More Laws! More Laws!
- Michael Santiago bought a revolver to protect himself after the former gang member was tagged with the dangerous label of “snitch” because he testified at the murder trial of another gang member, prosecutors said Sunday at his bail hearing.
But his plan went terribly wrong.
Santiago’s 6-year-old son got his hands on the gun and accidentally shot his 3-year-old brother while the toddler ate a bowl of macaroni and cheese, killing him, prosecutors said.
“This is the ultimate tragedy,” Cook County Judge James Brown said before setting Santiago’s bail at $75,000. “I’m sure the defendant didn’t intend for this to happen, but it did happen.”
Intended? No.
Preventable? 100%.
Maybe more than 100% (if that were possible) since he bought it illegally, stored it improperly, and may not have even been eligible to own it, seeing as how he bought it from another gang member. Hopefully, someone is working to make sure the appropriate gun-running charges are presented so the Supernintendo doesn't have to point out how the laws aren't being enforced against criminals in Illinois again.
Meanwhile, we're sure that Rahm and Garry are working diligently to ensure that this guy's FOID and Concealed Carry permits are summarily revoked...along with any one else who dares to own a gun. Never let a crisis go to waste and all that crap.

So....... was the case report a 0110??? How will it be classified for the monthly totals? Homicide? Accidental discharge? Child endangerment?
Something just doesn't sound right about this story. How did the 6 year old get the gun off the top of the fridge? And that trigger pull is what, around 10 pounds? I'm not saying it's not possible. It just sounds like bullshit.
He didn't intend for this to happen...should I point out the 700lb gorilla in the room?
Stupid dysfunctional trash don't intend to do a lot of socially destructive things, they just suck at life. Which is why you don't want them in your neighborhood, your state or your country.
Hasn't he been punished enough by the tragic loss of his 3 year old son?
You know the usual's are gonna jump all over the "no more guns" bs over this. It's ridiculous. That moron lost a lot over being fucking stupid (although that smirk in the mugshot made me wonder). Showed the fucking 6 year old where he kept it and used a pair of pajama pants as the case. I don't think I've ever seen a .32 cal revolver before but I bet as that kid grows up he'll see it quit a bit in his memories. If he wasn't the sole provider for his other reproductions I'd tell that fuck to walk the plank so we don't have to worry about any more of dad's great ideas in parenting!
I wonder if the "jury" will believe the police "narrative" in this case?
inalienable right to self defense
This story is on the Yahoo website. It is utterly amazing at some of the comments on that sight. Libtard leftists throwing their "thanks NRA", "blame the republicans", and/or "no such thing as responsible gun owners" comments, while completely ignoring the fact that this POS is a gangbanger, bought the gun illegally, and left it unattended. Our country is so ass-backwards....its mind-boggling.
If thug boy was so scared, why didn't he keep the gun with him at all times?
If thug boy had kept the gun on him, then the 6 year old would never have been able to use it. He didn't have the gun because he was a snitch and scared, he had it because he was a thug gang-banger. He can't be a thug without a gun, but he is too irresponsible to care for it or his family properly. He left it lying around where his kid could get it because he was a lazy irresponsible thug gang-banger.
Lock him up before he gets more people hurt and killed.
What was tragic was the fact that this fool reproduced twice.
"Ultimate tragedy" huh? The ultimate tragedies is scum like this are able to spawn, $75,000 bond, bargain basement amount what's the gang oh sorry former gang bangers history? Should he even be on the street? Sorry about the kid but gang banging dad is responsible! Crook county's justice failed again!
They set thousands of convicts out on the streets before their prison sentences are over. They don't even enforce existing laws. So, yeah, it only makes sense to pass more unenforceable laws. Especially when you're dealing with criminals.....you know...people who don't follow the law to begin with.
Any description of the young males committing strong armed robberies near Belmont and Rockwell . Chicago Fox News has no further information .
Like father like son
Poor kids.
La vida loca again, tHuG lIfE. Great.
Emanuel has just earmarked another $250,000 of money we don't have for another "gun buy-back" program.
He's confused, huh?
This Santiago guy didn't want to sell a gun. He wanted to buy one -- so he did.
Yeah, I'm sure there was a 4473 filled out, and an instant background check, and valid FOIDs all around...
Spell it out with blocks. Some people don't obey laws -- no matter how many laws there are.
D'oh.
Emanuel will be meeting with "reverends and activists" at some church on the West Side today.
Why? Is there some kind of problem there?

