There was a class of ten ET's made this week. It's long overdue as in many cases, we're waiting hours to get ET's to shooting scenes and there isn't even a Crime Lab to speak of that processes homicide scenes.
If the Department wasn't wasting time having fully trained ET's answering phones and never hit the streets, that shortage might be alleviated?

We have more inside D-2A and D-3 girls that sit in the office and do nothing. It's hard to knock Murphy personally, but he understands very little at running a unit. Check the A & As and see how many PFIs and ET work inside and never process crime scenes. The city should take the extra pay away.
I had an ET tell me how to classify a crime. He stated make an Agg. Batt. I informed him it was a Robbery, so that takes precedence. He stood his ground training a new ET. Hey stupid ET - Robbery is above Agg. Batt. for reporting purposes. There is no floor on stupid.

Light duty PO's should be used for all these inside spots especially in the photo lab where their printing out photos like Walgreens. PFI's making Sgt's pay to do this....Unreal! You want the higher pay grade get your ass out on the street and do the job you were trained to do and signed up for!!!
That unit has been a badly mismanaged joke for so long it's ridiculous. Thought it would end when the lazy, clouted old guard retired, but apparently not so. Good luck to the new ETs. You'll need it. If you are workers, there's plenty of it for you. Don't let the dogass primadonnas corrupt you.
These E.T.'s have been on the street for a year or so already. Just smoke and mirrors folks. Also, 10 E.T's?...So what are you down now, 30, 40, 50?, and I'm betting MORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This unit started the long road to mediocrity when Murphy was given the spot. He never liked the PFI's when he was a Det. Murphy abdicated most of his in house responsibility to another blowhard inside PFI . The LT who was only interested in pulling in Cpt pay and who was later launched played the same game with Murphy. They had Personnel cancel the PFI position, which continued to destroy morale and waste money on equipment we didn't need and don't use. Hide a dozen clouted PFI's, ET's and SGT's inside. Ten ET's (Good for them) Hope their ready to work because it's no picnic in this unit that pay raise you got isn't enough. You beat guys are still going to wait two hours for your ET. Thirty new ET's would have made a difference.

While I agree that they have too many people inside, there is not one et making D-2A. And I also agree there shouldn't be a single pfi working the photo lab, evidence eval or the clown doing administration work who somehow makes more overtime than the street guys. Put all the pfi's back on the street or tell them to leave. To the new et's, congratulations and enjoy working for a useless commander, outdated equipment that only works half the time and cars that wouldn't pass an inspection in a third world country.

I'm an ET and I have had the pleasure of listening to coppers ordering et's on a daily basis and more than 75% of those ordering don't have their shit together, ordering for complete bullshit and just have a mouth full of marbles. Don't knock the Sgt for calling u out on your bullshit. Get your shit together before u order and he won't call u out. Simple as that. And if wasn't for him, u would be waiting even longer for et's bc we are answering your bullshit processing of doors and doorknobs on burglaries.

Ten is a drop in the bucket. Should have been 25 additional techs with no more D2's doing Admin duty.
Inventory, reporting and the sometimes awful travel distance scene to scene takes up a lot of time.
Maybe Rahm's gift to the Police Dept, Sick'nTarredJughead Special Ed has a plan coming forth that will eliminate violent community crime, once and for all and there will be no more need for anymore future promotions.

These things are done on purpose. The powers that BE don't want these murders solved. They don't want the property crimes to stop. Why you ask? The crimes are majority blacks committing them. They don't report on the real problems like raising the bar on arrests at the SA office, or no ET's to investigate crime and document it so that it can be solved, or that there are way too many people assigned to cush jobs while the streets are short 1,000's of officers. How about the fact that the jail is empty and they continue to let loose so called non-violent offenders. Don't blame the police, blame the msm, the elected officials, and anyone who didn't vote!

Don't forget also the huge mayors,city clerks,city treasurers detail all paid minimum D-3 and up to commanders pay while all are 9161 (patrolmen), rank and they get the pension of that rank! plus they are have multiple beautiful police vehicles assigned to the units and some get personal cars! Fire years ago stood up and eliminated the "gold braid bill" but yet we still allow the pigs at the trough to take huge pension dips come on Hauser put it to a vote that way you will no be blamed, highest civil service rank pension which is lieutenant no more draining the pension so many coppers are deserving and the clouted who should of been demoted for poor performance but were merely shuffled around are waiting to get that fat pension boost and of course as usual another 6 figure job!
On another important subject swat just got slapped in the media (What asshole is feeding the media the leak needs to be discovered and termination must be rendered)we all read the story all over the media by the grace of God it all turned out OK! Now why does swat not have take home police vehicles? With everything happening in this country it would be prudent to have swat officers who can respond to major incidents be able to expeditiously arrive at the location, but no the same as everyone else they are forced to wait in traffic in their own personal vehicles as the body count could rise astronomically! Was at 35th the other day though i was in new car lot, all the beautiful new vehicles how many are "secretaries" and receptionist vehicles? Most work Mon-fri days off weekends and holidays but have a shiny new police spec vehicle to cater their ass back and forth to work! Eddie we had faith in you for real change but as we have all observed really what have you done to improve conditions for your troops? Let me list some in order

There are long wait times because people "want to get the ball rolling on the et" before they contacted the detectives. So the ET gets to the crime scene and waits for the detectives to decide what needs to be processed (most detectives like to see the scene for themselves before the et starts collecting evidence). Meanwhile the jobs keep rolling in....
Call the detectives first. They put in the request to have evidence worked up at the state lab. They talk to evidence evaluation. It's their case.
and yes, in the summer months, we can always use more ETs.

