Rahm Runs Up the Tab

  • Aldermen had just gotten done Wednesday voting 48-0 to approve a new budget when Mayor Rahm Emanuel started a round of back-patting from the dais in City Council chambers.

"You can say Chicago tomorrow is better because of the work you have done over the last five years," Emanuel told aldermen.

At one point, the mayor even went so far as to say they had "fixed" Chicago's financial woes, before quickly dialing back that assessment to Chicago merely being "on the right path."
And how much is that "right path" going to cost everyone?
  • Left unsaid during all of this optimism? The average family will pay nearly $1,700 more a year to the city and Chicago Public Schools than they did before the mayor took office in 2011 once all of Emanuel’s tax and fee increases take full effect. There's been a series of property tax hikes. There was a water and sewer rate increase, plus a new tax on top of that. Not to mention a new garbage hauling fee, 911 phone tax hike, vehicle sticker fee increase and a tax on cable television.

Even with all of that, taxpayers may be asked for more money in the coming years. Emanuel's plans for shoring up long-neglected city worker pension funds will require the city to come up with hundreds of millions of dollars more by the early to mid-2020s.
And that certainly doesn't count the $1.3 billion in Federal money that might be cut should Trump decide to break the democrats over "sanctuary cities."

FOP, you keeping track of all this? Have Rahm take his 0%, 0% first two year raises and tell him to stick it where the sun doesn't shine.

Did I hear correctly...

The city will install parking meters on streets that previously had free parking?

Did Shortshanks come out of his dementia long enough to stab us in the back even more or is this all Rahm's doing?

More and more decent working law abiding Chicago citizens keep fleeing this rat hole every day. I retired 10 years ago and got out. Now I want to get out of Crook County. What happens when there is no one left to pay the bills? Lights out. And all of the Democrat politicians who put this city in a bottomless hole will be long gone with their cash.

Smart strategy. Tax people until they move. It's similar to Preckwinkle's strategy. Neither will ever cut useless entitlement spending. The people who stay will shop outside of the city and possibly the county when feasible. How long will people tolerate this bullshit? Enough is enough. How much more will residents of Englewood pay? You guessed it-fucking nothing because the working stiffs will cover it. The socialist democrat way!

Get rid of the thieving TIF funds, hiding city monies with no transperancy!

Term limits for all elected Politicians in Chicago and Crook County, with no pension or health benefits in retirement just like Chicago Police Officers!

Launch Rahm like his mentor Hillary Clinton out of office and into unemployment!

Here is a quick tip to get out of paying one of those city taxeso. I have a family cellphone plan with my parents and pay the whole bill because they don't have a lot of money. So when they raised the city cellphone taxes I switched my billing address to the suburbs they live in and boom, I pay 7 dollars a month less in taxes for my phone bill. Everyone can do that if they have family somewhere else. Just pay the bill online and switch the billing Dddress. I'm gonna live in the craphole for another 18 years so I'll save 1512 dollars in taxes. Sucks it chicago

Why are all the Chicago Park District buses broken? All or most have been down for well over a month. These buses are used to transport Special Needs children to different park activities they belong to. The buses are old so is getting parts a problem? Maybe there are some school bus companies out there that could donate some buses that are in better shape for the kids to use.

Ha-ha-ha. And exactly who demanded that everyone use 'disposable' (plastic) bags in the first place? STOO-PID(tm) LIBERALS!!..that's who.

That's right kiddies, back in the olden days, like the 1980s, things were going just fine when stores handed out Paper Bags -- naturally bio-degradable, made from wood pulp, that comes from TREES -- but idiot Liberal Enviro-Nazis started screaming about cutting down 'the forests'. Too bad nobody informed the mental midgets that TREES REGROW, they're a 'Renewable resource' -- as the saying goes.

Anywho, thanks to short-sighted liberals (is there any other kind? NO.) Paper Bags were Banned, replaced by Plastic Bags that will sit in a landfill for 10,000 years, unchanged from the day you got it at Jewel. But that's irrelevant as it made the liberals feel good and all superior. And 'Feelings' trump facts and inconvenient consequences to a liberal. Fast forward to day and were back to Paper Bags.

The mind of a liberal is a very scary place. LOL.

Do you think the sawed-off schmuck could raise taxes enough to cover this? No. Would the citizens of Chicago would let him get away with it even if he tried? Fuck no. It would be time for pitchforks and torches.

Taking up 75% of police services, while the tax paying half of the city gets nothing......

And this sad excuse of a mayor wants more? Wants to keep his sanctuary city? And what do the chumps taxpayers get...more crime, less city service, failing schools that produce more criminals, more corruption and less prosecution. Aldermen are never ashamed.

I've long been a fan of taking the nameless, faceless government out of this equation. Let's make this a PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY issue; let those in favor of illegal immigration actually ADOPT an illegal alien/family. Make them responsible for the care & feeding of illegal immigrants until those immigrants are actually contributing to American society (i.e. paying txes, etc.).

If illegal immigrants are in fact no burden on society, this should be no problem.