Children climb and explore. Hell, my cat got up there once. That was funny. Just wanted a new perspective on things.
"And that trigger pull is what, around 10 pounds?"
If he didn't manage a DA trigger pull -- this was a revolver? -- kids can cock that hammer like on TV. Pull drops to 3 1/2 pounds or so then.
Very sad.
The mugshot in the Trib says it all with the "does I looks likes i's gives a shit", that ought to get him at least 3 months in CC Brown Detention Facility.
Wonder if that is what really happened? Sorry about the kid, but the father should not see daylight for a few years, we don't need more laws if cook county judges did their jobs and were not intimidated by letting them out early we would have a much safer city! If the thugs and felons knew they would be in prison 10 years minimum crime would spiral down! Why not call ahh let's say Russia ask Putin to house our felons in gulag style prison we pay what estimate $45,000 a year to house them bet Putin could do it for 1/8 would save taxpayers much money and reduce recidivism rate monumentally!
The 3 year old eventually would have been in the SAME gang as his father just like "Herbie the City Sticker Bitch" in 014.
He would eventually have been killed and would have killed others.
As the saying goes; "The ghetto is a self cleaning oven".
its not nice to say but maybe we are all better off that this happened... at least there is one less potential thug running around. yeah it is sad the kid was only 6 years old but with a father like that.... he would end up one of 2 places later on in life either in jail or dead.

You clearly don't have kids.
10 lb. trigger pull? A .32 prob from the 50 's and prob not maintained, I would guess 12-15 lb. pull. Possible though. Papi showed him the gun and where he kept it but told him it's for 'adults only'. Yea...nothing ever stopped me from climbing and poking around to find my dad's candy stash when I was his age. Fucking moron, hope he actually gets time and gets fucked up while in the joint.
Even worse southside, he reproduced 3 times
When we were kids, friend of mines dad had a locked room in the basement LOADED with guns (many years later I now wonder about that). I meant assault rifles, shotguns, hand bags loaded with pistols. My friend knew where the key was hidden and every chance we had we went in there messing with them. I remember one time my friend loaded a rifle with the wrong cal., opened the back door and shot (empty rail yard behind home). We thought it was cool. Did it again and realized nothing came out. Looked down the barrel and saw them both lodged in it. If it wasn't a high powered rifle he'd of been fucked! Barrel would've split open on him. Kids will always find your stash unless it's locked and YOU have the key. This guy is a fuckin idiot to think that kid wouldn't try to play with it as soon as he had the chance to. And you know damn well the mom knew that shit was there too! Give him the chop and tie her tube before they reproduce another gem!

Correct.
I taught my kids how to shoot a BB gun at about age six. Started them on .22s a couple of years older. Supervision and frequent reinforcement of safety rules. Oldest is now pushing thirty. They all still shoot. Youngest got marksmanship award in USAF. No lost eyes, limbs, lives or windows. But I hear guns are bad.
For what it's worth, news stories break down this guy as "ex-gang member." Say he was out working, mom was out shopping, grandpa watching the kids when this happened. In fear of his life after testifying against someone, got a gun the way he knew to get one, but didn't have the sense to secure it properly. Never was around the context of gun safety, lock boxes, etc. like us old gunnies. This exact tragic situation has happened with people who were never around gangs at all.
Not defending this at all, but there are some who might be making some kind of effort, as totally screwed-up as it unfortunately turns out. Best not to get into a life it's so hard to get away from, if you should want to.
I got burned once when I was little, scalding water from a hose in the utility sink. If it's dangerous, a kid will find it. Set up your place like it was a lunatic asylum, you are on the right track. >grin< Guns, medications, lighters, knives, electric cords, swim pools, the stove, all that drain cleaner and stuff under the sink...Safety First, people.
God bless all here.
The punk is already out, they came up with $7,500 cash but setting up a go fund me page to pay for the kids funeral! &7,500 family is broke wonder how they make money??

...or more. There is an example hanging in the Springfield Armory Museum, someone got out the old Black and Decker electric drill and tried to "convert" a .22 rimfire rifle to take a much larger cartridge. I don't know how the rimfire firing pin managed to hit a centerfire primer, but somehow the thing fired...ONCE.
I don't know how they ever found all the pieces, but they had them wired to a display board, spaced out like an "exploded drawing." Stock split, receiver shattered, barrel in chunks...and that bolt is going to come straight back into your eye when the locking lugs shear, behind a blast of high-pressure gas. Really something.
Don't do this.

The museum is a fascinating place, by the way. Looks like they have done a lot of work on it since last I visited around 1973. Worth a day, if you are ever out that way. Much of the grounds have been given over to the Springfield Technical College, but they have kept a fine old building for the Museum, national historic site under the National Park Service now.
