And Speaking of Football...

  • More guns are needed at NFL games to keep fans safe, according to the nation's largest police union -- which recently asked the league commissioner to let certain firearms owners pack heat on Sundays.

The National Fraternal Order of Police has asked the NFL to lift its ban on fans carrying guns at games, at least for retired and off-duty law enforcement officers who hold permits to carry concealed weapons. In a letter to Commissioner Roger Goodell, FOP President Chuck Canterbury said armed cops are the best bet for stopping a terrorist attack inside a stadium.

“Today, I am writing on behalf of the members of the Fraternal Order of Police to urge you to rescind this policy, which weakens the safety and security of NFL players, personnel and fans,” read the Nov. 20 letter, which was reported by BuckeyeFirearms.org. “The terrorist attacks and threats of attacks from organizations like the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) are selecting targets based on the amount of death and injury they can inflict -- mass murder and casualty events.
Because you know, it just wouldn't make sense to have a bunch of trained First Responders on hand in the event of a Paris-like attack. The NFL responded thus:
  • The decision to allow or ban guns at games was up to teams or venues before a league-wide directive prior to the 2014 season. NFL officials said the no-gun policy was reached after an extensive process that included consultation with a multitude of law enforcement agencies and security experts. If the league were to reverse its prohibition, the decision would apparently revert to the teams and stadium operators.

“We concluded that public safety inside NFL stadiums on game days would be best-served by the carrying of firearms by on-duty officers specifically assigned to work the game as part of the comprehensive public safety plan for the event,” NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy told FoxNews.com “This approach has been certified by the Department of Homeland Security under the SAFETY Act (Support Anti-Terrorism by Fostering Effective Technologies).”
Sure, because the Department of Homeland Security could never ever be influenced by the politics of their boss, the most anti-gun, anti-reality president in history. You know he can't even be bothered to utter the words "radical Islam" or "Islamic terrorism," even in the case of the California shooters who were both, according to their published words and deeds?

Texas overruled the NFL, declaring that State Law trumps NFL policy. As many stadiums are paid for with public money, bonds backed by taxpayers, or some form of creative financing that avails the team ownership of public money, perhaps the FOP would be more successful applying the respective state laws to the situation.

And if the NFL wanted to get ahead of the game, how about this? Off-duty officers carrying a gun report to one or two locations, say the north and south end zones gates. They're given a "color of the day" cap to put inside their jacket. They wouldn't be allowed to drink (duh!), but should the unthinkable happen, they can report to their rally point, and bingo, a sworn (and armed) response force inside the building for security, crowd control, whatever. You want to go to the game and drink, you're ineligible and unarmed. But if you're a responsible off-duty guy or gal who happens to be enjoying the game in a giant soft-target, why not?

So the head of the national FOP got involved with an issue and took some action? Quite a difference from Queen Dean who just takes direction from an emperor who is down half a digit.

Since they're so against an armed presence, perhaps they should no longer receive armed, lights and siren escorts for visiting teams leaving the stadium

Good idea but I will decline. I would rather drink and watch Bears lose. Have you Seen the stellar security force there at Soldier Field? Must have thousands of highly trained personnel present. They are very prepared....

So...While Law Enforcement (active, or retired) engages the enemy, and during the firefight, the 200-300Lb players can scramble back to their locker room? Unacceptable! I want trained Law Enforcement with Assault Style Weapons at every game. That will put a stop to it...

Here is an even better idea. Stop going to the stadiums and filling the pockets of these guys with your money. Stay home and watch the game with family and friends. Go to a bar and watch the game with family and friends. It's a hell of a lot cheaper and you won't become a target.

Roger Goodell is an asshole.

His gun ban for cops has zero to do with safety. He's just kissing the asses of the anti-gun, anti-police, 'liberals' he has cocktails with in 'Noo Yuk Shity' (they ain't liberals, fucking Stalinists is what they are!) .

Hell if he allowed Cops to carry their guns at games that may upset 'the elite' and he might not get invited to Missy's Coming Out Cotillion at the Plaza. And we can't have that, now can we?

Can't speak for Wrigley or Comiskey. Haven't been there in years. Last summer visited family in St. Louis and went to a baseball game. It was just like SCC said. You reported to a certain gate, showed ID and ticket, and went in. St Louis cop checking ID acted happy to see you.

