This Asshole Again?

Just weeks ago, this asshat was railing against what he called the "self-appointed" Friends of the Parks for daring to criticize a multi-billionaire who wanted to build an Ego Monument to himself on our lakefront. The billionaire was shoveling money at the bought-and-paid-for asshole solely for his bully pulpit.

Now once again, he wants to negotiate a labor contract, in effect "self-appointing" himself to this position in place of elected officials and in essence, having zero standing at all:
  • Activist priest Father Michael Pfleger is calling for an overhaul of Chicago police contracts and for someone outside the Mayor Rahm Emanuel's administration to represent the public in negotiations with the Fraternal Order of Police union.

"We must make sure this bargaining agreement being done now does not protect the bad cop," Pfleger said Tuesday.
How, pray tell, does any contract protect the so-called "bad cop"? Guaranteeing due process? Protecting them from the lynching? Ensuring that Rights are not trampled by politicians catering to the whims of the mob?
  • With Rev. Jesse Jackson at his side, Pfleger called on Emanuel to include public representatives - aldermen perhaps - in negotiations with the police union.
Oh lordy, someone wheeled Jesse out of irrelevancy. Guess the #blm people were busy commuting to/from Milwaukee instead of stealing Jesse's microphone like last time.
  • How Chicago police are investigated and disciplined is largely governed by past labor agreements negotiated by city lawyers.

"The community is the one that suffers if the union agreement is something that protects bad officers," Pfleger said.

"Make the rules transparent for the people. I hope the mayor will hear our moral appeal," Jackson said.
And the officer suffers if the rules aren't applied equally and fairly across the board. Has this happened in the past? Nope, that's why there's a Contract - the City always operated (and continues to operate) in bad faith. If everyone operated on the up-and-up, there would be little need to spell out exactly how an investigation is expected to proceed. But that doesn't happen, so lawyers have to walk the City through the proper procedures.
  • The activists said the union contract not only makes it difficult for citizens to complain about police misconduct, but it also does not allow the department to reward police officers who act as whistleblowers. Additionally, under the current union agreement most officer disciplinary records are destroyed after five years.
Um...difficult how? By placing your name to a Complaint and swearing that it's true? That's kind of a requirement to get any sort of conviction in Criminal Court and a regular occurrence in Civil Court when giving testimony. So the "community" doesn't want to swear to tell the truth? How odd.

And if these assholes haven't been paying attention, that "destroyed after five years" bullshit? Yeah, the City violated that part of the Contract nine ways to Sunday - they've been releasing CR files dating all the way back to the 1960's just last month - long before we were even born. And the Courts just issued an injunction barring any/all destruction of files due to the D.O.J. inquires and investigations, but you can't expect the media to actually pay attention to facts.

Someone needs to put this cockroach in his place. Someone representing the rank-and-file. Something along the lines of:
  • "The FOP negotiates with the City representatives and lawyers, not some "self appointed" windbag who sells his voice to the highest bidder. The negotiated contract is submitted to the duly elected representatives of the City of Chicago, who receive input from their constituents via normal channels and then the entire package is voted upon by the City Council."
Then someone can call Blase and remind him about the separation of Church and State and minding his flock.

I am sure every parishioner gets an envelope addressed to them at their house which contains several months of pre printed collection envelopes for your weekly basket drop. Each week mail one to Blase with a little note in it stating they will remain empty until this non-priest is removed. Since when did priests turn into politicians ?

The 'community' (whatever that means) elected Rahm Emanuel and his merry band of aldermen to represent their interests in what is referred to as a 'general election'.

If they don't like who's representing them at the bargaining table, they should vote other officials into office. That's how this system works. Period.

Fuck with the contract and really force the police to go fetal. Answer the call, write paper documenting a crime having taken place, Rahm will like that, and make an arrest when a citizen is the complainant. Oh, and as far as movers, parkers and ANOVs, cops will not have seen any. Any don't even think about seeing any curfews or school absentees. Impounds will dry up.

The city should be very careful about what door they want to open, for it will swing both ways. The city won't like what happens when the door swings back towards it.

...and this has what to do with the business of the Catholic Archdiocese, exactly?

This one miserable little f__k has become Dictator For Life at St. Sabina's, in violation of the Church's own guidelines on how long a pastor should stay -- guidelines that were put in place to prevent exactly this sort of personal empire-building, exactly this sort of "cult of personality" that has developed there. Why is this extraordinary exception being made for Pfleger? Total silence from one Archbishop after another.

Time to either call the moving van for this guy or for everyone to find an alternative to Catholic institutions here.

When it comes right down to it, God can hear us just fine. We don't need Pfleger to intercede.

Nobody is indispensable.

"Why is this extraordinary exception being made for Pfleger?"

8/18/2016 05:10:00 AM

Because the Archdiocese is scared s__tless of the cult that they have allowed to grow up around him. The place is more of an Operation PUSH than a church by now, with a lot of congregants being attracted more by the racial politics and the bright lights and loud noises than anything else.

Can you imagine the huge "it's racism!" stink that will ensue upon Pfleger's removal? A whole big generic, one-size-fits-all BLM-style response, with signs and bullhorns and chanting and wailing and flopping around and candles and teddy bears and ribbons, cameo appearances by professional victims like the "Gentle Giant's" mother and her whole chorus line -- maybe even actual civil disorders, with Pfleger standing safely in the rear, waving his arms and affecting to "calm the waters" while loving every minute of it.