WOW.. so they could not purchase new cars so they painted the old shitboxes.. at what point can you realize Democrats are running this city?

To: everyone

One of the major asks that comes out of the Superintendent's recurring District and Area focus groups with police officers and sergeants is a request to improve the existing CPD fleet. As a result, you may have heard that the Department pushed very hard during this budget season to purchase 600 new police cars & SUVs. We are proud to report that this request was approved by the Mayor and City Council and these new vehicles will be built at the Ford Chicago plant and phased in over the next two years. We still have a way to go to right-size our fleet but this is a good step in the right direction.

Additionally, the Superintendent got the right people together so that Support Services could work with the city's Fleet and Facility Management team to restore and repair the rusting Crown Victoria squad cars that have been an eyesore to many districts for far too long. For the older cars that are still in decent shape and have more than 2 years of service in their lifespan (we have aprox 80-100 that qualify), the city has already started repairs to restore their appearance. Below are some pictures of the first car that was finished this week. We've also heard your concerns about getting floor mats so that the winter weather doesn’t ruin uniforms – Support Services is looking at options to see if we can also get this done.

Thanks to everyone for bringing these important issues to the Superintendent's attention. We value the comments and feedback and continue to urge you to send in questions and concerns to askHQ@chicagopolice.org so we can continue to improve the CPD.

If you possibly can, spend the bare minimum and squirrel away as much money as possible. I really, really doubt that your pensions will be there for you as promised, as disgusting as that is. At this point, not even a federal bailout of all of the failing pensions is realistic...they've completely effed up all of the federal programs too. Its not like Chicago is one bad apple in an otherwise wonderful crop. Nope, the entire pension and entitlement system is an unmitigated disaster that will implode, and there isn't enough flesh left on private sector bones to fix it.

They've lied to us about so many things, like Social Security, etc, and they will not be able to kick the can forever.

The economy and our future plans are built on quicksand because of all of their lies and empty promises.

Don't trust a damn word they say, and don't trust any of their stats either. Shadowstats.com gives a much more accurate snapshot (under the alternate data tab) of how our economy is really doing (a hint...not well AT ALL).

If you want residency lifted, you need to elect a different FOP president. We already know Dean will only do what Rahm wants. Kevin Graham is running and I hear top agenda is residency.

I feel like I'm being taxed to death here. I've owned properties for 18 years in the city and I'm beginning to think that renting might be the fiscally smart thing to do as I plan to retire in a year or two and relocate. As a city worker, with property taxes on the rise AGAIN, garbage AGAIN, and water AGAIN... and so on, it just doesn't seem worth it anymore. Signed, sick and tired.

Dues are always a small percentage of what a raise is. And always has been. I look for dues to up in the future because of legal defense. Witness officers need to have a lawyer now in todays climate. But if the dues are too much for you become a fair share member and give up legal defense.

I've been retired for 6 years...moved to the south suburbs into Will County after about three years of retirement. Yes, our property taxes are higher that I paid in the city, but I don't give a fuck. Slowly but surely the city property taxes are catching up. Water and sewer about the same, city sticker is 25.00 (until next year when I get a discount for turning 65). I lived in west Beverly and every night I could hear gunshots, in the afternoon I could set my watch by the copters over morgan park HS. Also for two hours in the morning and again in the afternoon the cars from the west end of 22 were sitting on MP or Julian. 11th and Western looks like 111th and halsted. Fuck the mayor and the aldermen and their whining about THEIR pension and cub tickets and everything else.

Get out when you can. And god bless you all and stay safe.

Won't you guys ever understand that the city is up to date on regular pension payments. I am not sure about the additional amount that is required over the next several years, but I believe they are up to date on that also. There is a great deal of corruption present, which complicates things, but the main problems with the funding of the pension is that there have been several enhancements to it with no increase in the schedule of payments by the city or the members. Those should have been raised a long time ago. Remember you cannot get something for nothing. The 2008/2009 recession also affected the fund because of the reduced return on the investment. Sure it is easier to blame Daley and Rahm, but just stop and think how much of an outcry there would have been if the schedule of contributions had been raised say to 11 percent or so.

Five out of five pinocchio’s

1. There is no such thing as a presidents pension. Dineen, Nolan, and Donahue all get their detectives pension and not a dime more. Shields as of now is still working.

2. Angelo is not full duty. He still is limited duty. He is only back because the city changed the standards in order to get people back on the payroll in a limited duty status to replace officers in call back and admin jobs at 35th street. They will replace full duty officers wh will be returned to patrol division.

So both of your statements are false.

The only thing the FOP keeps track of is how many boats in the water for the BS fishing outing, or new 5 star steak joints opening up with $200 plus wine list. All for the members, get it !

11/17/2016 02:18:00 AM

Two out of five Pinocchio's

There has been no fishing outing in three years. So DiMaria has all of his tasks cut by 50%. The picnic was his other task.

There have been no $200 bottles of wine since Shields has left office. Someone told me Angelo and Bella bottle their own.

How many bottles can you produce w/o paying taxes?

So both of your statements were true but not for the last three years.
