No Guns in Schools
Not just for students any more - none at all in Baltimore, even the police:
- No guns for officers inside Baltimore City Schools.
The proposed legislation caused a deep divide between supporters and opponents of the legislation.
A delegation of city leaders unanimously decided to table the legislation in the State House of Delegates on Friday.
This means that city school police will remain the only officers in the state forbidden to have guns in schools while classes are in session.
As we understand it, this department is like the Chicago Department of Aviation Police - they go through training, they are state certified, then they can't carry guns in the one place that they just might need them - the airport. It's not like there's ever been a terrorist incident at an airport. And schools? Schools are the safest place in the world for hundreds of unarmed children and their teachers.
Now instead of allowing the officers to carry their sidearms to protect our most valuable assets (according to the giant thinkers of the age), Baltimore is considering disbanding the whole department.

Maryland has some of the most moronic rabid anti-gun laws in the nation. Their politicians tend to be ultra progressive and sometimes seem simple minded. This is not a suprise.
This is the conversation you get with liberals. Don't address why they need armed police in the school, just keep the guns away from the angels so they can learn. Oh, you say they're not learning? Well now, let's devote more resources to the children, hell $15,000 per year to babysit kids that don't want to learn is a bargain.
If these shits don't want to behave, kick them the hell out of regular school and send them to a special school for assholes and then when they're 17, kick them out and don't give them public aid. Hunger will cause them to learn some marketable job skills. Oh, you say they'll turn to crime? Fool, they already have.

This is a symptom of growing fear of people wielding police power.
My (rare) personal experience with local police has been uniformly positive, but we're all bathed in endless examples of excessive violence (e.g., SWAT raids over misdemeanors, shooting dogs for no reason) that seem to suggest that cops are now trained to react to even the slightest verbal opposition or body-language "disrespect" as a provocation in need of instant and overwhelming elimination.
Now we have youtube tutorials on how to act when stopped in a car to avoid getting shot by a jumpy (or over-aggressive) cop, right next to tutorials on how to avoid getting mauled by a bear or bitten by an aggressive dog.
No one wants to absorb a mag-dump from a jumpy cop for wielding a cell phone.
Even Caucasian, white-collar, well-educated people are increasingly nervous around cops. How did we get here and how do we get out of this dilemma?
Baltimore's solution, of course, is to let civilians who are willing to be vetted and trained carry their own personal guns CCW. Cops wade into conflict, while for an armed civilian, conflict is truly a last resort because even a hint of ambiguity will land the civilian in jail.
Of course, this is the last thing the leftists governing Baltimore will consider.

If there is a shooting in the school(s) and there are students trapped; then reading the law to the letter, you would be unable to carry. I know emergencies trump some bullshit gun law, but its fun to throw their nonsense back in their faces. Like, sorry I can't go in to get the bad guy(s), the law demands l can't carry weapons while students are present. More bullshit by pussy politicians.

You've got to wonder what Area 4 Youth Officer IRMA RUIZ would think of the unarmed school situation in Baltimore. This heroine's star hangs on the wall at 3510 S. Michigan Ave.
As you may recall, Irma and her partner Greg Jaglowski were assigned to Montefiore School (for "troubled" youth), 1310 S. Ashland Ave. on the morning of September 22, 1988.
After just murdering three others in a rampage, Clemmie Henderson, entered the school where he encountered and fired on the two CPD officers defending the children. Irma was murdered and Jaglowski was seriously wounded. However, in an exchange of gunfire, Officer Jaglowski shot and killed the deranged madman Henderson.
Rest in Peace, Irma.

The Baltimore school officers already carry firearms but only outside school grounds, they have to be locked away once they enter the school. But if you're a regular police officer going inside the school you can carry. It doesn't make any sense.
True DOA police are trained in the CPD academy, have to qualify with weapons like CPD does, they are allowed to carry a weapon and have a weapon just not at work! Who runs this asylum? Doa drives marked police vehicles complete with all lights and sirens can stop cars on airport perimeter on the streets but no weapon allowed to be carried! You just can't make this insanity up!!

