“If I was asked, and I was not, I would have recommended to not release the Laquan McDonald” video, “because the case was still pending,” McCarthy said at a City Club of Chicago luncheon.

We're pretty sure he's still playing the role Rahm assigned him - distraction to the masses. Distracting the "community" that Rahm hid the video from for months. Being loud and brash, (properly) blaming the criminals while distracting from the fact it isn't the police releasing them from prison and proper sentencing. It's an interesting message, but it's different from the line he was preaching and practicing when he was actually in the big seat. Remember:
- his first major speech was at St Sabina
- he tripled the number of Deputy Chiefs
- he closed 3 districts and 2 detective areas
- the clearance rate cratered
- death "investigations" skyrocketed under his regime
- and the routine "reclassification" was all that "drove down" crime stats
The consistent double-digit "reductions in crime" should have resulted in negative crime numbers owed to future generations and were a source of constant amusement to the blog and some interested reporters at Chicago Magazine.

WHY didn't McCarthy come out and say that under CPD directives, we have no power to pull people over anymore? Read the directives, if the only reason for pulling the car over is a traffic violation, and the driver refuses to pull over and goes through an intersection while disregarding a traffic control device, we are "prohibited" to pursue. same goes if the car is stolen and refuses to pull over. just let them go.
WHY NOT let the public know what the bosses of this department are telling the officers to do while being paid with taxpayer money? We will be violating department policy for chasing cars that were taken in thefts.... for chasing cars for minor traffic violations.
Let the Citizens know that they do not have to pull over for sirens and lights. If you blow a red light and the police signal you to pull over, just keep going. Just keep going through one stop sign, or one stop light, or a combination of the two, and you are scot-free. Then crash into a light pole and sue the officers for violating department policy.

I retired w/the 55 and premium medical care 2 years ago. Just went to the dr. for the first time this year and they told me my DEDUCTIBLE FOR OFFICE VISITS is $3,000. Physicals are covered 100%, but if you go to the dr. for any other reason, the deductible is $3 grand---WTF???? There are different deductibles now for each individual service type, such as for $350 for physical therapy, emergency care, etc., with a total deductible for all services (if used) $10,000.
Anybody else run into this?

One of his City Club comments about the crime issue irriated me in particular. He said if we expect the police to solve all of the problems of society, we will be having this same conversaton in 5 years. He then said the following: the community has a reason to distrust the police because in years past the police have enforced racist government laws against the black community. Sure Garry, like thou shalt not kill, rape, rob, burglarize their neighbors homes and steal their cars, blare rap out the windows at 3am and so on. In general, the same laws that are enforced in my neighborhood by the same police but not enforced so often and mostly without opposition. I am so sick and tired of the community and the dirty stain that it is.
Many young policemen are put into districts and believe with all their hearts that they would help people, restore safety to "the community" only to learn that they were the vitims of hatred and racism (an unreasonable fear or hatred of a group of people who are different than them accordingly to social studies majors)and within a few short years became very jaded. Very sad for all concerned like proud mothers, fathers, sibilings and right down the family line of those young policemen and women.
I remember thinking Garry, the problem is far bigger than you can imagine. The police are at best bit players in the whole situation yet the police are held out as the main problem.

I know the department can't give him a full honors funeral but can we band together and give him one on our own time? Can we get bagpipers to donate time? The honor guard and enough officers on and off duty to show up and support chick and his family and give him a proper send off? He was an awesome guy who still loved this job, loved this department and most importantly loved life. He was nice to everyone he talked to weather it was another PO or some slug on the street. Does anyone have any idea why west side school football teams are coming up to 016 parks to practice ? I've seen different west side schools like Providence St. Mels located at 119 S Central Park Blvd and Christ King located at 5088 W Jackson Blvd come all the way up to Foster/Austin Park to practice. I guess there are not parks closer to them so they come up and crowd out the residents that want to use the park.

City worker unions have avoided the issue for years in hopes their members will stop asking about it.(maybe for there own benifit) The more guys fill out the form the better. Every american worker has rights. dont buy into the "this is how it always has been " or "you knew the rules when you were hired" just beause its accepted doesnt mean its legal or right.

I retired w/the 55 and premium medical care 2 years ago. Just went to the dr. for the first time this year and they told me my DEDUCTIBLE FOR OFFICE VISITS is $3,000. Physicals are covered 100%, but if you go to the dr. for any other reason, the deductible is $3 grand---WTF???? There are different deductibles now for each individual service type, such as for $350 for physical therapy, emergency care, etc., with a total deductible for all services (if used) $10,000.
Anybody else run into this?

I haven't had that problem, yet! I hear that some doctors, either out of greed or the complexity of bama care are opting out of taking Medicare or insurance payments. They have a "boutique" of payment schedules. You pay a certain amount and you have unlimited visits etc. it can be very costly and the price goes up as the amount of patients go down!
I had a additional deductible that I wasn't aware of for having physical therapy with a occupational therapist prescribed by a surgeon for post surgery treatment. I called the FOP and they talked to me like, what's the problem, DUMB FUCK its in the new contract! I went to a regular physical therapist and had no billing add ons? Guess I am a DUMB FUCK for thinking that the FOP was for us! We get enough attitude from the department and on the street, I don't need anymore from a unelected employee of the FOP...

Speak for yourself. Not every po in Chicago despises him. Had a few dealings with him and he was always good with me. Ask the 2 po's from 015 who were stripped and termination proceedings were ordered. He investigated the case and determined no punishment and returned them to duty. He also tried not to releas all the videos. All of there new cases with the new videos were during his watch and none of those videos were released until he was terminated. That's when all the po's were stripped

Then we are real lucky he was fired and replaced with a new supt who is not political and surely doesn't pander to the reverends, administers fair promotional tests like the lts test and would never throw a po under a bus by releasing videos almost immediately after the incident and strip them before the investigation is even started. Comstat has changed and what does stand out is the people the new supt surrounds himself with.

The fact is that EVERY Superintendent is responsible for the nonsense that follows. Without McCompstat, we wouldn't have the McDonald stain on our Department. He could have put that spine to use but chose to pander. He pounded the Commanders for contact cards and ANOVs instead of police work. He spent 5 years chasing numbers to make the mayor and himself look good. He was a politician in a policeman's uniform and here we are today.
Now we have the end result of his ineptitude: the kneejerk reaction that has given us the command structure we now enjoy.
