Quick Decision - Correct Decision

One bit of good coming out of last night's bloodbath - police heroism recognized:
  • Two Chicago police officers arrived to Monday night's chaotic quintuple shooting scene in the Back of the Yards neighborhood and were immediately met by a woman carrying a wounded baby.

The baby, 11-month-old Princeton Chew, was losing a lot of blood. No ambulances were in sight.

The Deering District officers, John Conneely and Michael Modzelewski, were left with no choice but to go against department protocol -- and drive Princeton to the hospital on their own.
There probably isn't an officer - or a decent human being - who wouldn't do the same under similar circumstances, and these cops rose to the occasion. We don't want to hear from the naysayers and trolls who have been whining about the severity or lack of severity of the wound - any hole in an 11-month-old child is severe, and the kid certainly didn't get to choose his parents.

An excellent job by the officers.

I have been reading this blog for a couple of years now. There seems to be many bitter police officers on this blog. I also know many officers that witness gang shootings daily and are not sympathetic about what goes on in certain communities. When I heard about the two officers it actually choked me up to know that there are officers out there that care. There are officers out there that do not think "they are all the same". Great job! I hope this gets National attention. I am also going to say it: I'm glad it was two white officers.

Good job and good thinking by the officers. In a busy night in a fast district usually ambulances are in short supply because they are always responding to calls for service.

I wonder if db Tracy apologized to Conneely after the db accused Conneely and his other partner of flipping him off at a graduation a couple of years ago. I doubt it. But if anyone deserves to get the bird, it's Tracy.

Where are "Da Revends" and the International Media; White Cops save Black Baby! Oh, they only show up when it is White Cop kills Black Thug. Then again, they may show up if it is Black Cop saving a White Racist, as they did at that protest in the South where the White Racist was saved from heat exhaustion by the Black Cop. The lack of integrity shown by the Media today is the reason it has lost it's credibility and will soon be bankrupt. When was the last time you have seen someone under the age of 40 buying a newspaper? T.V. news is next and then Political Pundits. Those officers were heroes and represent what the Chicago Police Department is about. Think Father Faker will invite them to his Sunday Service? "Baby G"

Lets not get carried away. They did a fine job but to get promoted for it. Did the officers who drove Del Pearson, who actually was bleeding to death, to the hospital get promoted. Did the po that got shot a few years back and had 11 surgeries get promoted. Did the last 10 or 20 officers that received the departments life saving award get promoted.
Not diminishing what they did, but to be promoted

Slightly Off Topic:
Re: recent comments of new DC zig 009 in way over his head.... I don't know if he is or he isn't.
What I do know is he has built an "Admin Staff" of more sworn, full duty coppers than any DC I've ever seen.
So many , in fact, that just the sworn, full duty coppers of his "staff" alone could more than man a 2nd watch roll call.
He's got so many coppers tucked away up there that he ran out of cubicle space and has taken over the Quiet Room and turned it into office space and staffed it with a few more full duty coppers.
What's up with this Commander?
Is this your way of attempting to quell the crazy violence in 009?

I'm young in this job and I work in the burbs. I was reading this blog before I became the police. There are a lot of bitter cops period. If you ever get to know any of them, which will be hard because you already seem to have a strong opinion of who we are, they might explain to you a few things that would help you understand why. This job can eat you a live. I've never met anyone who wanted to be a cop NOT to help people, not to try to get bad guys,or not to want to progress in their career. You're talking about people who get failed and let down by their employer, by the court system and by politicians everyday. It takes some of the greatest of men to remain optimistic, lively and untouched by all this stuff you deal with everyday. It's like working on a pig farm but somehow expecting to be able to come home as is without some work. You can't just easily "drop the day off of you." I used to think a lot more like you. What happened? Probably getting punched in the head by a pregnant teenager was my wake up call. Then a chick that lied on me and said I tried to get some nook nook as a bribe. That one would've got me fired and sued. This is the number 1 job I know where doing your job the way you were always taught can get your fired and sued. Before you try to typecast me...I'm black. If you think the way I think is an exception...get some police friends and see.

Great job coppers! Fuck anyone who says different, questions any of it or wants to throw their two cents in about how they'd of handled it. Promotions should be based on actions like this, not clout and ass licking! If nothing else, another notch of respect is under your belt.

I remember back in the early 90's we had a little baby that died. We were told to call for the wagon to transport to the ME's office. Now remember these were the old squadrols with one big compartment (with enough room to move during an attitude adjustment). My partner (RIP 7532) and I said "Fuck that" and put the baby in our back seat (remember the "good" old days, with one cage, one computer car, etc per sector?) and drove down to the ME's. Although we did catch a little shit from the Sergeant for not doing as we were told, nothing happened. GO's are written by people who have never done the job you are asked to do and the bosses that day knew it!

I really can't see the Department coming down on these guy. I mean, both of them got a message on their phones by the mayor, commending them on taking charge of the situation and probably saving this child's life! And, they were on the air saying they were 2 blocks from Stroger when the first ambulance arrived! So, I think that message from the Tiny Dancer will be save and played back at any call for them to be strung up (Or sued!). Great job guys!
