Emanuel Mugging and the Media
We took an inordinate number of comments down yesterday. There was a disturbing amount of glee in the mugging of Rahm's kid. There was also truckloads of abuse heaped on the district personnel that was out of line (don't mistake what appears in the Comment Section as ours - people making that leap of stupidity will be deleted).
We'll confess to leading the pack when someone wanders into a no-go zone with a pocket full of cash, a desire to score intoxicating compounds and gets a lot more than they bargained for. Or the altar boy turning his life around and managing to play backstop to half-a-dozen rounds in the early hours of the morning when he should have been home working on that cure for cancer. But we don't visit the sins of the father upon the son unless the son has proven himself an asshole....like the Shortshanks family.
So now we get to see if the media can actually do an investigation, because the story is falling apart as we speak. We have it from numerous sources that there are holes in the story that you could drive a truck through. No video exists (that we've heard of) despite cameras at both ends of the block, at nearby businesses and the CTA El station. Someone else claims the phone was wiped before the detectives could start tracking it. Others have said the victim was uncooperative when confronted with inconsistencies.

Rahm can't possibly admit that he lied to those residents and police manpower is down double digits.

Manpower shortages? What are you talking about? I live in 16 and see tons of cops everyday. I see my neighbors everyday. I see them everyday when we pick are kids up from school. I see them frequently socially as we and our kids are friends. I see their cars every day when I drive past the commanders house or the K9 guys house on my way to the firehouse or to pick up the kids. I see them everyday on the street when they are doing funeral escorts.

The criminals are also going to districts where there are fewer and fewer police officers available to respond to calls. The shortage of police in various districts has created new opportunities for the thugs.

I left my phone somewhere last night and, before I got it back, I debated doing it.
If you use the Find My iPhone app, they give you the option to locate the phone, lock the phone, or wipe everything off the phone. Pretty drastic move, to wipe the phone entirely.

I must inform you that, with few exceptions, it is not hard to get a security clearance, even if you admit to past drug use.
Twenty-two years of progressive politics made a difference.
Security clearances post-Clinton were much easier to obtain. Not so much so under earlier administrations.
But for his election, it is unlikely that the current president would have had an easy time obtaining a security clearance.
Say it ain't so...the kid lied about the circumstances of what happened and now refuses to answer questions? Wonder where he learned that?
