- Hundreds of people rallied in downtown Chicago Saturday to protest killings of African Americans by police.
Police officers patrolled as protesters marched from Federal Plaza to City Hall Saturday afternoon.
Organizers say the march is meant to send a message to political figures that black lives matter.
The protesters also held a mass rally at Daley Plaza.
Let's just point out that Chicago Police have been involved in how many shootings this year where someone got hit? Twelve. It is historically low. And persons killed by the police? Four. Another historic low.
According to HeyJackass.com (the place SCC goes for stats), there have been 324 homicides in Chicago this year as of tonight.
77.8% of the victims have been black. 18.7% Hispanic.
305 out of 324 dead are minority.
Where the shooter is known, 87% are other minorities.
But police are the problem?

Looking at the stats of Police Officers killed in the line of duty this year is down 2%, which leads you to believe that it will be higher than last by years end. He is very gung ho and aggressive and wants to lock people up left and right. He made the above statement. I told him that it was a complete lie and a farce. He refused to believe it. Actually, if I remember correctly, back in the late 60's and early 70's there was a white catholic priest who tried to keep whites from moving out of the southside neighborhoods and wanted Ashland Ave as the color line. He was roundly blasted by the media and eventually left town.We all know what happened next. What used to be good areas turned into a bad area now known as one of the worst in the USA; Englewood. No businesses, no restaurants, no stores,no theaters, no decent nightclubs or taverns and lots of bodies.Plus, now, lots of vacant lots.

My partner is on furlogh. So I end up working with new people everyday. I worked with an officer who just got off the foot patrol and now is assigned to my district. He is very gung ho and aggressive and wants to lock people up left and right. He made the above statement. I told him that it was a complete lie and a farce. He refused to believe it. The police academy does a great job of indoctrinating recruits. I will never forget what my fto told me: "listen young man, big arrest big problem, little arrest, little problem. No arrest, no problem".

You blame the academy? Do you realize that a new recruit out of the academy might be assigned to the traffic detail for months then a FTO for 4 cycles. Then the impact zone until they are off probation. The amount of training after leaving the academy is 4 months. If they had a competent FTO. Now you blame the academy for a recruit that is one year after the academy? The system sucks for new PPO's. The street training is lacking, at the best is very minimal. No one cares about training but makes big assumptions that PPO's have the skills to act on the street. Maybe you could take time and provide the guidance for the new officer?

Grew up in Marquette park in the early 70s. 64th and Sacramento to be exact. Used to be able to go to Ashland without any problems. That sure deteriorated quickly.

How true. But for young guys it's all backwards. I've been a dick for awhile now and at first all this shit was no problem. Now, every arrest, all I can do is think of what can go wrong.
