Can You Believe it?
Wow.
We'll tell you this...when the blog started, we had no idea it was going to go ten years. A number of like-minded folks come up with an idea over beers and ten years later, here we are, outlasting a mayor, a couple of superintendents, countless exempts, more than a few other blogs and even a few FOP regimes. At this rate, we might even outlast the pension, though we hope not.
We've put up over 14,200 posts, moderated over 884,000 comments (and removed barely a fraction of that), and hosted over 38.5 MILLION visits. We attempted to give a voice to the Officers and provide an outlet for expressing what was only talked about over beers. We tried to let the Officers' side of a story be told in the face of an increasing hostile political and media climate, pointed out more times than we can count the dishonesty in "counting crime" and statistical manipulation of data to provide a narrative for crooked politicians, and tried to highlight the good work officers do so often without any credit whatsoever. We've tried to broadcast as many fundraisers, memorials, remembrances as we heard about.
We've tried to have fun, plain and simple.
If it wasn't for the readers, we wouldn't even spend the time on it, so thank you for the time you spend here. Our voice would be smaller if we had a mere hundred or so readers. We'd bet there isn't a cop who hasn't heard of the blog and nearly everyone had read at least one post, even if it was to say, "I'm never coming back." The number of IP addresses registered to 35th Street let us know that we're required reading downtown every single day. Hi Garry!
In any event, thanks. You might notice an additional service bar has been added to the right hand side of the page. We're looking forward to the step raise, the extra BFD and the working-day-furlough.
On with the show.

You make me feel old. I remember reading SCC 10 yrs ago on a dept computer before the filters and dept drama got involved. It's been a interesting ride. I hope all is well with you, "your staff" and most importantly- your families. Thanks for the entertainment guys, yo helped pass more than a few long nights.
Thanks for the effort. Very few places to turn for honest, credible information nowadays.
PS Go Blackhawks!
I'm Not a Cop but day in and day out for the last 5 years I have been reading this blog. It's my morning newspaper and since this blog I have not even once paid for a Sun Times. A couple of my cop buddies told me about this place and I've been hooked ever since. Every thread, every post/comment I read. Not being a cop I can't relate to the departmental internal issues and job politics but I understand to the best of my abilities. I mostly read for the satire, the clever wit and the right wing feel. Not to mention I love the insight on city politics from REAL common sense people. Keep up the good work and Long Live SCC! I'll always be an astute reader and fan.
- Not a Cop.
Make it another 10 at least, SCC. Congrats with your stats. So glad Ur out there keeping us posted. News makes news. Stick with it. We need U and really enjoy Ur way with words. Now, tip the glasses high. Police are Forever. Lets keep it that way.
The blog has been educational, informative, and at times, entertaining.
It's responsible for a large fraction of what I know about LE as a civilian and I am a much more informed voter and a better person for it.
You guys put yourselves through a living hell. But somebody has to do this job and if not for yourselves stepping up, who else will?
Know that sometimes backup will not always arrive in the form of a fellow MOS. If I ever see one of y'all in trouble, it'll be my pleasure to lend a hand as needed.
This blog has created a lot of new friends of LE whether y'all realize it or not.
I'm with y'all through hell and high water, so keep fighting the good fight.
From a Sgt with 28+ years on and a career-long district guy, I wanna say THANK YOU for all your time you take to give a voice to those who need to vent, including myself.
As aggravating as I get while reading some of the comments on certain posts, this is an excellent soundboard for us Officers.
My time left on the job is short, but I must say, I LOVE my job! Beginning to end, I've had phenomenal partners & co-workers and some great bosses (some not so great, but still o.k.).
Please look out for each other, don't let the political bullshit get you down & hold your head high.
Be proud of what you do and most importantly, go home safely to your loved ones every night!!
Thank you for taking your time to run this blog, SCC!!!!
Congratulations, SCC!
Your work inspired us to take our neighborhood issues online. Thank you for that and thank you for your ongoing support.
Cheers!

SCC- loyal through & through to your reporting and objectives and victories, large and small for past 9 years when I discovered you. Naturally, I read every single archived post/comments for that first year to "catch up". There's never been finer reporting/better writing regarding what's really going on in our city. You've done yourself proud...I know enough about SCC to know it takes "a village" ha ha, so kudos to every single one of you who put it together daily. You're beyond-beyond great. 10 years to be proud of, every single post, all your commentary, your perspective, your TRUTH- always on the money...who needs the media in this town when we have you lifting up the sewer lids and checking under every one of them. Love ya, SCC. Cheers to the next ten! Stay safe and happy.
