Horseshit!

  • Chicago police officers with the Mounted Unit have been warned by the department to stop dumping fresh horse manure in Jackson Park on the South Side.

On any given day, Mounted Unit officers can be seen stopping in Jackson Park, and shoveling horse manure from their trailers onto Park District property along the golf course – on the street, curb, grass, and around trees.

“The amount of the manure was absolutely astounding,” said Lyletta Robinson, a woman who frequents the park.

Officers muck out their trailers while on their way to the stables at the nearby South Shore Cultural Center.
C'mon guys and gals. You have what is arguably the best gig on the Department. It's about the most legit test there is, the training is extensive, and everyone (we mean everyone) loves a cop on a horse. We've been to South Shore. They have big dumpsters there and a section by the golf course that you can dump the shit in to compost before fertilizing the lawn. You could probably pay a neighborhood waif to turn the pile daily if needed.

Leave it to some dumb yuppie to complain about free organic fertilizer. You really could sell the stuff, come on down and bring your own shovel.

Just a side note.
Could someone in authority please contact the Chicago Park District. One year they fertilized the area all along the route just before the St. Jude March. Bad timing.

O.T. Moving Out

In June I am saying goodbye to my career with cpd and goodbye to the city of Chicago. I am moving to a suburb outside of Florida. I have five years on the job. If you have less than then 10 years on this job, I would urge you to move out of here. This city is dying. The property taxes, water fee, state income taxes, etc. are all going to go up. These politicians will never, ever, ever downsize government. So the only alternative is for them to keep raising taxes. Do they give a shit that they are driving out the tax payers? Nope. They don't care one single iota. Not until we are broke like Detroit. Then they will just say the same old liberal mantra "we didn't tax enough". Second, with all of the happenings in the last year, I believe being a police officer in this country is done.

Speaking of Horseshit!!!
Law enforcement agencies struggling to fill their ranks or connect with their increasingly diverse populations are turning to immigrants to fill the gap.

Most agencies in the country require officers or deputies to be U.S. citizens, but some are allowing immigrants who are legally in the country to wear the badge. From Hawaii to Vermont, agencies are allowing green-card holders and legal immigrants with work permits to join their ranks.

At a time when 25,000 non-U.S. citizens are serving in the U.S. military, some feel it's time for more police and sheriff departments to do the same. That's why the Nashville Police Department is joining other departments to push the state legislature to change a law that bars non-citizens from becoming law enforcement officers.

Department spokesman Don Aaron said they want immigrants who have been honorably discharged from the military to be eligible for service.

"Persons who have given of themselves in the service to this country potentially have much to offer Tennesseans," he said. "We feel that ... would benefit both the country and this city."

Current rules vary across departments.

Some, like the Chicago and Hawaii police departments, allow any immigrant with a work authorization from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services to become an officer. That means people in the country on temporary visas or are applying for green cards can join.

CPD needs more locals and less outsiders. Most of you new officers haven't spent any time in Chicago until you became "Chicago's Finest" and probably think that Cabrini Green is a Crayola Crayon color. Are you expecting HOME DEIVERY?
Go get it, get some for your friends and neighbors.

While we are at it, how do places like The Lincoln Park Zoo and the carriage rides dispose of their manure? Maybe this matter is just another case of police hate.

Reminds me of this skinflint New England farmer who had t go away for a season and had to board his horses. He went to the first neighbor and asked him much to board the horses.

He said, $50 a month each plus the manure.

The old skinflint said that was two expensive and moved onto the next neighbor. The first neighbor called the second neighbor and warned him that he was coming.

The second neighbor said it would only cost $10 a month per horse.

What about the manure? the old man asked.

For $10 a month there ain't gonna be no manure.

This part is not true. People on temporary visas don't always get work permits, and if they do, they have many restrictions (usually allows to work part time or restricted to certain fields/businesses with time limit). Second, anyone can apply for a green card - that doesn't mean you'll get. So I think that potential recruits born and raised in the U.S.A. got nothing to worry about. On the other hand, they tend to have better work ethics that those that take everything for granted.

To O.T. Moving Out,

A "suburb outside of Florida" is pretty vague. If you have less than 5 years on you're probably one of those out-of-state, or worse yet, Illinois suburbanites who shouldn't have been on the job in the first place. CPD needs more locals and less outsiders. Most of you new officers haven't spent any time in Chicago until you became "Chicago's Finest" and probably think that Cabrini Green is a Crayola Crayon color. If you're considering a non LEO job in a Florida suburb as your future why the hell did you consider being a big city police officer just 5 years ago??? Figure it out junior.

Hey a&&hole old timer. I'm a suburbanite and have been on for 8 years. The best part of America is people don't have to listen to dipshits like you.

3/22/2015 09:13:00 PM

Hey suburbanite, you are just upset, because you will never be a true native chicagoian. This older timer is right -- most of suburbanites want to be chicagoians so bad they often tell people they are from Chicago when they don't live in the city. Then these Chicago want to be individuals become Chicago Cops and think theu know it all, and get bent out of shape, when they are called out on not knowing shit about the city, or, its residents. I agree, we do need more native chicagoians applying for the job. We need less, whiney know it all, suburbanites, pretending to be city folk or people.