Let me get this straight. I'm paying out of pocket to attended a game that's played by millionaire and owed by billionaire. And if there's an issue, I'm supposed to mobilize and mount a defensive response. How about creat an over time initiative, and strategically placing manpower at key positions. By the I personally won't spend my hard earned pennies to attend NFL and NBA games.Like the show the Shark Tank...for these Reasons..I'm out.

I don't support these teams where thugs in jerseys get paid millions, but...I can't image our selfish co-workers giving up beer in the name of security, sad but true...too many lushes on this job. On a side note. Never mind our inept Cpd leadership. It has been a week since the attacks, I have seen zero interest in the coppers I work with in regards to getting rifle training, being more prepared, etc. Guys and supervisors still aren't carrying them although qualified and required. Pretty pathetic, a lot of us on this job have our heads way too far up our asses to see reality. Complacent and dangerous. I work in 017, I can count 1 or 2 guys on 3rd watch that have rifles on the street, guess what guys, and I'm talking to you bozos in the nice districts who are in denial, they're not going to hit the ghetto, they're going to hit OUR areas. Wake up!!! Your IT when it happens. And if your still a revolver guy, sorry, unless your retiring this week, time to upgrade, your not doing anyone a favor with your 18 bullets and 6 second reloads.

In the last ten years I have slowly evolved to fit today's PC world. I stopped going to public venues that don't allow me to carry.

On the very few occasions I really have to go, I am in a different frame of mind. If something happens, I am no longer and armed first responder. I am Joe Citizen and will be looking to get myself out. I am not heartless, I will still do what I can, but that aint much unarmed.

Should allow off duty and retired to carry and i would respond to
A terrorist attack but im not volunteering my security services
To go along with the ticket and parking i paid for.

You will, well some of you anyway, will be issued a firearm when you start you're tour and turn it in at end of the watch. You will not be allowed to own any firearms,no one will. This will make America safer....from you savage killers (Police) and NRA right wing nut jobs (lawful gun owners). At first you will be allowed to stay armed until you have completed the confiscation details on the citizens. Ten years ago I would have suggested a tin foil hat and a BCX for anyone even suggesting this...not today.God bless America,Her people, the Military and Police. P.S.how many of you will accept the above confiscation detail ?

They'll never "win" the argument, because they're wrong. If you think an attack on a stadium would sway the anti-gun fools in favor of guns at sporting events, tell me how many of them have advocated arming anyone in other "gun-free" zones after attacks occurred there. Movie theaters and school campuses have had mass shootings, yet the only cries we hear from the anti-gun crowd are for more gun control. It's already pretty damn illegal to shoot/kill a bunch of people. It's even more illegal to do so in an area where guns aren't allowed. Perhaps these mass murdering shitbags/psychopaths don't exactly give a flying fuck about the laws governing guns and murder. Perhaps the same can be said for our gang members who keep killing each other, despite the laws against using their illegal guns to illegally kill people. Common sense tells us gun laws don't prevent gun crimes. Add in wonderful Cook County, where gun offenders are treated as if they accidentally took a piece of candy from the corner store without paying, then released back onto the streets to re-offend, and even the existing laws don't mean a fucking thing. Anti-gun morons won't be swayed to the sensible side, no matter what happens. Nonsensical viewpoints with absolutely no basis in reality or common sense can't be changed using logic or examples that disprove them. If I sit here staring at a blue sky and proclaiming that it's orange, what can you do to convince me I'm wrong? The facts are plainly laid out before me, yet I choose to ignore them and assert that the facts are incorrect. That's the problem with the anti-gun crowd. They ignore facts and evidence and common sense, because it doesn't fit their argument. Then they argue loud enough, and in large enough numbers, and with the backing of high-powered elected officials, and famous people. This helps reinforce their erroneous idea that their warped views are correct. You can't fix stupid.

Saw posts with the comment " when a stadium is attacked". What about Paris three weeks ago with the French President in attendance? After watching the NBA players with the can't breathe shirts - most of us wouldn't want to take action for these sports franchises.
Your plan has merit for those willing to refrain from alcohol.

The major sports venues have bought and paid for the CPD Exempts. Look for them down on the field or on the glass. The Exempts provide the free police officers, K9 and traffic management.

This is all done on YOUR tax dollar.

The Bears certainly could have used some guns during their game against the 49ers yesterday. Back in the early days of professional football, Billy "The Gun" Van Goff used them to great advantage against opposing teams.

Here's some archival footage of Van Goff in action:
