- The University of Chicago announced Sunday that all classes and other activities planned for Monday on its Hyde Park campus will be canceled after FBI counterterrorism officials informed the university of a gun violence threat to the campus.
University President Robert Zimmer sent an email to students and staff warning them of a threat posted online by an unknown individual, which specifically mentioned "the campus quad" at 10 a.m. Monday. Zimmer asked staff and faculty members who do not have emergency duties or patient care responsibilities to not come to the Hyde Park campus. Students who reside on campus were told to contact their resident heads and "to remain indoors as much as possible if they are on campus."
"Based on the FBI's assessment of this threat and recent tragic events at other campuses across the country, we have decided in consultation with federal and local law enforcement officials, to exercise caution by canceling all classes and activities on the Hyde Park campus through midnight on Monday," Zimmer said in the email.
Target the president's last known neighborhood, his employer, his wife's "employer," his political cradle, the birthplace of the atomic bomb, etc. It's a natural target. Of course, this doesn't mean it couldn't be a feint of some sort and something would happen somewhere else. Stay alert.

The message mentioned that police with visible weapons will be in the area. That must really piss them off after protesting against the police. Will they be staring down those cops too? Due to Baltimore-style city policy of tolerating protesters' "We run this shit!" there were very few arrests in the Loop over the weekend -- but at least two of them were from Hyde Park. (Guy caught with the Taser and a knife was from California, we had screamers coming down here from Detroit, etc.)
Before the 1968 Democratic National Convention, I watched the neighborhood fill up with additional standard-issue hippies, VW microbuses with peace signs and New York plates disgorging loads of them with rolled-up sleeping bags under their arms, coming in to "crash" communally before hitting the riots.
It's always been like that there, and after Black Friday, a lot of them are probably still all hotted-up about their great victories in preventing people from going shopping, and are now passing the bong and looking for something else to do.
If anything turns up on this, the FBI can contact the CCSPD, who will be told by the new Attorney General to go Ferguson and remove their badges, leave "militarized" gear at the station, and go wandering around "striking up a rapport."
Chicago Police are to be "put under black community control" and "de-funded," right? So don't be burning up the wires to 911 about anything. #BLM is your go-to now. Not to worry -- they will spit and stare and bullhorn any threat right to its knees.

Wife works at the hospital there and she got a call early am from her manager who stated to quickly park in garage, the hospital will comp all expenses ($25) in the name of safety.
I wouldn't put it passed a member of the generation currently college aged to be so self centered as to make a threat to get more time on big test. These kids are so cra-cra and aloof they wouldn't think twice of doing such a thing. See the situation at Mizzou as an example.

Eh, calling this a strike at Obama is a stretch, based on current information. The guy hasn't worked at UC for 8 years, so attacking it now would seem kind of slow to the punch, don't you think? Anyway, if you go anywhere in the world and mention UC, it's associated less with Obama than with Milton Friedman and the Chicago school of economics, best known for influencing conservative and libertarian thought and policies. It's not really clear to me what political point would be made by attacking UC's campus, and the quad no less. UC Law is home to the prof who went viral a few years back for whining about how it's hard to live on $450k. The business school is home of Eugene Fama, father of efficient market theory. UC isn't exactly a bastion of liberal thought.

