Hats Damnit, HATS!!!

  • A person was shot by a Chicago police officer outside a church in Chicago's Englewood neighborhood, police said.

Police officers were attempting to stop a vehicle with stolen plates in the 300-block of West 59th Street at about 10 a.m. on Sunday. That's when several suspects ran out of the car and officers chased them.

One of the officers fired multiple shots and hit one of the suspects in the lower extremities and chest, seriously wounding that suspect. He was transported to a hospital in critical but stable condition.
When the street deputy showed up (over two hours later), everyone missed her because she was so short. Then she started harping on the hats. Then, just to make sure everyone knew who was in charge, she washed out every officer's mouth with soap as she is known to do. Then she had Gustie come in and twist arms, measure sideburns and check for hair touching collars.

The cops were all okay though, not that she ever asked.

The morale on this job can not get any worse. Saturday at the Cubs game I am listening to an exempt and a Sgt who are both Black. Exempt asks the Sgt were you put in for LT. (Merit). The Sgt explains no his resume needs improvement, the Exempt tells him that fast Eddie or Wallers secretaries could fix that by creating BS to add to his resume. It has always been done in the past if someone who needs to get made, they lie on that persons resume and merit package to make him look like a star. So then if someone snoops around, the city is covered. One problem, would if the DOJ ask that same Sgt for a copy of his Resume, and the two do not match or if the DOJ pulls the secretary in and asks if she created BS Resumes for certain people, I bet she gives up her boss. This would be one hell of a story if true, but I would like to see some of these exempts dolls squirm behind their computers..

Hats were a priority sometime between the late 1800's 1920's. This was when police cars either didn't exist or were a luxury. Cops walked on the streets in foot patrols and besides the badges, helped citizens identify whom a certain police officer was by the badge number affixed to the front of the hat.

News Flash! Hats are obsolete and unnecessary!!! Kind of like beat tags, there is no point to them. Eliminate both archaic items. Make the crown caps gave no star on them. That way, if they get lost, no one gives a fuck. Not like it should matter anyway in this day and age. What? You mean if some gangbanger gets a hold of a police hat with a star, then that gives him carte le blanche to go anywhere in the city, commit crimes, and get away because of the magic police hat shield.

Please, I am looking forward from comments from stellar posters to give me any reason why we should still have crown caps that must have our police badges assigned to them. Outside of the usual old retarded stand by 'duh, it is a tradition,' you don't have any.

Just like how beat tags are unnecessary due to the squad numbers plastered along the sides of the car, gps, and in car cameras, so are hat badges obsolete due to citizrn cameras, name tags, gps, and the god damn body cameras we are all supposedly getting.

Jesus H. Christ the stupidity of this department is excruciatingly painful. Get with the fucking times already.

No writers left, no second line of defense -- editors -- left either. Here -- gratis --

"...seriously wounding the suspect, who was transported to a hospital in critical but stable condition."

Done. Now, how about the officer who had to let loose? "Critical but stable," standing upright and answering questions but dripping fear? Not sweat, fear. Few in the overall population have been pushed far enough to smell it on themselves. People don't want to let you into the house.

A. You will know. B. It's OK.

There are dogs -- for the love of God -- trained to sniff for this extreme stress/terror/injury, to find survivors in a disaster.

Pena fit a demographic that the Mayor holds so dear to his heart. No one really wonders why. He loves the alternative lifestyle group, and they also happen to be a voting block the Democratic organization covets, so up the ladder they go regardless of their abilities. The New York clown advanced them and we are stuck with them. Just for fun, name a female exempt mad by the clown that wasn't alternative or a minority.

That being said, any copper that votes for any Democrat in this or any election is voting against their own needs. Look at this City and State. Both are a mess after decades of Democratic abuse. Look at your healthcare, such as it is. It is and will be a crushing expense for you from now on. We are middle class and we are footing the bill the Democrats nonsense. Vote them out. Vote them all out.

I am not a Republican. I am and always will be an Independent. I will vote for the candidate that I believe has the Country's and my best interests at heart. I don't look at party, I look at content. The Democratic party has been hijacked by Socialists and nut jobs with an agenda that will kill this Country. They are not the Democrats of the 60's.

These current Democrats have to be put in check this election or we are in for a rough, maybe fatal patch ahead. It is that important.

We should be wearing the hats. I do. It looks professional and shows some respect for professionalism and tradition. It's not a hassle to wear them, and anyone with some common sense knows when it's necessary. Bailing out in a foot chase or wrestling with a goof, no one cares, but standing around like at crime scenes, or on a simple jobs like a burglar alarms, domestics, bar incidents or other mundane stuff, it's really a none issue. Just wear it. Beside that, when you look professional, less people tend to get mouthy with you and it creates less stress. And, your less likely to have to lock them up and get involved with all that.

BUSTED: Hillary And Chicago Trump Event Rioter

So what do we have here? It appears that the woman from Okeefe's video who states on camera that she was one of the people who shut down Trump's Chicago rally was directly paid by the Hillary Clinton campaign.

