Rahm Leads by 10

  • Mayor Rahm Emanuel's latest moves in his re-election campaign appear to have steered voters in his favor.

The latest poll numbers show Emanuel with a comfortable lead over challenger Jesus "Chuy" Garcia, but the mayor remains shy of the majority of votes with just a few weeks to go until the runoff election April 7.

Ogden and Fry released a poll Saturday that showed Emanuel with 47.1 percent of the vote and Garcia with 36.7 percent. The poll takes into account undecided voters as well, who came in at a high 16.2 percent.

These undecided voters are key to winning the election, the poll makers noted. The conventional wisdom is that undecided voters usually do not break for a well-known incumbent, meaning Emanuel could still be in trouble, despite his lead.
We think it was Kass who pointed out an interesting fact the other day. In the just-past election, Rahm polled at something like 45% with a lot of "undecided" folks refusing to commit to a candidate. Rahm's total for the election? 45.4%. That means that he certainly didn't inspire a lot of fence-sitters to commit to him. It also means that turnout is going to be the key, and a rainy-bad-weather-type day could significantly affect portions of the electorate. Rahm hasn't gone full negative yet, but you can see his media lapdogs already attempting to suppress voter turnout by touting the polls (Rahm leads!) and poking at Garcia for not having a concrete plan (but failing to point out Rahm's own lack of a plan).

Rahm has an edge in polling, but not an insurmountable one.

Please, please, please don't vote for rahm. He is systematically destroying your pensions. He knows exactly what is happening while he acts like he doesn't. He is a communist along with Rauner and Obama.

City workers always say they are undecided.

They fear RAHM hunting them down.

Even the mighty police do not speak their mind for fear of being dumped.

Just get everyone in your house to vote even your kid in their 20s who can't find a job.
explain how your pension work and that mom and dad may lose big time.

Not voting for building a 'Commission'(that's more bucks plus 'who are they?').
Not voting for a study either cause that costs lots of money, too.
And don't want to be holden to Jesse Jackson, Father Pflager, or even Clem Balinoff (read his life on the iternet).

Rahm's carpet bombing the airwaves with anti Chuy ads saying Chuy has no financial plan.
RAHM doesn't have much of a plan either other than counting on Springfield to enable him to fuck our pensions.
Rahm has known about this $550 million balloon payment to police and fire pension funds since before he even took office. What has Rahm done to plan for it.... why nothing of course. Just like he's done about the city's regular required pension obligations... zip, zero, zilch!
Fuck you Rahm. We've worked too hard for too long for our pensions that we're entitled to.

It was stated that in psychology people do not want to be considered loser status, i.e. supporting a loser etc.
Thus, sometimes subconsciously they tend to lean in support toward more a positive status such as winners.
As such, if Rham can portray through his friends in the media that he is ahead or the likely winner etc., he could pick up some of those undecided votes merely for that reason. Granted it's a small percentage, but every little bit counts and either candidate needs a quantity of these available 'small percentages' to turn the tide.
Political Strategy 101.
Here's an interesting article on a bail out, Rham appears to be hiding. (Copy/Paste)

Well, we had 20 years of Daley the son who refused to debate anyone and just told everyone to kiss his ass. Meanwhile, he sold the cities assets, lied and cheated to get friends contracts ( think Hired Truck), rigged city hiring and police promotions and I don't recall as much bad things said about him as I read now about Rahm. Rahm will probably win, but it could be close. He will not run again after this 2nd term. He wants to leave the city with a good financial structure. And, it will hurt all concerned. If you listened to the debates, people are finally admitting on how bad our pension system really is. It is slidding on its way to insolvency. You really thing Garcia can or will do anything different and " save" our pension? Rahm does not want to make that pension payment next year and I think that he will find a way out of it. Within the next two years the pension crisis and it is a crisis will come to a head. I hope it survives.

Dean the President of the FOP had very little to say at FOP hall today.
2 different informal polls done by the FOP and CHUY won both.

Expect Dean to go with no endorsement. He values what the membership wants if it fits his agenda.
Dean knows he would be a 1 term president if he endorses RAHM.
And his sons future in the FOP would be squashed ASAP.

And the PPO Kilmer seems to want Rahm but has trouble dealing with senior officers who are Anti RAHM.

The lodge has dropped the ball a few times now???
The FOP app gone
Calendar book screw up
ballots sent out late
5th watch violations of contract
no notes taken during interviews with mayoral candidates???

Funny thing how entitlements work in this city. You work your entire life with the promise of being paid the deferred portion of your salary when you retire. Now granted that you have contributed 9% from every paycheck and the city has contributed 18% on your behalf as part of your deferred benefit to ensure you are paid this benefit. Now comes along the democratic voting deadbeat who never worked a day in their life unless you consider selling dope on the corner or knocking out 5 kids with five different baby’s daddies. They call our pensions entitlements and we call getting everything for free while never working a day in their lives entitlements. Only difference in these is the people who actually worked for and contributed to their pensions are now being threatened with reductions or the complete loss of their pension so those who never worked will not have their entitlements diminished. We thought redistribution of wealth only affected people making 7 figures. Think again it's you and me, the common working men and women who make less than $100K a year. How fu**ed up is this government?? It's time to stop the gravy train. Everyone needs to get a job. And all benefits, section 8 link, ssi disability are good only for a total of 5 years out of your entire life and these benefits should not be available until you reach 30 years of age and have worked for at least 5 years. No more pay to play. I'm not paying anymore for you to play while I work.

You need to look at a TIF map, sir. TIFs cover the entire city these days and aren't limited to a few little sections of the city.

And if your sensibilities are offended by the distribution of that money, how about pouring the TIF money into the neighborhoods and taking the 'regular' tax money and use that STRICTLY to fund the pensions? (It's pretty much the same as putting the apples on the right side of the table and moving them to the left side, but if it makes you happier, that's the way it can easily be done.)
Or, the City Council could just change the law and allow a one-time diversion of the TIFs to the pension fund, for the financial viability of the City.

I don't answer any call from any number I don't know...

If I get a call from an unfamiliar number I GOOGLE it and add "800notes". That brings up a website where people leave comments on who calls them. A few turn out to be legit but most are scams and they tell you. Then I file the number under DNA (Do Not Answer). Then if they call back I ignore them or answer "15th District Lock-up Officer Turner" or some non-sense. That usually ends the calls.
