More Lies from McCompStat

  • While overall crime is down since last year, Chicago saw a big increase in fatal shootings last month, which was the deadliest September in more than a decade.

Compared to the first nine months of last year, murders were up 21 percent through the end of September. Shooting incidents were up 19 percent, and the number of shooting victims was up 14 percent. Overall crime – including robberies, burglaries, and thefts – was down 7 percent.

The rise in murders so far this year is due in large part to an especially violent September. At the end of August, murders were down 7 percent compared to the first eight months of 2014.
Really? Let's just look at those numbers that Channel 2 swallowed without doing any fact checking - Here's a monthly running total of homicides from 2014 and 2015:
  • 01/2014 - 20     01/2015 - 29 (+9)
  • 02/2014 - 41     02/2015 - 49 (+8)
  • 03/2014 - 64     03/2015 - 81 (+17)
  • 04/2014 - 101   04/2015 - 115 (+14)
  • 05/2014 - 142   05/2015 - 162 (+20)
  • 06/2014 - 178   06/2015 - 210 (+32)
  • 07/2014 - 216   07/2015 - 262 (+46)
  • 08/2014 - 264   08/2015 - 312 (+48)
  • 09/2014 - 310   09/2015 - 372 (+62)
That August 2015 number sure doesn't look 7% smaller than the August 2014 number. Just more bullshit coming out of CompStat and the media just prints it without even running it through a calculator.

Are murders and shootings not considered crime in Compstat? Seems a 21% increase in murders would far outweigh the decrease in robberies burglaries and thefts. That's not even including the shootings alone. Such a joke! And the media prints this garbage.

Not that I have been perfect all my life, I get accused of something I did not do, the state's attorney goes to a grand jury, after FOUR times presenting evidence, I have a warrant for my arrest, and a $75,000 bond. Eighteen months later I become cognizant of it and turn myself in. Six months after that, and after dropping 5K for a lawyer, I walk away from it. Nothing from the State's attorney, but we thought it was you! I have no criminal record, because my license plate was ONE digit off for whom they were looking for. Criminal justice system sucks!

The mayor's office prints a press release and faxes it to all local media outlets. The media outlets add or delete some punctuation marks to make it "original" and then prints it as fact. Hence the reason why the mayor's office is really a propaganda office and the local media are just arms of that propaganda.

The media used to be called "the fourth estate" and now they are "the fourth branch of the government". They take the press releases, the presentations and what a politician says and then they report it as news. This is why independent blogs, forums, websites that question the status quo are important.

Hey SCC,

To go from a -7% deficit to a +21% increase in a single month would require an early 90s level of homicides of around 100 to do so. Or last September was homicide free in which case 60 should do the trick.

(OT) this from today's Tribune, looks like demoted security detail will get back pay and higher pensions! great job commander Thompson your a patrolman and you did this! Are you getting a big commanders pension after costing the city? Rahm your involved!Hillard and Thompson racism involved? Explosive! Now will hillard lose some of the millions in city contracts he is getting? Will Thompson be demoted and sued civility?

In his 17-page decision, U.S. District Judge Harry Leinenweber found "sufficient" evidence that Chicago police officials who assembled Emanuel's security team after he took office 2011 relied on a list compiled by a mayoral aide that included the names of six officers who volunteered in his campaign.

The judge also found merit to claims that Terry Hillard, who at the time was the interim police superintendent, and Brian Thompson, the head of the security unit, improperly assembled the new team based on race.

While Hillard and Thompson were the main decision-makers, the allegations surrounding one of Emanuel's first hires as mayor seemed to clash with the image he has tried to cultivate of taking politics out of city hiring.

Eleven white or Hispanic officers who served as security specialists to former Mayor Richard Daley brought the suit. None of the officers remained on Emanuel's security detail, despite their lengthy time on the job and consistently positive performance reviews, according to the lawsuit. However, four African-American officers with less seniority weren't demoted from the detail at the time.