Congrats SCC!!!! Here's to the past 10 years and here's to 10 more!! You ROCK!!
Happy Birthday SCC
You guys rock. Thanks for all you do, both in the field and on this website. You have provided a valuable and informative forum. Be safe out there !
Congratulations!! You out lasted a mayor who tried to close you down.. and you out lasted a Superintendent who tried running his own blog only to get shut down by a intermediate Superintendent. Yes you are still going strong. You give the voiceless a medium to have free speech and set the record straight. Thank you and happy birthday.
Not only have you tried, you've succeeded. Happy anniversary, SCC.
From a PO who just finished his status I say thank you! Because of the blog I've been informed and kept up to date. I am glad I didn't listen to the department members who said avoid the blog!!
What you do takes a lot of effort; and it is very much appreciated by those who read you regularly.
Thanks & Congratulations!
Just want to say Thanks I go here and read the stupid nonsense I read cheers me up after a long day of taking in the crap from the hood or what society has become. Good laugh keeps me going thanks.
A second service bar or not, you're calling the desk in the morning to see if our arrestee has cleared and will be going to court, Kid.
Congrats! And may this be the first of many more decades of rattling the cages of the many deserved motherfuckers responsible for the perptual ruination of what was once the premier law enforcement agency in the United States.
sarcasm and silliness makes my day. give them all hell. they deserve it. thank you.
Congrats SCC. We're hoping you're around for another 10.
I love you guys.....Is that OK to say?
Thank you or the time and effort that you put into this blog. Even though my husband retired 5 years ago and we moved out of the City the next day I still make this daily reading.
You do a wonderful job of keeping everyone updated on the truth.
Keep up the good work. Happy Anniversary to an insignificant blog.
A wife.
Congrats and keep up the great work. I NEVER miss your posts. One of the best places to get real news in Chicago. Now I just wish more of Chicago's "journalists" and "reporters" had the guts to tell the truth and quit spinning the liberal bullshit. Take care men and women in blue. You have a TON of supporters out there who know the crap you take every day and the honor with which you serve. You have our full support if you ever get so sick of Rahm and McCarthy's bullshit that you take a short break from the job to stay home and nurse the "flu." Someday, someday, we will get this great city, state, country back.
IP addresses from 35th you say? The people there say " I never looked at that blog!" And that's like saying the alderman and Dean will make sure pension payments are fully paid! Free speech in the USA, thanks to all the heros that fought and died to make sure our rights are protected even though the rights of police officers are being eroded daily! God bless the "spirits of the air" you are truly 1 of a kind, thank you for the tireless work and the "behind the curtain the mighty Oz err mighty SCC!" Let's go another 20 years being the voice of coppers!
How come the computers at 35th Street get access to the blog, but everywhere else access is blocked?
God Bless SCC. Congrats. Thanks for all the info and laughs. Kick your feet up and have a beer!
Thanks for being the one place for officers department wide to communicate and share both the good and bad about all that concerns us.
Congratulations on your tenth anniversary. Keep up the good reporting.
"AVE"
Love your blog keep up the good work !!!
Congratulations!
Congrats SCC! We just had our anniversary too! Time flies by! Go Hawks!
I cannot imagine what the City and the "Job" would be like without SCC. And I say that in all seriousness, because SCC came to life at a time when the Politicians and Media began to realize that the decades and trillions of dollars that had been stolen and wasted by Liberalism had failed to win The War on Poverty, and they needed a scapegoat, and that scapegoat was the Police. Ten years ago, everyone for a few hundred dollars suddenly had a window to the world via the internet, and were no longer limited to news that had been censored to comply with an agenda driven by the Left Leaning Paternalistic Media, and corrupt politicians. SCC has actually driven the Local News and that cannot be denied or ignored. On one occasion I posted a story on SCC, and within a week, Sneed published that story, naturally with her claiming credit. So what I am saying is based on fact. SCC is a Revolution, and I hope the begging of the end of Madigans, Cullertons,Claypool,Rahm and all the other political flunkies who have made Chicago a place where we will only have the Haves and Have Nots. The Middle Class is being driven out of Chicago, and were it not for the residency requirement, most of the City employees would be the first to go. I am now retired from the "Job" but I still work part time jobs with coppers and it breaks my heart to see young coppers working two jobs to pay Catholic school tuition for two kids. (Two kids at a Catholic High School comes to about$25,000 to $30,000 per year!) If these coppers lived in the burbs they could use the public schools, but the schools in Chicago are shit, and everyone knows it. And the Bosses deny it, but I know as a fact that they read and FEAR, SCC, because like the roaches that they are, they realize the light of the truth exposes the corruption that they represent from their promotions to their assignments. SCC stay strong, because we need YOU. Sgt."Baby G"
From the pure BS to the truth hiding in the BS to the BS trying to look like truth SCC has been one hell of read. Your sense of integrity is what makes this a great blog to read. Congratulations on a decade of listening to what is happening and reporting it all.