FEC records are a bitch, Hillary -- there's a payroll and phone record in there that appears to be for this same woman and her name is unique enough that I'm willing to bet there's only one of her.

This appears to be clear federal documentary evidence that Hillary Clinton's campaign paid "protesters" less than two weeks before they engaged in a violent demonstration that not only obstructed Trump's rally it resulted in both property damage and personal injury to police officers.

How is this not flatly illegal folks?

BUT WAIT! THERE"S MORE...

This ship has totally lost direction, and eddie instead of installing fresh new leadership, and/or looking for the best qualified leaders nope just keeps the same cabal of doing nothing shuffles them, gives many more money and the results are the same! the old definition on insanity "keep doing the same thing over and over and expect a different result!"

Left-wing students at the University of California, Berkeley are protesting again. This time, however, these students are calling for “safe spaces” for transgendered people, as well as “spaces of color” at the University (which they already have).

The protesters are also harassing white students trying to study, barring their path across a key bridge while allowing students of color safe passage.

The protest, which began last Friday, blocked Berkeley’s Sather Gate, disrupted studying students in the Student Union, and blocked traffic at the intersection of Telegraph and Bancroft in front of campus.

A deputy chief worried about hats. How about Officers who risk their lives everyday who have the courage to work the streets and actually respond to an Officer calling for help who incidentally could have lost his life? Talk about stress for those Officers and their families. You think their well being and assurance that they are doing the right things addressing all those violent crimes in that district would be foremost on the mind of a responding deputy chief. Let us instead focus on hats, you deputy asshat.

Optics is more important to merit ruling political party approved gold stars that have chosen appearance over comforting traumatized Officers who actually practice and proactively produce police type work keeping this entitlement plagued community safe. Especially in America’s third largest city which has a comparable murder rate to backward uncivilized third world dictatorships. A hat, not common sense solutions addressing the murder problem is the diversion played by those who call the shots.

You would think the deputy would formulate an actual strategy to address all that out of control violent crime across the city. You would think the deputy would sideline the silly uniform discrepancies while on the scene of a possible life threatening, life altering event for those under the deputy’s command. Thank GOD our Officers, our courageous Heroes, will go home to hug their loved ones.

May this deputy continue to publically display further acts which illustrate this overpaid nincompoop is over her head reinforcing this stereotype for most of our beyond their level of competence command staff.

To the poster @ 02:28:00 AM who stated that 20 officers will get fired for pointing their body cameras at the sky, just how many hard charging insiders are reviewing these video clips? The public would be served if these 9 to 5 sworn members with guns were on the street actually thwarting crime reducing the murder rate to a more politically accepted palatable level.

It is rumored that almost all of these villains are from administrative staffs, exempt's chauffeurs, mayoral protective security D-3 get paid specialists,35th Street mice, CAPS personnel, those at or above the rank of lieutenant and specialized units- not officers in patrol. Just risk your life and your freedom because your department has your back and it is all recorded on video and audio for inspection and further prosecutorial/disciplinary actions on so many levels.

Must be nice to sit on your ass in a comfort controlled workspace, break out with the buttered lightly salted theater popcorn, laugh at the chumps recording their demise with fellow sworn co-workers, enjoy the legislated required show, then demonstrate your blind loyalty by identifying problem officers who put their lives on the line on a daily basis risking getting stabbed, shot, bitten, physically assaulted, publically humiliated or forever memorialized deviating from rigid unrealistic orders which were written in an office cubicle by the never to wear a body cam chosen hiding out at H.Q.

3600 people shot and 622 dead, and this chick is worried about hats. Sounds about right. If everyone is wearing their hat then all these shootings will stop. Gotta love the lack of leadership here in cpd

10/25/2016 01:38:00 PM
I agree with part of this. There is a time and a place for everything. Good, clean and well maintained uniforms are part of the job and when the time is right should be held to standard. But, on the scene of a shooting incident when all is confusion then that just is not the right time. These complaints about inspectors and exempts standing by while chaos is going on are nothing new. I go back a long way ( 1968) and the same thing has been happening throughout the decades. The entire promotion system needs to be revamped, but it never will because the political class will never relinquish power and control. Sometimes competent people do get promoted on their own or through clout and many times it is the reverse. There are no guarantees.

By the way, why are there on-man cars working nights, or any time when these exempts require drivers? No command person should get a driver while there is any one person cars on the streets.

After 21 years in the military, three deployments, and a roadside bomb blast that left him bleeding and unconscious, Christopher Van Meter got a letter from the Pentagon saying he improperly received enlistment bonuses and now owed the government $46,000.

“I was having to choose between buying diapers and food for my children and paying this debt,” said Mr. Van Meter, 42, a former Army captain who now teaches high school near Modesto, Calif. “I spent years of my life deployed, missed out on birthdays and deaths in the family, got blown up. It’s hard to hear after that that they say I haven’t fulfilled my contract.”

Mr. Van Meter is one of nearly 10,000 National Guard troops in California who have been ordered to repay re-enlistment bonuses and other incentives doled out during the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan after an audit in 2011 uncovered widespread fraud, mismanagement and overpayment by the Guard in the state.