The reassignments of the 11 officers resulted in pay cuts of $20,000 to $30,000 each, said Jonathan Ksiazek, the officers' attorney.

Ksiazek said he plans to argue that the officers who succeeded them were not qualified.

Well, I guess times have changed and there is more concern out there for black on black crime? Historically, shootings and murders are way down from what they were when I came on the job in the late 60's.I don't recall any outrage when the city had 900 plus homicides? I am a white guy and I believe that as long as the murders/shootings stay in the black and Hispanic areas no one really gives a shit. Even the black state legislators refused to go along with an increase in penalties for carrying a gun on the street if you are a gang member . White liberals actually believe ( more then one has actually said this to me)that there is no difference in crime between the black and white areas and the police are the ones who through their enforcement tactics just arrest more blacks. No one wants to talk about the crappy schools ( the teacher's union pays off the democrats), lack of public transportation to get out to the burbs where the jobs are, tougher laws to lock up the shooters, more drug clinics and residential treatment centers, more drug courts which work, and tax incentives to get people to build factories in the city. How about good job training and not those phony programs sponsored by the democrats which are nothing but payoffs for the political class ( remember 50 million from Gov Quinn, most of it unaccounted for). Lots to do but no one wants to do it. Just blame the police, fix them and all will be well. Just tell the police what they cannot do but never tell them what they can and should do to cut crime. The police are not the answer in the long run. If you are a drug user you are going to commit felonies to get money for drugs, you will get caught and with a record getting a good job will be next to impossible. It is a medical problem, not a police problem. Spend more money for treatment.

Well quit chasing people! What did you expect? Did you think that all of a sudden the department had your back and is looking out for your best interests? Did you ever try reading the general order on vehicle pursuits? It's scary how well written it is to absolve the department and leave the chasing officers twisting in the wind. Read it once, and if you have even one brain cell bouncing around in your skull, you'll never chase anyone again. Just goes to show how many brain dead officers we have on this job.

(OT) Keep working hard, look what McCarthy did to Commander Glenn Evans! 1 week before throwing him to the wolves he was taken to front of compstat group and praised gary said "This is the type of policing we want, crime going down, old school policing" think Evans was a clouted hard working boss, now we have Midlothian deputy chief getting 15 months in PRISON::

The former second in command at the Midlothian Police Department was sentenced to 15 months in prison Friday for repeatedly striking a man with a metal baton without legal justification outside a bar nearly four years ago.

Steven Zamiar, a 13-year veteran who rose to deputy police chief with the small south suburban department, nodded his head slightly as U.S. District Judge Sharon Johnson Coleman handed down a sentence far below what prosecutors sought.

In her ruling, Coleman said Zamiar abused the trust placed in him by the community when he chased after and beat James Snyder as drunken crowds spilled out of a popular tavern on Thanksgiving morning 2011. Snyder, who had been pointed out as a participant in an earlier fight inside the bar, suffered welts and bruises across his back and head.

"You crossed the line from being a trusted authority figure to being an officer out of control," Coleman told Zamiar as his wife and other relatives sobbed in the courtroom gallery.

But the judge said prosecutors were overreaching by seeking up to 71/2 years in prison, noting that even the victim didn't feel like a lengthy prison term was warranted. The judge quoted Snyder as telling court officials in a pre-sentencing report, "He kicked my ass, but I don't think he should spend 10 years in jail and ruin his life. It's not like he shot me."

Before the sentence was handed down, Zamiar, dressed in an orange prison jumpsuit and shackled at the ankles, wept as he apologized to his family, the community and Snyder

"My name will now be associated as part of a problem with law enforcement, and I am truly sorry for that," said Zamiar, pausing to lift his glasses and wipe his eyes with a tissue.

In arguing for a stiff sentence, Assistant U.S. Attorney Patrick Otlewski said that as a commanding officer, Zamiar was supposed to be setting an example for others on the force. Instead, his actions spoke of the arrogance of a cop who believes he's above the law, Otlewski said.

"He put on that display of power," Otlewski said. "He showed them who the law is. What sort of example does that set?"

