that have been dispersed have gotten upwards of 25 cr#'s already and have retained the same lawyer. Seems Sgt. T.B. has ordered officers to give these dispersals, but guess what..... No contact cards were done. And offenders who returned to the scene were arrested ,guess what.....there was no documentation of them being dispersed. So now come the lawsuits for being arrested for just standing on the corner. Steer clear of Sgt.T.B. because you will be the one going down, not the white shirt.

Like that loaded school bus they just put a stop on somewhere in U.S. -- concerned ADULTS on board making calls about impaired (possibly illegal alien) driver weaving all over the highway on "four or five prescribed medications."

"A Northwest Side man joined runners for a portion of the Chicago Marathon on Sunday morning while fleeing police"

Hard to pick out, what with him probably in a hoodie and stumblin in saggin long pants and crappy worn-out work boots from a Sally Ann voucher like everyone else was wearing, right?

Hope that was good for a twelve-foot-long sliding sidewalk inspection - nose down so you didn't miss details of pebbles, bird crap, chewing gum, broken glass, etc. with 400 pounds worth jumping on your back.

It's all good. There was bound to be ONE.

If you're locking people up for gang and narcotics loitering without doing the original contract card, you must be an exempt member in the making. What's wrong with people? SMH

On a more serious note…thanks to the creative CPD guys on Sunday morning. I had procedures scheduled at the University of Chicago Medical Center and could not get through the lines to get to the Metra station to catch a train to Hyde Park. Their solution? Run with the runners until there was a break so I could cross to the other side. So I wound up running a block in the marathon -- and it worked! Thanks, guys.

In all fairness to those that work in 014, I was in that area yesterday and the only squads I saw were out writing street cleaning tickets.

Now I don't know what east side of 014 beat you reside in, but you might have better luck if you call 744-PARK for a Finance parking enforcement aide

Keep in mind that squad car coppers have to respond to dispatched radio calls, and sometimes there is a back log.

My director is of the opinion that cops have better things to do than write Parker's; especially when Finance staff are working.

Several issues with this post. First, contact cards should always be done regarding a dispersal, especially if there is to be a follow up arrest. If you will not be doing the contact card until later, make sure to run the names over the air or at least on the pdt (documents time, date, and the individual). Documenting that he was there for the original dispersal is the only thing that justifies a follow up arrest. No contact card number to include in the arrest report regarding the dispersal, no arrest. Without that, you are in essence, just locking him up for standing on the corner. It is a weak local ordinance to begin with. If you don't do everything you are supposed to do while enforcing it you leave yourself open to troubles down the line. Second, I doubt any supervisor is telling coppers NOT to do contact cards on them (that is activity). But an important thing to remember is that just because someone is a supervisor, it doesn’t mean that they know everything and are always right. If you are instructed by a supervisor to arrest an individual for loitering, request the contact card number. If they insist (order) you to make the arrest anyway, document it.
“In summary, R/O was ordered by Sgt. T.B. to arrest Mr. I.B. Shithead for violating a gang/narcotics dispersal order given at hot spot #6666666 under event #999999 in which after being given the lawful dispersal by Bt.1120... bla bla bla bla bla......... R/O has no knowledge of the events prior to or regarding the original dispersal and will not appear in court.”

Then put the Sgt. In box 1. He wont like it and chances are he wont ask you to do it again, but that documents that you are arresting him based on somebody elses observations (original dispersal, and follow up event leading to the arrest). You are protecting yourself from litigation by doing this, don’t let them intimidate you into changing things or removing them from the overall liability. Because don’t think for a minute that once you are sued, your supervisor who skirted the lawsuit because he wasn’t on the arrest report will show up in court and say that he ordered you to make the arrest and take your place as the defendant.. Above all else, protect yourselves and your partners. This means through paperwork as well. We get lazy sometimes but taking the extra time to do what is ultimately required anyway, goes a long way to doing that.

Okay hair gel, calm down.

Every district has cops that are assigned to do nothing but write tickets. 024 has them, 018 has them, 019 and 020 have them and so does 014. Every single vehicle that got nailed for the Tuesday street cleaning that was posted right behind the darn District building was hand written and by a 014 PO. Beats 1414, 1431 & 1432 get a lot of squad cars on street cleaning days. So much so that the new Deputy in charge over at revenue is looking into having the traffic cars & 60k a year Parking Enforcement cops in all districts get computers and envelops to wire tickets with and stop giving you guys actual Parker books.

Either way you are a useless SOB and an embarrassment.

They started that "racial bumping and jostling" in the Loop after 1965. Ugly, and real obvious for exactly what it is.

Oh -- another high-end Mag Mile store got smash-and-cleaned-out.

Just put a chair inside the doors, and pay some retired guy to babysit with a shotgun across his lap and a good book.

"Not compatible with our public image." So keep paying out a lot more for new doors and windows and inventory...
