Retiree Shootout

  • A shooting occurred Wednesday morning in the South Chicago neighborhood, with a victim exchanging gunfire with an offender near 81st and Essex.

A 73-year-old retired Chicago Police officer was talking to someone, when an offender was said to have attempted to rob him in the 8100 block of South Essex at 9:35 a.m., [...]

“Gun offenders in Chicago do not discriminate,” Chicago Police Supt. Eddie Johnson said in a statement.

Retired Deputy Chief Fred Coffey was shot first, in the shoulder by the offender. He returned fire, shooting the suspect in leg.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery to the retired Deputy.

To all the nosey roseys questioning where the deputy or anyone else lives, please mind your own fucking business. He can live wherever he chooses to live without your approval and I'm sure he has his reasons why, and full well knows the consequences of his choices. If you make it to retirement, don't let the door hit you on the ass on your way out. Hopefully there will still be a pension for you, but if everyone takes your advice and moves out, I don't know how that will possible.

Best wishes to you Chief Fred and thank you for taking a piece of trash off the street for the rest of us. What SCC does not report and likely does not know yet is the history of the offender. I cannot wait to not be surprised. Something tells me it is long and lengthy and just another example of a CPS school boy who has been locked up plenty of times by our police force and released more times than should be allowed by our States Attorney and Curcuit Court system or paroled by IDOC. I wonder if he has killed someone and we just do not know about it?

But you see, this is why there is crime on the street at the level it is in Chicago. In another post someone talked about the gangs going to the suburbs and Naperville police bosses back the police, there are plenty of police and they have time to respond in seconds. All of that is true but some things were left out. 1) The people in Naperville support and back the police and NOT BLM. 2) The people serve on the juries and convict dirtbags in court. 3) If you are the States Attorney and you do not support the police and lock the thug rats up, you are not going to survive the next election, 4) If you are a judge and not smart enough to understand the aforementioned, then you are not smart enough to be a Judge after the next election and the voters in Du Page are #5. Du Page has a more intelligent group of voters who are smart enough not to live in the city or pay attention newspapers and party slates of candidates.

Finally someone said it above: Chief should move to Naperville and get the heck out of the City. Once the police know you Chief, you will be among many friends, this I am sure of.

Get well soon Deputy Chief Coffey.

And IMHO, Good Shooting. You wounded the mutt, he's arrested, and will be in Jail when he gets out of the hospital and is convicted -- assuming a nitwit criminal friendly judge doesn't get the case.

And I say good shooting because if you had fired a fatal shot, like to the back. A shit-storm by the usual suspects would ensue for killing the ex-honor student and wannabe Brain Surgeon / Architect in 'cold blood'.

Plus there's that Lawsuit that would have been filed against you, which is as certain as the Sun rising in the East, Summer following Spring, and as sure as every lowlife is an angel who was 'turning his life around' -- and someone who liked puppies and singing in the Church Choir.

So all in all, this is the probably best result in this instance. Again, strictly my opinion, your mileage may vary.

OAK PARK, IL — Village Manager Cara Pavlicek announced today that she has selected Oak Park Police veteran Anthony Ambrose as the new Chief of Police.

Ambrose, who has served as Deputy Police Chief since 2005, will succeed Rick C. Tanksley who announced last week that he will retire on Sept. 1 after nearly 33 years on the force.

“Tony Ambrose brings more than 30 years of law enforcement experience with Oak Park to this position at a time when I believe continuity and hands-on knowledge of the Police Department is critical,” Pavlicek said. “Tony has an established working relationship with community groups and citizens, which makes him the ideal candidate to be our new chief.

Lets not forget, the city did everything they could to block the retired guys from carrying.
9/15/2016 09:26:00 AM

Yes DAley did. He decided that he would ignore the Federal law. And, he had the support of the police superintendents, Hillary for one. I bet Uncle Terry went and got his carry card when he retired.Hypocrits.

OT - This weekend has all the ingredients necessary for a full-blown shit show. Full moon starting Friday, the Riot Fest rock concert for the next 3 days, Cubs clinching the division and.......the resident jackals circling the herd, howling and laughing maniacally. Darting into the fringes of the milling, distracted crowd to drag off the weak, drunk or momentarily stupid.

Be safe and as fetal as possible.

9/15/2016 07:23:00 AM

...and don't forget El Grito - Mexican Independence Day!

And if he moved next door to you or your neighbor there would be mass exodus right? Who fucking cares where he lives? Can never win with some people on this job.

Never give up your gun FRED, that's the way to go. I hope that asshole copper who gave up his weapon reads what a real police officer does when faced with a punk(s). He fought back, and God only knows if he didn't, he'd probably be dead. Best wishes and a speedy recover.

9/15/2016 05:10:00 PM

This is an example for all of us, be aware of you're surrounding, pay attention, and be alert. Know your weapon and practice at home and on the range. I know the new police don't want to hear this, but at least try not to give up your gun.

Coffey was a great boss...fair and decent man to all who worked under him in 004. To the poster who called him out as a 'racist and a hater,' you obviously didn't know the man at all, but that doesn't surprise me. Black bosses in this dept.are all pretty much described using those same words here on this blog. So be it. That seems to be a common thread here.
Coffey has never lived on the 8100 block of South Essex. Fred has many ties here, and obviously enjoys his retired life here in Chi. It's his choice. He's obviously prepared for the thugs who think, or thought he was an easy target. It's a shame we don't have more bosses on this job today like Coffey. God knows he could use them. Heal up soon, boss.

Hey doofus, lots of black cops live on the northwest side and I haven't seen the white people fleeing the area. You're as bad as the public, about 30 years behind what is actually happening now. Hhmpf, hmpf hmpf, I'm a salty veteran and I know everything. Of course you do, Gracie.

I know that Fred is a gun guy. This kid was lucky that he's 73 years old and maybe a step slower. had this been a few years earlier and that kid would be on an autopsy table.

Get well soon, Fred

It looks like you are looking to go somewhere warm? Perhaps low crime? Have you considered Costa Rica? This applies to any of you. I will keep it short since this is OT but feel free to email me if the blog allows my post. CR is a great place to retire to. I am 48 y.o. and retiring next year from this hell hole. Yes, I'm leaving at 49 y.o. a whole year early. I'm raising our (soon to be) 6 y.o. daughter in CR. Very low crime, no RLC and very inexpensive healthcare.

The local healthcare is about $250/month and even with BCBS it's only $1,500/year additional per adult. If you buy a house and own a car you can easily live off of a 22 year (and a day) pension down there which is what I will have. Property is affordable depending on where and what you buy of course.

If interested feel free to email me for any additional details.

Nothing specific needs to be revealed, but Coffey was a great boss. I, too, worked for a bunch of white and black, total jerks who couldn't even come close to Coffey. Also, the current exempt masqueraders wither in comparison.

Retired White Guy

Always been a "GANG" problem , but he Libs and Dems want to "save them" so they found "guns" to blame it on. You can't dump millions and create tax loop holes unless you are "saving" something so it's the guns that corrupt the poor uneducated inner city dwellers. I they didn't have guns then they would just chill and spread their wonderful culture all around the city and be peaceful