Congrats, SCC!
It's been a fabulous run, always spot on with the truth. Like many others I too read you every day.
A big congratulations from this retired USAF Master Sergeant. I read your blog to get the truth about the crap that goes on in my former hometown. I can relate to the red tape political bullshit that liberals continuously try to dump on conservative America. I have nothing but respect for the urban warriors in blue who try to keep some semblance of a civil society in the City with Broad Shoulders! God Bless all of you for what you do! Here's to many more years of putting out the truth!
Happy 10 Year Anniversay, SCC!
I've been a die-hard reader and fan of the blog ever since the very funny "interview" with the old Daily Southtown back in 2007. The original Daily Southtown link doesn't exist anymore, but the interview still belongs to the ages:
http://z3.invisionfree.com/Political_Deathmatch/ar/t15807.htm
10 years wow! That's a long time and lets hope for many many more great years of excellent reporting! Your the best! Rumor has it that a "spirit of the air" member is retiring this year and will be contributing more as his thumb drive is full, as the joker from the old Batman would say "Delicious Batmam!"
SCC,
Congrats and God Bless. Your work is excellent!!! It is a fact that Georgas and Guiliford read the blog and have made policy changes because of you. They both are too stupid or arrogant to come up with ideas that are expressed here. Not to mention when those two that I call the dynamic duo. Butt man and Robin have been called out on fucked up policy changes on this blog. You have provided an outlet not just to laugh but for coppers to tell the truth on what's going on. Great job!!!!
Thanks. This could have simply been an electronic bathroom wall of shit talking(which happens sometimes), but you folks(or people) have rooted out and exposed the true corruption of this city and department, that before the internet, was all swept under the rug.The censoring that the MSM does day in and day out under the direction of the politicians is sickening. Thanks for standing up for all good people, no matter the color. Thanks also for calling out an asshole whether they be blue, white, black, brown or purple. You gave the spotlight to worthy causes, and Officers needing help. You provided an outlet. You are recognized nation & world wide, and you should be proud.
Don't stop.
Now go out and generate a few event #'s would you!
Congrats,
Retired.(Read while OTJ and obviously now)
Unfortunately you spawned that crazy bastard DSLC.I still check in there to get my freak on every once in a while.Crazy Bastard.
Viva SCC & DSLC.Keep the hits coming.
How many blogs came and went? But the "king of blogs" keeps moving forward that's how Winning is done! Many have tried to destroy this blog from the top elected and bosses but as usual being the failures they are cannot destroy a living breathing organism! Not going to happen!

I remember when SCC was totally unmoderated and people would write long porn stories and post them. Didn't last long.

Many congrats on your 10-year milestone, SCC. I was turned onto your blog some 7-8 years ago. Since then I have started my early morning AM with a hot cuppa Joe and SCC's latest updates. Screw the two local fish-wrappers that are completely owned by the Machine. Same deal with our local TV media, nothing more than shills for the lefty Progressive Obama Nation.
Please keep up the outstanding work.
I am a retiree 1999 and read the blog every day! Thanks for being there..
As a citizen who has read this blog faithfully each morning for years, I want to thank SCC for your invaluable blog, and thank every member of the CPD for your service. There ARE people in this city that sincerely appreciate everything you do to keep us safe. THANK YOU.
I remember when you ruffled feathers and bosses wanted to take you down and I'm sure they tried but were warned against it. Also wanted to sensor comments. I have a question, where are our bosses and leaders when a radio station broadcasts comments about killing cops and
Family members? Where is the media? Hey boss, I'm suppose to follow your leadership or lack of?