Exactly what the Church's guidelines were designed to prevent in the first place.

No matter. Right is right, and wrong is wrong.

"Pfleger is wrong, been there too long, gotta go, gotta go, gotta go!"

§304 COMPLETION OF SECOND TERM

§304.1. Policy Ordinarily, a pastor will serve no more than two consecutive six-year terms as pastor in a specific pastorate.

Procedures

Upon completing his 12th year as pastor in a specific parish, a pastor will be expected to accept a new assignment. With the advice of the Episcopal Council and the Board and under exceptional circumstances, the Archbishop may renew the term for a full six years or allow it to extend for a shorter period in accord with canon 186. While not sufficient to result in an automatic extension, the following factors may be adequate reasons to consider a waiver of the ordinary policy:
a) Parish Situation. Unique circumstances in the life of a parish.
b) Age. A pastor who will be age 64 or older at the time of completion of his second term as pastor.
c) Cultural Needs. Foreign language proficiency, cultural awareness, and other ethnic, racial or cultural considerations.
d) Special Project. A special project within the parish, such as a fund drive that is about to be started or is already in progress, the construction of a new building, etc. In these instances, consideration ordinarily will be given to extending the term for a specified period of less than six years.
e) Health. A particular health problem of the requesting pastor.

http://policy.archchicago.org/LinkClick.aspx?fileticket=dkWNXr-ABCY%3d&tabid=10167

So what are the "unique circumstances in the life of St. Sabina's?"

So what are the "foreign language proficiency, cultural awareness, and other ethnic, racial or cultural considerations" that make Pfleger and only Pfleger uniquely qualified to celebrate Mass?

Explain, please.

As for Cupich, he made it clear almost as soon as he arrived in Chicago that he supports Mr. Pfleger.

Whoever is the first person to get a copy of St.Sabinas budget should post it.

Years ago I was talking to my parish priest and I asked him why doesn't the Cardinal do something about Phaker. The Father told me that St. Sabina brings in more money then any other parish in the Arch diocese and is the only parish that doesn't receive any money from the Arch diocese to operate. Moreover, that parish brings in so much money that the tuition for the Catholic school there is FREE. Maybe that is why Phaker is still there. That being said, maybe Blase should take a good look at the guy and realize Phaker is doing more harm then good.

That's bullshit. Several parishes on the SW side of the City do not take any money from the archdiocese. They pay for and maintain their parishes on their own and then send several hundreds of thousands of dollars to the archdiocese to help with poorer parishes. We need to stop sending money downtown. That will send a messege. Especially parishes like Cajetans, Queen of Martyrs, St. barnabas, Sait John Fisher and Christ the King. All heavily pro police parishes. Stop sending money downtown. Send a messege.

Because he is one of the most reliable 'apologists" for the folks in "black community," his removal by the Church would almost be guaranteed to set off the kind of social reaction (street rioting) that might end up in the burning of churches. There is no way that the diocesan leaders would ever take that chance and incur that level of risk.

"Rockefeller?

"Any way to follow the money?"

Ask for an accounting of the doings of our city's "Chief Resiliency Officer" -- a Rockefeller-salaried insert into our City Hall -- whom I understand is some kind of glorified drainage engineer.

We know that he's there. The initial press release told us as much. Nothing since.

We are watching closely, and we'll get back to you. Or you get back to us, if you first figure out whatever the f__k he actually does for a living.

"Even money says the people funding him are not even Catholic. Possibly some Philanthropic Foundations like Tides, Ford or Rockerfeller? [sic]

You got the names, more or less. We posted links to two or three professionally-written, intensely-detailed analyses here.

Took all of two-three minutes.

You're interested in the subject, your turn to lift a finger and dig.

Finis.

Let us know what you find. Really.

Taking the contract out of the picture could someone please explain to these self appointed ass-clowns that the Illinois Peace Officers Bill of Rights dictates how we conduct investigations into alleged police misconduct?

You know, this discussion had a part in a walk I took Friday afternoon. The idea had been in the back of my head for years anyway.

Still a little zitzed from the night before, no sleep, sharing off a little stress with my dic buddy about shape of puncture wounds, coagulated blood, &c. -- the daily/nightly horror show. No sin -- and even if it were, they say they are glad to see us sinners.

Went to Mass for the first time in more years than I care to admit, took Communion, and lighted a few candles. Sat there in the wonderful, majestic silence and did some crying that needed to be done.

Very nice church -- no felt kindergarten-class banners about "social justice," no radicalism from the pulpit. I will be back there soon.

Couldn't get mad at anything on the walk back home. The Pflegers and nutty Lemons with their bullhorns fall back into their rightful place -- insignificance. Resets your perspective and priorities a little.

Reading over the church bulletin, I liked the Bishops' stand on the institution of marriage, did not so much care for the position on immigration. It's OK. You get older, you learn more to "take what you need and leave the rest." One gives up little, and gains much. Only place that agrees 100% with me IS me, and that can get kinda lonely.

Whatever your persuasion, I would humbly recommend taking a couple hours to go and reconnect with tradition, ancient ritual, the Eternal One. There is some peace to be found here, some strength, some fellowship. Go, go and take advantage.

Stay safe, all.