A jury deliberated just two hours in December before convicting Zamiar of violating Snyder's civil rights by excessive force.

Zamiar testified at trial that Snyder had turned around during the chase and took a swing at him. But Zamiar's former underling, Sgt. Edmund Olmos, backed up Snyder's version of events, telling the jury that he saw Zamiar strike the man as he was trying to run for cover.

Zamiar has faced other allegations of abuse, Otlewski said. In one case, Zamiar was accused of kicking an armed robbery suspect in the face while he was on the ground in handcuffs. In another, Zamiar allegedly punched a teen vandal in the face repeatedly, blackening both of his eyes, the prosecutor said.

Court records show Zamiar was also accused in a 2007 lawsuit of giving a suspect a concussion while trying to arrest him.

On Friday, Zamiar's attorney, Damon Cheronis, accused the government of using rumors and other unproven allegations to try to "jack up" Zamiar's sentence.

Think, think,Think you lose freedom, pension, house, family get sued lose everything is it worth it? When i came on the job many said look at the "dog ass" coppers they are "lazy!" Yep lazy as they retire nicely, no high blood pressure less stress why bust your hump? For what a stupid pin? Not worth your lively hood!

Rahm and Mack are thanking the medical profession everyday for their work in keeping homicides down. Imagine if every shot gangbanger had to pay for his medical treatment BEFORE being treated, homicides would be way up...... actually wouldn't that lower medical costs?

Hey big bad journalists !! How about a story about how much money it costs treating gunshot victims in Chicago and how many of those "victims" actually pay their own costs or have insurance? How much money do these shootings and homicides cost the taxpayers? How much are the autopsies??

Now that would be a story. Instead of cutting back on police services, let's cut back on paramedics, firemen and medical personnel. We would save a ton of money -- maybe enough to bring the pensions closer to being fully funded.

Men short. " And I am sure that fact has "nothing" to do with our soaring homicide rate. Will they ever get control of crime in this city again ? Probably not, this city and this country has fallen victim to the sickness called political correctness and I don't see a politician on the horizon that has the stones to call a spade a spade and point the finger of blame at the spineless politicians ( can you say,too many persons of color in jail, Prepwincle) and the minorites that are committing all that crime.

Traffic pursuits: when the chase is terminated, the chase is over. If you continue chasing, anything that happens will be the result of you not following department orders......

Imagine the plaintiff's attorney asking you, the defendant in a federal civil rights lawsuit, about how you violated your department's general orders regarding vehicle pursuits. and then listen to how they twist that to make you appear to be an out-of-control officer without any regard for the law, your department or the public at large..... they will do that because that is their job. You do your job. They will do theirs. If the department wants you to let bad guys go when they flee, then let them go--because that is what you get paid to do.

It's funny to think back to the "good ol' days" when Phat Phil took off the gloves and told SOS to do whatever it took to stop "gangs, guns and drugs." There were lots of car chases and foot pursuits, lots of wrestling matches with bad guys, and lots of people going to jail. There was no VRI so if you wanted to make money, you had to make late arrests and make lots of felony arrests to get that felony court date. "Contact cards" were not the business of working police officers. Today's young officers have no idea what it was like to actually look for felony arrests everyday even up until the end of the tour. Cook County Jail was processing something like 300 arrestees per day at one time. .... But there were lots of CR numbers and lots of lawsuits. Then there were new orders like the TRRs. Remember the old paper arrest? There used to be a small box that said, "Resisted Arrest" and then you checked the yes or no box. And that was it. Not anymore. Speaking of paper, I remember complaining about those paper formsets with the carbon copies and how prehistoric the police department was still using carbon copies. But two officers could process all the paperwork for an arrest in under two hours. Nowadays with AIRA and slow computers, three to six hours seems to be the norm to complete an arrest. We got new weapons in the fight against crime--tasers. How many people still use the mace?? I used to love the smell of pepper spray in the humid air of a ghetto summer evening. Then we got the SOS scandal, which was only a small handful of officers, but otherwise the rest of those guys worked their butts off fighting crime and catching bad guys and what was their reward? What happened in the end? SOS got disbanded with a few gone to jail, no supervisor ever got into real trouble but rising star Tobias retired as soon as he hit 50. Phil retired and is still getting phat on his phat pension. ........ So when someone says to go "get 'em tiger, we got your back," think twice about that. They might say the gloves are off, but they are shouting from the gallery, while it is you in the ring.