So go try to impress someone else with all ur "experience "

A deputy chief worried about hats. How about Officers who risk their lives everyday who have the courage to work the streets and actually respond to an Officer calling for help who incidentally could have lost his life? Talk about stress for those Officers and their families. You think their well being and assurance that they are doing the right things addressing all those violent crimes in that district would be foremost on the mind of a responding deputy chief. Let us instead focus on hats, you deputy asshat....

The real police wore them for 90+years before and still caught the bad guys.

Sorry I didn't clarify but it was the in car cameras that were pointed at the sky, not the body cameras. If the watch before and after you had them pointed in the right direction then obviously there is no malfunction and if there was we all know that we are supposed to have a sergeant get a ticket for them right? OT: Was informed that the Department on 7 Sept 2016 issued S04-26-11. This order stated that the City ordinance that allowed active duty members to acquire and carry carbines (assault weapons) no longer applies to retired members.

The ordinance Section 8-20-075(b) states that if you acquired one of these weapons for duty use you have 60 days to dispose of the weapon or move it out of the city. If you are found with one in your vehicle your vehicle will be impounded.

You are no longer exempt from the ordinance barring possession of these weapons. You are no longer trusted to own it

So all you hard-charging eager-beavers that want to get carbine qualified, think about this:

The City will show you no consideration or appreciation for extending yourself to get trained and buy and maintain this weapon.

The carbines are on the way out. I am retired, but under stand that carbine classes are very rare. I doubt that they will ever occur again. There will be more restrictions on their deployment (assault weapons don't fit well with "de-escalation" and "Sanctity of (offenders) life". Bet that the next batch of vehicles will not have the racks installed.

I knew a good street cop in Des Moines. Eight years on. Catches a robber coming out of a store, wrestles with him, tackles him and gets him cuffed. The chief drove by and saw this. Instead of stopping to help the chief drove past. The next day the officer was in the chief's office and instead of being praised he was grilled about why he wasn't wearing his hat.

Also met a small town chief from the boonies who said that at a chief's meeting a large city superintendent asked him what he did about hats. The chief said his officers had Stetsons. The superintendent then said he meant were the officers required to wear them. The chief replied that he was more worried about what was under the hat than whether it was being worn. Touche.

I have seen similar situations over the course of the years that merit has been in. When I worked in 007, two guys came back from a long leave of absence. Both were placed in plain clothes " special detail" on days. Both made merit sergeant the next time around. I had no idea what they did in 007 as they did not report to the watch commander and were not on any sergeant's log. I know, I was the watch commander.

The city can and has fired people for very bad reasons. Once you are separated, you are no longer a member of the bargaining unit and cannot file a grievance. You must file suit in circuit court and that is a very hard venue to win an employment suit in. It seems the judges give the edge to the employer. Just hope the police board has more sense, but the resulting suspension can be very long.

I don't agree with the " real police" comment at all, but I don't believe the person was referring to anyone outside of CPD. After I left CPD, I was under contract to Homeland Security and worked with police departments all over the midwest. I found hard working and professional cops in large and small departments. On the reverse, I found the opposite in every department. It seems every department has its own culture and traditions and that does not make them good or bad, just different. But,one thing remains the same, a cop is a cop is a cop no matter where he/she serves. We can all learn from each other and should present a united front against the cop haters.

Yeah... "The real police" is and old school term adopted by and used by many CPD cops who work the hood. It may sound a little arrogant and silly but it's a term we use only within our dept to denote a good smart non lazy working police officer. It's not intended to compare our dept with everybody else. That being said we do work in some pretty inhospitable environments. But you wouldnt understand that unless you were to strap on a vest and patrol our violent west and south sides. Where the radio is non stop with shots fired and persons shot calls and a plethora of violent conflict and narcotics calls relentlessly banging on your ears. To the tune of 3600 people shot and 560 people killed. The shit/ trauma that you are exposed to is much more than you would most likely ever experience anywhere else as a police officer. Add the fact that we work with a lot of outdated equipment, don't have a bevy of helicopters helping us, endure a ruthless political system against us which breeds inept leadership. Toxic work environment. And we're expected to somehow manage all that and still do our jobs and be ok with our health.

I understand that a similar conversation took place years ago...between Weis and his driver, who was eventually promoted to sergeant. So what's your point?

Another disillusioned individual that thinks that Chicago police are the only officers that deal with the absolute worst of society.

Tell you what, "strap on" your vest and try policing Robbins, Harvey, Markham, or any of the other "suburban" cesspools. With one man cars.

You are free to leave Chicago any time, guy. Just like any of us who work in shitty suburbs are free to leave. None of us are conscripted or drafted you know. I enjoy being what you would call "the real police" but have enough sense not to do so in Chicago with its forced residency. I work in the hood and like it, and I like even more living in a beautiful suburb far from work where my taxes pay for my kids to go to great schools and there is very little chance of running into any of the scum I've arrested. Get some common sense and get over yourself.

Real police. Give me a break. You Chicago guys are your own worst enemy.