Maybe (just maybe) if you didn't order the impossible, came across CW2 with some respect to the dispatcher, and had ask the detectives if they even wanted an ET, you might get your request through. Just ordering an Et just to CYA isn't helping anyone. It creates a backlog. And that's why people wait hours for ETs even for more pressing jobs. Make a visual inspection. If there's nothing, there's nothing.
Way back in the day ETs were primarily for non serious crimes. Over time that has evolved to handling most serious crimes like homicide, police shootings, death investigation, multiple involved crime scene. At one time there were 60 Police Forensic Investigators and 120 Evidence Technicians city wide. Your happy with 10 new ETs, I am too. I bet ETs will be happy with more cars so they can get out of roll call and get to the job expeditiously. Digital cameras that work, I heard the cameras are at least 10 years old and are downed continuously. Oh yeah video cameras need up grading too. Who is the jagbag holding up the new equipment for the ETs? Headquarters on another note, get your own videographer out of headquarters to video protesters, patrol needs these ETs to process our crime scenes its going to be a bloodier year than previous.
Just shut up and come process my scene, we are short everywhere! Stop whining and do your job, that or leave the unit and come back to patrol and show us how it's done!

Wow -- all of this lambasting of ET's is ridiculous. In case you didn't notice, we're busy as Hell, going from one job to another. Some crime scenes take long to process, whereas others simply don't; simple as that. More often than not, we have a skeleton crew, many a time processing scenes on opposite ends of the city.
Hey, smartass with the D2A comment -- it's false. No ET in the unit gets D2A. FI's are getting D3, but they're being phased out by the city.
Don't blame 5830 for denying requests. It's Policing-101 in many cases -- you're the preliminary investigator, so think about it before making the request, and if you're Sgt forces you to make asinine requests, we have our Sgts to straighten it out.

Actually he is well versed on the job he has, without ever having been an ET. I've worked with him since he got here and he's a good Sgt. Looks out for us, sticks up for us and does the right thing. If he was promoted by merit then they got one right. Take your jealousy somewhere else.

They are told to order the ET and have you deny it for burglaries. That's coming from the districts commanders via the D unit. You don't like it take it up with them, don't take it out on the coppers because your fat ass has to actually listen to the radio.

Got news for you, 11 evidence technicians isn't going to help for shit. That's about four per watch, not much of a presence with overlapping day off groups and those on days at a greater chance of being in court. We need about 11 more per watch, but then again we wouldn't have the cars or equipment to accommodate them anyway. Unit 277 is a fucking joke.

The leaks are vetted and approved the supts office and city halls. AG and FG from news affairs generally provide this info to the media, no secret here. Right now the spin is to "leak" any info regarding discipline to give the impression that the dept is hammering down.

The ET gets Forensic Investigator/Sgt. pay for processing a scene when its classified as an Aggravated Battery, but not when its classified as a Robbery. Just an ET running a scam.

Geesh only 10 new ETs when twe recently lost more than 10 to detectives and Sgt's promotions. It takes forever for an ET to respond, because several are working administratively just like in the D-Unit.
I guy in my district suggested that sergeant's take photos of domestic battery victims instead of tying down E/Ts. Our commander laughed at him instead of taking the concern seriously. If they won't hire the number of E/Ts needed for effective crime investigation then why not look at alternative solutions?

I've never had a bad experience with an ET. They are usually pretty cheery (quirky most of the time! Lol) but solid people. The back log does suck but I know it's not their fault. Some of these guys/gals are coming from 004 to process a scene in like 016. Ten is an ok start but 15-25 more would be a much better change. How old is this list by the way?

Wow, Swat guys get a day for not clearing a house properly, well I was an HBT guy for 25 years and the SWAT guys now are just plain overworked, fact, there are more jobs being called by inexperienced Sgts.a d Lts. There is a certain protocol to follow and alot of times the Sort cars respond and the job gets cancelled. The mayor has this money so spend it on take home cars for all SWAT MEMBERS, buy 1 more light truck because they are wearing out the 1 light truck, no time for it to be reoaired. Jonathon Lewis is sitting on a ton of new radios and other equipment. I'm glad there was a secondary search done and found offenders hiding. But Noel Sanchez was a flat out PRICK on ratting the SWAT Team. It could have been handled internally.
No ET of FI should be assigned to clerical work

When the Area RBT make the annual trips to us lowly bumpkins in DLE roll call, they consistently say "Just order the ET to your burglary and let them determine what to process. There is no such thing as 'The scene has been contaminated.'" That being said, as a supervisor, I am perfectly in agreement with my officers not ordering an ET for a minor burglary for photos of a split door frame and no known surfaces from which to lift.

ET's just won a grievance to get paid out of grade for homicides and police shootings. They haven't been paid that for the last 2 years and still have bosses refusing to sign out of grade when the victim dies after their shift ends....total BS!
Or, any Chicagoland dealer with an ounce of sense, could simply hire ARMED overnight security for their fuckin dealership. For gawdsake, it's only one shift.

Sgt's Det's or PO's should not be taking pictures or process any evidence for ET's. CPD needs to adequately man units so that they can function properly. This department always wants to do this gs on the cheap and it results I extremely low clearance rates. somebody at 35the street needs to grow some balls and de.and that we start staffing these units the Detective Division and Patrol properly. They expect us to do our jobs properly, professionally and I an expedient manner but they don't gives us the equipment manpower or training to do so. Every member of this department should take as much time as is necessary to do their assignment correctly and thoroughly. If you rush or cut corners you will suffer the consequences