So, I read the Washington Post article and I call it B.S.. The reporter says she walks into a station and gets the bad vibes from the wall of desk officers (white of course to 'hot up' her story) that she just has to complain to the big exempt from New York. She says she has the eduction and can deal with officers, but how about the uneducated masses? (my words.) Then she won't identify the station or the personnel involved because it's more about 'the culture' than an individuals behavior. So she puts herself out front saying it happened, and you can't disprove it because she won't give any information so as to determine where, when, or who, was involved; or if it happened at all! Since the DSS orders arrived, her biggest beef should have been that there's more than one P.O. on the desk and no white shirts around. And that's my point, one P.O. is a wall of officers in her mind. Given her agenda, no officer (especially one on the desk getting walk-in's all shift long) could ever have the right 'educated' and 'cultured' perspective for her 30 second spot check. The desk crew failed her quiz; the one that she meant the desk crew to fail, shocking. Men and Women of the Chicago Police Department: you are the best, you serve the community very well, the anti-police bent of politics will go away when the Dem's are out of the White House. Lonnae O'Neal is the author. In her picture she appears to be white, I suppose she possibly is light skinned african american. Maybe she is biracial, maybe she has identity issues, I don't know nor do I care. Anyway Ms. O'Neal, let me assure you that the contempt you may have perceived would have only been as a member of the least ethical vocation there is, journalism. And we have been relentlessly beaten by our media here in Chicago for a good eight years.
Generally speaking, white officers have always been well received by decent African Americans, regardless of their economic stature. In days of old many a time did african americans refuse service from black officers, asking for the "real police". I'm sure Lonnae will read some type of bullshit police culture of oppression angle into that.
I'm in no way disparaging my black brothers and sisters on this job, but there are some black people who feel they get a better interaction with white officers. Now for the bad guys, they love to play the race card to the media, and sometimes they will try that shit with white officers and even black officers. But most of the time after they've calmed down and accepted they got caught fair and square they back off of that.
I do find it amusing that a reporter from one of the most crime ridden, violent cities in America came here to do an article on gun violence. Articles I have read on the DC Police have claimed that morale has been so low for years that drug sales go on in front of marked police vehicles and no enforcement takes place. C.P.D. has continued to work to get guns off the street despite being literally handcuffed while trying to do our job. But I understand where Lonnae is coming from, the better we do our job, the more crime goes down and less reporters are needed.

Valerie Jarrett and her tyros - Barack & Michelle - have been bent on destroying Washington Park - to enhance the value of Jarrett's slum properties? - since their suggestion that the Olympic stadium be located there. Now Washington Park is slated to be the "home" of Obama's "library" because UC suffers from Ivy-Envy; it wants a "Kennedy Center" in the worst way. At least the Kennedys went to Harvard. None of these three inadequates went to the University. Alas,their arrogance and narcissism know no bounds. The destruction of Chicago's public park system - that's something to get agitated about. Arrest made of an individual wanting to kill white Devils. So he wanted to target a college campus that is already a frequent target of criminals from the surrounding communities. Sheep who are already an easy target for strong arms, sexual assault, car thefts and burglaries.

"CHICAGO (AP) — Federal authorities said an online threat that led the University of Chicago to cancel classes Monday targeted whites and was motivated by the police shooting of a black teenager, video of which was released last week and led to protests.
"Jabari R. Dean, 21, of Chicago, threatened to kill 16 white male students or staff at the school on Chicago's South Side, according to the criminal complaint.
"Dean, who is black, was arrested Monday morning. He did not enter a plea later in the day on a charge of transmitting a threat in interstate commerce in court.
"Dean posted online from a phone that he would "execute approximately ... 16 white male students and or staff, which is the same number of time (sic) McDonald was killed" and "will die killing any number of white policemen that I can in the process."
"The criminal complaint said someone tipped the FBI Sunday to a threat that was posted on a social media website. The FBI was unable to find the threat online, and was provided a screenshot by the person who reported the threat.
"That led them to Dean, who admitted to FBI agents that he posted the threat and took it down shortly after posting it, the complaint said. Despite the threat mentioning three guns, a prosecutor told Monday's hearing that Dean did not appear to pose a threat. The complaint did not say whether Dean possessed any weapons.
"Dean is a first-year undergraduate student in electrical engineering at the University of Illinois at Chicago, UIC spokeswoman Sherri McGinnis Gonzalez. He wore a red sweat shirt emblazoned with the name of that school in court.
"Phillip Rutherford, who later identified himself as Jabari's uncle, said loudly in the courtroom as the hearing adjourned, "Hey Jabari. ... Just be cool, OK?"