New City Recycling Unit - CPD Horse Manure Fertilizer Unit. (No clout needed to get into this unit)

Bag it and tag it - don't smell it, but sell it.

Gold Braid Brand Fertilizer straight from CPD Horses.

Could sell it in all the major stores on North Michigan as well as the airports - Official Chicago Brand Horse Manure.

Now who wouldn't buy a bag or box to take home?

Talk about making money off of shit. It would be the equivalent of selling Girl Scout Cookies to pay for pension shortfalls.

Could sell it in several varieties:

Chunky Rahm (Soon to be renamed Chunky Chuy)
Smooth McCarthy
and Father Phleger's Finest

Chicago - Home of the Organic Fertilizer inspired by its
political climate. Talk about promoting Green Industries.

With a little leprechaun on it saying, "Spread through the finest TIF Districts to make me bank account green like an Irish Clover."

Time to buy your boxes of CPD Horse Manure.

I am a citizen of a foreign country. Am I eligible to become a Chicago police officer?

Yes, as long as you have an Employment Authorization Document (EAD) from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. Proof, such as an Alien Registration Card (Green Card) will be required if you are called for further processing.

All of that manure is from mucking out the stalls and is mixed with the wood chip bedding and is not really usable for fertilizer.

Your the same guy posted before! What is your skill set that you can leave? married? got kids? family here? Remember the grass is not always greener! Florida is nice but its a very low wage right to work state, Something to think about!

This city yes it has problems but not many jobs pay the kind of money we are making, the benefits we have for now are good, the days off unmatchable, personal days, baby furlough days, furloughs 13 paid holidays now again tell me about Florida1

First of all, thank you for your concerns. My wife is a registered nurse. I don't have a good skill set. So guess what? I am going to obtain one. In July 2015 I am enrolling in a licensed practical nursing program. In nine months I become a lpn and make about $16 per hour. Once I am lpn, I can obtain my bachelor's in nursing at an online school. Then both myself and my wife will be registered nurse's. Health care jobs are abundant here. We have two kids. My family is scattered all over the U.S. My parents are moving to Clermont, FL once they sell their business and house. I know that Florida is a low wage state. My wife will be making 8% less. My salary as a lpn would be 10% less. As a r.n. it would be 8% less. But that is ok. Home prices are much lower, no state income tax, property taxes are much lower and an excellent school district make up for it. Summer sucks and is hot but the other eight months are good. There are trade offs and we have considered them all.

You are 100% right. This job still offers good pay, good job security, excellent time off, overtime via cta or vri and court o.t. Those are all great benefits. But in the long run I just want a better quality of life for myself and my family. Personally, this city is going downhill and the main factor was that home prices zoomed back up again and we could cash out and so we did.

I believe that fresh manure burns grass, plants, etc. Best to take it to the appointed spot, there it can break down to usable compost. The shovel work remains the same, why not do it in the right place. No big thing.

If you speak Spanish you can apply to the Metro-Dada Police Department. Patrol cars have shotguns or carbines. Pension is good but it is like one big 10th District. Hispanics are the new Irish there. But you'd have to be nuts to work for another police department these days.

Fire Department much better. With paramedic certification it is easier to get on the Fire Department. (You supply the paramedic training)

After a while of working the ambulance you can transfer to a fire truck/engine.

Or, in health care, an APN, Advanced Practice Nurse makes better money, can write prescriptions and have their own patients under the auspices of a doctor.

Best of luck.

I work at O'Hare and people say all the time "im from Chicago" I ask what part they reply "Bolingbrook,Oaklawn,Naperville,Etc." I tell them its not "Chicago", they want to act like they are big bad Chicagoan but in reality wanna bees, some of the young suburban cops get a "taste of Chicago" when they work in the "bad areas" and get nervous, don't not how deal with "urban youts"!

Lots of butt hurt guys here about the kid going to FL. He's smart. Nobody in their right mind wants to raise a family in this cess pool anymore. It's going downhill and the city is circling the toilet. Gotta shell out a ton of money to send your kids to private schools because you can't send them public here. No way. Lots of glory hounds. It's cool saying you're a Chicago cop, but for many reasons, it's not the same job. At some point your family and quality of life override the glory of saying you're a Chicago cop. For the price you pay for your overinflated bungalow in decaying Wildwood, are you aware of what you can get elsewhere for the same price? With well over a decade on, I would welcome s change. Even if it meant I would have to work later into my life. There's something to be said about quality of life, and it SUCKS in Chicago.

My grandfather went out and picked up after the milkman's horse for his garden.

Some places that have zoos sell Zoo Poo, so, seriously, why don't these people appreciate what they can get for free? Once composted it IS fabulous for tomatoes and other plants.

Why doesn't Chicago get with the program and sell it, give it to the Park District, or at least encourage gardeners to come get it?

You're one of those people who think mounted guys just show up and look pretty. There's a lot of training and education that goes along with that assignment. You don't just toss that kind of investment after two years.

3/22/2015 05:48:00 PM<<<

A lot of training and education, it's not like the old days where every Tom, Dick and Harry on this job knew how to ride horse.

Not to mention about $2-3 thousand in special uniforms, jackets, Stetsons, jodhpurs and boots.

The best of police and horses....

I remember seeing the RCMP Musical Ride as a kid here in Chicago. Wish they would come back, wonderful show, check it out...
