VRI Check Goes "BOING!"

Someone got some explaining to do:
  • Speaking of VRI.....

Minutes ago, I talked to an old timer in 1600 hour Michigan Ave VRI roll call. He works in 016 and said when he went to deposit his 16 Mar regular payroll check in the drive-thru of a Bank of America location, IT BOUNCED. The teller told him it was Insufficient Funds, and that he needed to come inside to see a manager. The manager confirmed that there was insufficient funds to deposit the check. He immediately notified FOP, and - hard to believe here - they told him it "wasn't their problem" and that he should contact Finance. A call to Finance went unanswered.
Anyone else have this problem with a hard check?

An employee not being paid for time worked for his employer is not the union's problem?

I doubt that was a VRI check being paid on the 16th. VRI isn't paid out until the 22nd of every month, and any officer who works VRI knows that. I am guessing the check was for sell back days. I also doubt the validity of a city check bouncing. Maybe the guy was trying to withdraw the funds immediately after deposit and the check hadn't cleared yet? Nevertheless, it wasn't a VRI check.

I have to ask.....

What is the FLOP for.....

Why could not one of the "Field Reps" say.... "We'll call finance, and get back to you".....

As a retiree, I'd like to chuckle and say you get what you pay for......

But, folks, I have to say you pay for much better service.....

The quality of the office staff is very poor.....

Good Luck

Doesn't sound right. Either the teller made a mistake, doesn't know what he/she is doing, or the old timer is blowing smoke. Almost any time that you deposit a hard check, the funds are not immediately available (sometimes a portion of the funds will be immediately available). Hence, no way the check would have bounced right there and then at that moment -it takes a couple/few days for the check to clear or bounce. Personally, I received a hard check for tuition reimbursement last week, made the deposit in the ATM and it cleared in a few days.

There's rumor now floating around that since the BFD and PDAY sell back days were included with the 16 March regular salary paycheck (instead of in April when it usually arrives) it some how threw a wrench in the works.

Those with direct deposit seem to be unaffected by this snafu. However, that's little consolation to those who were unable to deposit paychecks into their accounts and now have to wait until a fix is implemented. If they're like most coppers that live check-to-check, this little bump in the road is really gonna throw them for a loop if they have bills due.

Exactly right. A problem for finance. Lots of reasons the check did not clear, finance is the place to find out the reason and solve the problem.

No because it's impossible. Checks don't bounce on site at any bank. They give you the money or deposit and after 72 hours the check will either clear or bounce. If it bounces you will then be charged a fee. Never ever have they or ever will bounce while you are still at the bank. Nice try, by the way my checks were all good. Another troll... Scc, the comment said payroll check, not vri. VRI checks come out 22nd of each month.

Years ago, your city paycheck was cashed at many different locations. Out of roll call Police would go to a currency exchange or a bank in their district and receive immediate cash. City checks were always considered "good". This changed before direct deposit started and suddenly you had to have the matching funds in an account, prior to withdrawal. Funds should be available immediately and not just posted to your account.

Has anyone connected the dots yet? Our FOP president was planted there by our good friend Rahm. Think back and everything that Dean was saying resembles what Rahm has done or is stating to do. Their campaigns sound similar. Plus, whatever happened to no broken promises. Where are the field reps at the roll calls? They suppose to earn their stipend or lose it.... Interesting, broken as the day they fumbled it all. How about the great idea of using the FOP app as a resource... Broken, unable to resolve. Pay check... Broken, don't know what to do.

Lastly, an offender who dies due to being involved in a Police shooting is not a victim. They are an offender as they have always been. The Police don't owe them anything. Offender + a threat of death + Police action = threat eliminated and as a result offender died due to their wounds. Offender... Not a victim.

Not sure how it works in IL but in NC BOA requires you to have sufficient funds in YOUR account before they will "cash" a deposited check.

The ONLY way they could determine that there weren't sufficient in the payor's account is if it were ALSO a BOA account.

