And now 3 Lt's per watch because one sitting in the office watching YouTube videos wasn't enough. All their work is performed by a patrolman watch secretary.

Are these new traffic specialists mathmaticians? The position requires a lot of advanced mathematics, that most police officers aren't familiar with. Last I heard, the city was sending them back to college to study calculus. I've been out of college for nearly 20 years now and I would need extensive training to return to my prior math skills. I predict that over half of the new traffic specialists will return to their prior assignments due to failing the math classes that are sure to be extremely difficult.
What about the airports? When will there be bids at O'Hare or Midway?

Class of 15 Lts and 60 Sgts starting May 1st.
The traffic specialists are very short. they have been working their days off because the city allowed them to dwindle down. Sometimes only two available for the entire city.
The sad thing is that by adding a measly 11 people they damn near just doubled the size of that unit. Talk about letting it dwindle! And people wondered why they never came out for anything. Congratulations newbies!!

Remember FatHeadEd says patrol is the backbone of the department.
Patrol is hemmoraging people with all these promotions and coppers going to CPIC, CompStat etc.
Patrol can barely staff the beat cars..... the backbone is in dire need of reinforcements.
Beware fore those thinking of Mounted the Lt is a mental job and takes it out on the P. O.'S the unit is a mess very low moral.

Yes the procedure is that you will sit for the promotional class then once sworn into the new title be stripped again and sent back to ARS in the new position. The practice lately is to have the officer placed in no pay status to avoid the aforementioned situation. Sorry its bad news.

Should be soon the city put many in over the past 2 months on "scholarships" fop looking into this should be quite a few openings, guessing maybe 12 at midway and 22 at O'Hara! This will be in addition to the retired coppers being hired for other positions, the retired copper coordinating it said many are looking to work part-time at airports pay will be $25.00 per hour 2-3 days a week!
I want to fly the helicopter, can I do that without any flying experience? It seems like a lot of fun, I mean I have seen them fly before that should be good enough for me to get a spot. I do have a phone call.

Yes... Downtown Traffic Aides, OEMC dispatchers, Animal Control and Aviation PD are next up as new hires.
Possible that Academy will shutter (no money,no hires,no promotions) to any new incoming after last intakes in late April/May.
The Hail Mary is a Rahm concession to President Donald J. Trump, which is unlikely. Rahm doesn't like to use Fed aid for hiring, he wants social programs. The President wants Chicago to abide by the 1994 Violent Crime Control & LE Act and an end to Sanctuary City policies. Rahm will not concede.
Why? :
Rahm will concede 2017 to the feral youth and resume hires and promotions in Oct after the 2018 budget hearings, dependent on any Fed money (if any) is allocated.
2017 Public Safety Budget increase allows for 900 police hires (Surprise!)...over the next TWO Years (thats 2019).
Tapping into the PD budget is the Police Oversight increases for hires to the Police Bd., IPRA, COPA formation & Inspector General Invest. Unit, but they are also a component of the overall Public Safety budgeting as is the Aviation PD.

They are actually at budgeted strength for 2017. Nothing happening there for awhile.
That's not to say their budget stregngbt isn't wrong but the city will not go above the budget amount
Buying some officers off and creating dirt on others who know they shouldn't be being promoted this foul way, all done with promotions, with taxpayer's money.
Why is the CPD so screwed up again?
Glad to see a couple of officers talking with the DOJ at UIC today, I hope the discussion was about how when they left the Dept. did whatever they had to do making Merit Sgts and Merit Dicks. Verbal warning DOJ would laugh. we shall see.

Not likely. List will only be 2 years old in March. And they've only promoted very few from both lists. These lists will more than likely be up for at least 3-4 more years.
Good luck dealing with Lt A.S. in Major Accidents, she is an arrogant, control freak that screws up everything everywhere she goes! Messed up every district she was in. Totally screwed up the Marine Unit and now word is she has destroyed morale in Major Accidents. Why the department keeps putting her in a commanding officer position is beyond everyone that knows her! Very unprofessional!

Really? Maybe when it comes to desk work, and even in that case the Dss does a lot more than 8%. You must work in a pretty soft place.

It's not too bad. You'll need to pay attention in class, not the typical cpd training. When I went it was four weeks long from eight to four.

Well, the traffic specialist test part one consisted of math portion that was supposed to reflect the northwestern traffic courses level. Honestly the math level on that exam was for a 7th grade math. The math portion of the test was supposed to weed out the people unprepared for the real courses, There you go
Not enough manpower. I work out of an area team stopped by the 15th District and jeez! The amount of people on 3rd watch alone was insane! You can't drive more than a min around without seeing a squad car

yeah and apparently you dont have to score well enough on a test that supposedly checks your knowledge of the position, you just have to be someone that does their job, just ask the clowns on midnights in 025.

– The appointed position of Captain is solely for the purpose of telling patrolmen their "how tough it was on the street" war stories.
Some are lucky enough to make District/Unit Commander so they can tell their "how tough it was inside" war stories as a District Captain.
The best Captains came from the days of examination long ago.
Today's Captains are "participation trophies" for making a difference to an elected officials life.
They will be making 50 captains in 2018

Actually they added 6 to the marine unit budget for this year so they are short the budget increase. Someone needs to tell Carter because he came in late in the game.
Small Class of LTs in may is possible, depends on how many Capts and commanders they make in coming months.
Sgt's not likely till the late fall/early 2018. Budget increase at Sgt for fiscal year 2018 is 100 bodies. Not including retirements between now and then. Class of 140-160 very possible.
When are the airports having openings? Mass transit? Rumor is officers are going there on phone calls also called management. Any insight?

The watch secretary may do 90% of the work but it's the Lt who ends up in Federal Court either as a witness or an accused. I was a PO and Sgt for 18 years and was in Federal court once. 12 years as a Lt brought me down there 6 times including twice after I'd retired. You figure out why.

She went from Marine to Traffic because of a beef. She could no longer work in the Marine Unit and needed to move to a similar unit due to said beef. She's an awful supervisor and an awful person.

I second that. Allyson Schloss is the biggest vindictive, mean-spirited supervisor I have had the displeasure of knowing.

To be returned to the rank of police officer you must have formal charges brought against you and demoted by the Police Board, and only the Police Board. Trust me, they will fire you first. That, my friends, is a promotion.

Because this department is so top heavy. 3 Lts on ea watch oh my how did we survive all these years without them. And captains, just a atta boy promotion, how did the commanders function all those years with out them?

There's always some jealous fuck that has to get on here and tell anyone that will listen that Detective isn't a promotion every time a new class is made. Their age old argument is that Detective is not a rank and that you're not a supervisor, therefore it's not a promotion. Of course, this is complete idiocy and these jealous losers are obviously not intelligent enough to look up the definition of the word 'promotion' which reads as follows: Promotion- advancement in rank or position. So your position changes and it comes with a pay raise. That, for all you jealous morons out there, is the definition of a promotion. Your pay scale is D1 and a detective's pay scale is D-2A which is two positions higher than yours.