You ask how we got here and how do we get out of this dilemma.
We got here thanks to politicians and media who demonize and over-dramatize any and every police-involved incident.
Politicians use the police to draw votes, whether it's complaining about the big, mean police or villianizing their pensions.
The media no longer reports actual, factual news, but instead hypes and twists and misleads, all in the name of ever-higher ratings. It's all about the ratings and not about the truth, or fairness, and the police are easy targets, in their uniforms and inability to defend themselves using large media outlets.
Everybody from CNN and their biased, make it up as you go along, knee-jerk, Ferguson reportage, making up fuzzy nicknames for criminals (gentle giant), to Hollywood movies, to 'infotainment' shows like ET and Extra.
An episode of Scandal last week is a perfect example. Shonda Rimes did her version of Ferguson. A perfect black teen, a perfect black father of that teen, a hard-nosed white police boss defending his clench-jawed white cop after the white cop shoots the black teen. And, after the perfect, finishing school graduate black heroine investigates, oh, shocker, it turns out the white cop shot an unarmed teen and then conspired to plant a weapon on him. And then, the perfect black woman walked that dad into the President of the United States' office and dad got a heartfelt hug from POTUS.
See, see, see! said my liberal friends. THAT's what happened; they FRAMED that gentle giant in Ferguson!) I thought it was probably pointless to remind them their tv show potus had murdered a supreme court justice, their perfect heroine was doing the president with the first lady's permission and her father runs an illegal clandestine unit that kills more Americans than all the cops in the country do in a decade.
Because THAT doesn't matter; what matters is the POLICE ARE EVIL. Just ask the talking heads, the entertainers turned talk show hosts, the news readers, the HBO producers, the politicians and the people who rock back in their recliners all evening with the remote in their hands.
And how do we 'fix' this? Unless honor and integrity and honesty make a huge comeback in this nation, I don't think we can.

Those posts about joining the NRA are spot on. I am a member and also donate money on a frequent basis. They are fighting very hard for our rights. Did you know that Bill Gates has joined forces with Michael Bloomberg to back anti gun candidates running for various political positions around the country. They are starting to spend more money then the NRA. These two men go everywhere with armed security, yet they want to strip law abiding citizens of their right to bear arms. This is the future of our once great country.
The ban should not really present any problems. The schools are no gun zones so terrorists won't bring them anyway. If they do, however, just write them a detention and send them to the deans' off. See, problem solved!
After reading that article, I say "Fuck 'em!" Let the school board deal with those kids. When I was growing up, if you fought in school, you got kicked out and/or arrested. That's the problem with our society now...we condone bad behavior!

I sure remember that day, I heard the radio exchange on the Citywide. I was in A3 at the time, too far to do any good. Irma got shot first off, Jaglowski had a couple of exchanges with the killer. He reloaded and put the guy down with his last bullet.

SWAT doing warrants on a misdemeanor is ok. A judge signed the warrant. SWAT doesn't have controll over the judges actions. A viloent offender isn't less like to be violent based on the crime commited.
This is true in all jusidictions.
As for shooting dogs. We don't have to wait to be attacked in order to defend ourselves. Did you ever think the subject of the warrant might be lying? Of course not.
Then again, every time I've found dope on a search warrant every resident has denied knowledge or ownership of said dope. You do the math.

It is a miracle that no DOA police here in Chicago have been shot, I know many of these guys are retired CPD and they probably carry a gun just not visable, but you have to be very hard up for a job wearing a uniform that says Police, in a marked vehicle that says Police and not be able to carry a gun, this makes no sense and thanks to King Daley he put a stop to Maurer wanting to arm the guys.
Do they have a Baltimore police officer in school? Cps has security guards and cpd officers.

Maurer tried his best, but got canned for asking the wrong questions and being honest.
They replaced the Chief of Police with a FIREMAN!! Even gave him more money than Maurer.
Yes its true there are some retired CPD officers out there, but for the most part, the civillians at DOA hate them and do everything they can to screw with them.
Also, they told me the part time program is ending for retired PO's. It seems the union they were forced to join (SEIU) sold them out.
WHAT MORONS , Now there really going to go into these schools full throttle and shoot em all up , Its bad enough already. What are they going to do now Start giving everyone Water Guns , Just like they might as well give Aviation Police Water Guns anyway , But then again some of them Aviation Clowns I see over there shouldn't even carry a Water Gun either .

In response to your comments on the TV show "Scandal". I've never done this but I e-mailed ABC, stating that I would never watch that show again, not that they care. All the evil in that are in that show as you stated, plus torture, is totally acceptable. This was one of the worst things I've seen in a long time. "Olivia" can give orders to the police during a live stand-off with a man with a shotgun. Idiots believe this bull!
There is a retired detective working there in a position not far from what Maurer did. Military vet too. I would trust him to know how thing really work.

Baltimore will "split the difference." Disbanding the school police and contracting a PRIVATE agency who will deploy low trained $9.00 an hour unarmed security guards. Privatizing services is the answer in this new age of "austerity."