Downstate newspapers reported llinois residents' state income tax refunds will be delayed this year as new security measures to battle identity theft and fraud are implemented. Processing by the state began on Feb 12.

"Illinois Department of Revenue spokesman Terry Horstman said the agency is increasing security measures to prevent identity thieves from claiming fraudulent income tax refunds. The new measures are being implemented simultaneously with the Internal Revenue Service and state revenue departments across the country."

Just remember, a new world...if you are a taxpayer you pay and the welfare babies and illegals get everything....there will be no refunds in the future...

I just received my ILLINOIS tax refund.

Instead of direct deposit they mailed me a "hard check" which I deposited at the credit union today.

Did anyone have their Illinois tax refund direct deposited this year or are they all "hard checks" for some reason?

This City AND State are fucked.

No your tax guy is fucked I received mine direct deposit

If you actually read and pay attention to what you read this states the officer took his REGULAR DUTY check on the 16 and it bounced. He probably was mistaken and did not have enough funds in his own check or the bank messed something up.

You have a bad tax guy. All he had to do was mark the direct deposit area and put in your bank routing number and bank account number.

Wise families have at least one paycheck worth of $$ saved up in order to get through a brief hard time. With what CPD is paid no one should live paycheck to paycheck.

>>>>Must be nice to not have 3 FACTS accounts! Oh, you don't know what those are? Mine are due the 16th of each month. Every month is a brief hard time, LOL

Checks don't bounce like that. Duhhh. deposit checks go back to the payee account first before they would know of no funds. takes a could days.

If all you guys who worked VRI put as much time into voting and getting involved with your union you would be a force to be reckoned with. Instead you are a bunch of what's in it for me right now guys. Big picture is ask not what your union can do for you but what you can do to make your union work for you. Working VRI reduces the viability of your pension fund and is just like union busting. How disgusting when you have 10,000 active members and only 65 eligible members that have 5 meetings in the previous year and are able to run for elected office. You guys are your own worst enemies. You should be at your union meeting instead of on this blog telling everyone what is wrong with your union. Your lack of involvement is what is wrong with you, and according to you it’s what is wrong with your union. Only you can fix that. Posting on the blog does not count for getting involved. Wake up dumb F**ks.

Just remember this all you fans of direct deposit:

The city has the right (you signed it) to make a grab OUT of your account if they believe they made a mistake in the amount they deposited. The devil is in the fine print. This city is the LAST entity I am giving permission to take $$$ OUT of my account. And no, I don't have 12 accounts to hide the extras from the old lady.

FOP is f****** horrible!!! I ran out of fingers counting how many times those cocky jag offs answer the phone with that "What do you want?" inflection in the tone of their voice. What do we have left? It's all dwindling down to ZERO.

I agree called a coupe of times for things like IOD and Missing W2's and the people in finance giving me the run around and I got the same attitude and same " I'm a big shot don't bother me " bullshit can't we draw like a vote of no confidence on these fucking guys or something

I'm a retired officer for almost 18 years. Our checks are deposited. What he said was not true. But I'll tell you what was true and happened to me about 2 years.I was depositing my part time job check at TCF Bank and of course removing some money back when I found out that my pension money didn't arrived. It should of arrived 5 days earlier to my account. I blamed TCF and they denied. I called FOP and they told me to call the pension people which I did and they stated they had no record of me. I began screaming at them, after 15 years I didn't exist. It took them several hours to straighten out my pension. They FedEx me a paper check a couple days later. I did't understand why they didn't deposit my money directly to my bank account. Well I'm now getting my money on time and I also know I exist. I can now see my check accounts on my computer for me to see. The pension people did screw something, one year my 1099 form was for 11 months and the following year my 1099 form was for 13 months. Unbelievable. I thought maybe they were punishing me for being the writer of the 025 Gallows. PLEASE BE CAREFUL EVERYONE.
