Change the Lies

So your lawsuit doesn't have any chance in hell based on the facts at hand? No problem - blame the mayor:
  • The family of a 16-year-old boy fatally shot by Chicago police during a chase on the West Side last month filed an amended wrongful death lawsuit Thursday naming the officers allegedly involved and noting Mayor Rahm Emanuel's anticipated testimony about the police code of silence in an upcoming federal civil rights trial.

The suit alleges the officers conspired with one another to give "false, misleading and incomplete versions" of the incident to make it look like they were in imminent danger.

In alleging the city has a "pattern and practice" of covering up wrongdoing by officers who have shot civilians, the lawsuit refers to Emanuel's speech to the City Council in December when he called for an end to the code of silence that he described as "the tendency to ignore, deny or in some cases cover up the bad actions of a colleague."
This was the dead jagoff who had numerous Facebook posts of himself with guns, wrote songs about guns, broadcast his drug dealing and use of guns, and who died after pointing one of those very guns at the police.

Oh yeah, and the autopsy showed he was shot in the chest, facing the officer.

But since Rahm claims he knows something about a "code," the family is trying a "do-over" in court and altering their version of events. In fact, we'll bet $1, right here and now, that this is a blatant attempt to get Rahm on the stand. And when the Corp Counsel fights this, the lawyer goes to the press again and screeches about a "cover-up." Nothing reality based - the offender was still a gangbanger with a gun shot dead center in the front of his body facing his intended victim. But in order to avoid having the mayor testify about something his lawyers are stipulating exists elsewhere, a settlement may suddenly appear....for a completely justified shooting.

We think it's time for the officers to counter-sue once again, the way the other officer done for the shooting on Erie.

This is SO amazing to see these people try to sue on this case.

O.T. - Pete, if you're going to go on tv to defend the police, please try to stay focused. Your answers are all over the place, you answer questions that aren't asked and you use imprecise language.

You said there's no code of silence, then you said there was. You said a few people have a code of silence, then you blanketed the department with it.

What was the point of talking about quitting IAD? If you meant to say there's a different standard at the highest ranks, that the gold stars have their own agenda (which is NOT a code of silence; it's CLOUT and personal advancement), then that's what you should have said. What you actually did say sounded a whole lot like you verified there IS a code of silence.

As for what your 'advisory position' is with regard to the pending case, your explanation of it was clear as mud. Are you working with the plaintiffs against the department?

You had a perfect opportunity to tell people what you witnessed during your time in General. Did you see a pattern of cases where some code of silence was evident? No, you didn't. You saw po's filing complaints on other officers. You saw officers give truthful evidence against one another, reluctantly, but doing it nonetheless. The only place there was anything resembling a code of silence was when an officer or two or three deliberately set out to do something illegal, and they kept it private and personal; there wasn't a huge conspiracy of dozens or hundreds of police officers involved.

This wasn't sitting around, shooting bull with Kass on the radio. This was Chicago Tonight, and you had an opportunity to make a difference.

Not a bad strategy. The lawyers are scum, but smart. Rahm will likely order the city to settle rather than allow him to be embarrassed on the stand or even in a deposition.

Called the Channel 7 newsroom yesterday after seeing their story and asked them why they didn't post the Facebook thug photos of the deceased. Jagoff we talked to said they would "pass that along."

Go fuck yourself Channel 7.

Absolutely agree 100% very sound advice continue to counter sue and take the time off to heal mentally. I still have dreams of my shooting that occurred approximately fifteen years ago. The only difference is my mutt didn't succumb to the three, black talon 45. caliber rounds which unfortunately struck non vital organs. My nightmare is that he didn't die......

Counter suing is an excellent idea. If the city settles the Assholes have Assets.

The city will pay. They always do. Why does the city have all these lawyers on the payroll, yet they do nothing?

Some of the older guys will remember this:
When the FOP started up the legal defense fund, one of the ideas touted was for the FOP to back the officer in a slander or counter suit.
Gee, what happened to all that money we still pay for every month?

does this mean that, in the future, any time someone is shot by the police, the "family" of the now ventilated can get a lawyer, and have the lawyer sue the city, claiming that there was a cover up, and demand that Rahm testify as the "code" that he claims exists?

If so, Rahm would likely just want to settle every time, rather than appear at a trial.

if this is the case, Rahm opened up Pandora's Box and the attorneys will celebrate for years.

Asshole Rahm opened this Pandora's box.
When the city starts increasing the number of payouts due to Rahm's huge brain fart while pandering...... that of course will be our fault not Rahm's.

The family is way too ignorant to demand anything.
It's the Loevy's (lawyers) doing the lying on their financial behalf.
Counter suits work wonders, you'll never know when that family will eventually win a GhettoLotto and putting a judgement on them is the way to collect on their estate.
So pay attention if anyone out there was injured in the chase, even emotionally.
That family put us and the city in harms way, yet they want no responsibility, just 70% free money (30% for attorney).
File a lawsuit against anyone and liens on their properties that cause you any injury.
We have to start Winning Again.

SCC don't encourage the sheep by saying he was shot in the chest. If he has a gun and points it at officers, we can shoot him anywhere on his body. If he turns immediately after pointing said weapon then he gets shot in the back. Completely justified and legal, there is no restriction on where we have to shoot a deadly threat to us. The best idea is not to point a gun at the police. Your day tends to go downhill from there.

Escaping while armed with a deadly weapon poses a threat to the community and Illinois law allows the officer to use deadly force to stop the escape. I know Preckwinkle and Foxx want this changed, but it is now the law. However, a department rule violation could get a person fired, but not prosecuted.
