Live Where?

  • In the months leading up to filing day, Chicago lawyer Travis Richardson did a variety of things to run for Cook County judge.

Renting a house in the Brainerd neighborhood, he changed his driver’s license as well as auto and voter registrations to reflect the place he now called home — about a mile and a half from his Beverly house for the past 14 years, a residence he still owned and where the rest of his family still lived.

But when an elections official asked late last year whether Richardson had talked with his wife about selling their Beverly home, Richardson said “no,” an answer that briefly appeared to jeopardize the lawyer’s candidacy.

The hearing officer, who was considering whether Richardson was eligible to run following challenges to his nominating paperwork, said the “no” answer was a “crucial problem” and recommended the lawyer’s name be removed from the March 15 primary ballot because he questioned whether the candidate truly intended to leave the home he owned and where his family remained. Richardson was not divorced, separated or estranged from his wife, the hearing officer wrote.
Seems like a lot of people don't want to live in certain parts of Chicago for some reason.

But those people who pretend to live there, once in office, will happily force other city workers to have a residency requirement. Cause reasons.

All he needed to do was put his wife's dress in the new home for complete residency assurance. Cheez.

Kind of like that Gonzalez criminal that ran against Madigan. He moved into the area and rented an apartment about a year before the primary as well.

If this heats up, he can always Section 8 the nice place out and use the rental income to armor-plate the crappy one and dig in there, but you know he won't like it...

Easier to just tell them you're "estranged." No law against that.

Just throw a wedding dress up in the attic and put some "GOLAN MOVERS" boxes in the basement, and point at "my expensive light fixtures that are here."

It worked for Rahm.

Same way Rottner lived in Lincolnwood and a plethora of other city workers who flaunted the residency issue because they were the clouted elite. Nothing new here, move along.

Didn't Kuzas the lawyer for Sgts association do same thing to get elected judge?
he was cop before law school. Lived on Sheridan road up north but gets elected
on westside no a judge in Daley traffic court. He beat residency in a police board case too.

Rham killed residency when he first ran for mayor but the law still chases the workers just to lose it.

I cannot wait to get out of this shit hole city.

NYPD don't have residency. LAPD don't have residency. Haha, CICERO ILLINOIS don't have residency. But you chooches still live with this.

"We can't lift residency, the value of my house that I dumped a hundred grand into thinking I was a real estate mogul would tank."

Good thing you guys still think that way. Last time I checked, real estate in NY and LA didn't tank because coppers don't have to live there.

You guys don't even have to negotiate with the City to lift residency, you can probably get the law overturned as unconstitutional if you challenge it in court.

Sheesh, all you have to do is threaten the City that you're going to fight residency and you got yourselves a powerful bargaining chip.

Good thing youse guys are the way you are. City's got nothing to worry about with you boys and girls.

Yep! I received one too. I would suggest that everyonesend them back by registered mail since your pension will not be paid if it's not returned by a certain date. What has always been part of the job to protect yourself: Document, document, document.

If this lawyer isn't bright enough to say "I am going to rent out the home that I own, and move my family into the house I just rented", then he is no where near smart enough to be a judge.

Which is just sooooo typical for Cook County.

Call the next case. Not a cop.

Residency can be over turned. It has been deemed unconstitutional in many other municipalities... God forbid we came together to "demand" it be lifted...

Quit bitching and complaining about something you know nothing about. It's no big conspiracy. I've been retired 10 years and the pension board has sent them out periodically. They do this jus to verify if you are alive because there have been times po's die and either the family didn't notify the pension or the deceased had no family. It no big deal, just a check and balance. Now find something else to worry and bitch about

Not the first one I got. Pension board does it because they are not always notified of an officers death, especially if he is living out of state
Will tell you one thing. If you get one sign and return it it. A few years back a friend of mine, a retired captain basically said screw them and didn't return it said what I they going to do to me
A few of us guys had a laugh the next month when he was crying that he didn't get his pension check