Remember what you are paid to do, and that you are paid to do it within a certain set of parameters. Work within those parameters.

Be safe brothers and sisters.

Low turnout for FTO test. Don't pass up a great opportunity to train and mold the next generation police officer.

I'd rather look up my butt with a mirror.

I saw the writing on the wall after my 4th year. That was over 16 years ago. And now the countdown is a short one. It amazes me how many people have no life on this job. They eat sleep and think this job. Then they find an ass to kiss and hopefully get promoted. And then they think they are very successful. Then when they are 50 or 55 and burned out, they can't leave because they cant do anything else or are afraid to try. I won't even admit I was on this department after I leave.

Yesterday several POs we're served CRs for the chase that happened in 11 and 15. The allegation is that only 2 cars are allowed to pursue unless authorized by a supervisor. A lot more CRs being handed out this week. Thank you McCarthy.

The ol here's your honorable mention and by the way take 30 days with it. IM shocked the 2 hero cops that drove the baby that was shot the other night to the hospital didnt get written up.

Coppers will fight tooth and nail, back stab each other, sabotage each other, And go to great lengths just to get a start time or a certain car/beat.

But when it comes time to vote on a contract, or when we should be stomping the guts out of the FOP idiots, Coppers do nothing to stick together as a team. PATHETIC!

Nothing from the State's attorney, but we thought it was you! I have no criminal record, because my license plate was ONE digit off for whom they were looking for. Criminal justice system sucks!

Save that story for your friends, neighbors and family. It is ridiculous, unless there is WAY more to it.

Time to close financial crimes it was nice thought.

Don't care anymore. 005th district can go to hell.
Tired of all the nonsense from people sitting at desk jobs. Commander KJ is just as stupid as he looks. Poor leadership and very poor decisions making.
January can't get here fast enough.
If I stay in a fucking box or pull one event number for anything, they can kiss my ass.
Time for some changes.
I heard the Tact Lt left because he's tired of the BS.
More and more people will leave as well

"...Now that would be a story. Instead of cutting back on police services, let's cut back on paramedics, firemen and medical personnel. We would save a ton of money -- maybe enough to bring the pensions closer to being fully funded.

Say that when you are bleeding out or can't breathe.

BTW... did we ever get any A.E.D.s (Automatic External Defibrillator) in district stations.

I don't know Zamiar but if I recall correctly there were other Midlo cops testifying against him. I'm not sure he's your poster child for cops locked up while just doin' the job. It sounded like he actually had it coming but then again we all know how the paper can be.

"Overall Crime is Down?"

>Snicker!<

OK children...
Let a bitter, old, hate-filled,
openly rebellious, too quick
in resorting to heavy fists, steel-toed
boondocker boots and large caliber pistol-craft,
mean, unsmiling, out-of-control, wild-assed,
sole source of all the "problems" afflicting this city,
driven mad to the point of misanthropy, just trying
hang on to what he's earned in the face of so many who
deeply desire to see it taken from him out of some
misdirected, purposely hotted-up sense of resentment;
Chicago Blue Suit take a pause from his doomed cause
and clarify once and for all what "Overall Crime is Down"
actually means.

The REAL answer as to whether crime is down is a qualified yes,
but B U L L S H I T nonetheless...

The last several years has seen copious political, media and public relations
capital being conveyor-belted into the ovens along with you remaining tax paying
middle class churls, in an effort to redefine what a crime actually is...

Change and subvert the language.
Re-define what used to be commonly understood,
universally accepted by the layman; words and terms
in pursuit of political ends.

People KNOWING they're the victim of a crime being
Intentionally stymied by the institution they've been told
to report their victimization to in hope of perhaps having
the indignity of their victimization being assuaged somehow
and perhaps start the process in which the perpetrator(s) may
be laid hands upon and brought to justice.

Forcing good people to swallow their tears of outrage
in order to script a down-trending narrative.

When the apparatus for response has many institutional
stymies, side-tracks, shunts, pitfalls, doors-to-nowhere
and delays built into it to script the same down-trending narrative?

Weasel words.
Slippery syntax.
Prevarication as sound public policy.
Lies of omission.
Skewed narration.
Madly gyrating, ever changing,
cleverly parsed, clear as shit-mud
meanings and definitions.

Shit from the progressive play book being writ large on the walls...
Stinks like the very devil, doesn't it? And it's written too high so it's
beyond the reach of decent people to clean... By design...

The "cleansing device" is the ballot box and the Liberal Progressive/
Perpetual Grievant alliance have now hoisted said cleansing device
out of your reach to keep you from changing things.

They bank on you "nice," decent, hard-working, tax paying citizens to resist
your urge to become angered to the point of actually resorting to violence
to fight THEM back.

Now... Let's try this again.

"Overall Crime is Down."

Who are the keepers of the "answer key"
to what "Overall Crime" really means in this town?"

Who will benefit most from having the key?"

It isn't the Blue Suits who have to wade in the deep and caustic,
soul-staining, heart-hardening, bloody, corpse filled shit-mud flowing through
Chicago's streets.

It surely isn't the little person trying to time the ebb and flow of
the dreadful stuff so they can get in their door with their little bag
containing a handful of cans of 3rd rate tuna, a little squeezy-
bottle of mayo and a sprouted onion; before the tide sweeps
them away.

Viva Hate.
Protect Yourselves.
Police like you have no friends.

The mayor and the superintendent
are pandering cowards and liars
who in spite of their alleged smarts,
have no common sense answers
by which they can explain why this
city reclines in such riotous rot like
human skeletal remains in a
backyard catch basin...

Everybody in proximity smelled
the decay but didn't say/do shit
until it was too much, then they show up
to motherfuck The Police for taking the
lid off the damned thing and fishing the
gleefully grinning and rotting cadaver
out of the hole.

"Maddened Unto Misanthropy"
is a phrase we recently encountered.

Somehow... It resonates.

Perhaps a refresher course is needed for the ">" and "<" signs. I always screw those up, too. Anyone out there have a 3rd Grader than can give us quick online tutoring session?

Can't put them here, they don't print out so: 'left arrow BR right arrow' = linebreak

Left arrow B right arrow = Bold font

left arrow /B right arrow = Bold font off...
i is italic and a indicates a link..

OT but, are any of you guys aware that Judge Joseph Claps is violating officer's rights and the FLOP and the OLA is standing by and letting it happen. On a recent motion to suppress his confession, a defendant claimed that he only confessed because he was beaten. Claps then points out two detectives in the courtroom and asks the defendant if these are the officers who beat you. When he says no, the judge sends an order to the police department to produce photos of every officer involved in the arrest, presumably to conduct a photo array on the next court date. WTF, where is the FOP on this? Where is the ACLU? Policeman dont have any rights?

Apparently you never checked that box. When checked the W/C had to do a package. The only out was if you charged them with city resisting.

Claps is the most arrogant, unprofessional judge I've ever seen. I had a case in his room where he cross examined me, rather than allowing the defense do it. He tries to intimidate everyone in his courtroom, especially law enforcement. He is an absolute disgrace to the bench.

The department went to hell when college was mandated for a cop job. Ambitious supervisors with no confidence or leadership skills, just ambition. A college education does not qualify one for a big city cop job. There is the tv cop , the schooled cop and the street smart cop. Probably less then 10% of today's coppers are street smart. whole bunch of phoneies on this job and department would be better off if they went back to Macdonalds!
