Gangs Upgrading
- The shooting was one of at least 33 in Back of the Yards and Brighton Park over the past nine months that police believe are tied to semi-automatic rifles as several gangs boost their firepower. At least 46 people have been shot in the attacks, 13 fatally.
Police say this is the only area of the city where rifles styled after AR-15s and AK-47s are regularly used, a menacing new development in the gang fights.
It's unclear how many of the high-powered rifles are on the street, but police suspect they are being passed around by members of four Hispanic gangs in the Deering police district, which covers parts of the South and Southwest sides.

I'm sure they are using rifles all over the city. That being said, it still is something out of the ordinary when you see rifle casings on a crime scene.
However, having an assignment that takes me all throughout the city- that little pocket in 009 it is pretty much expected that nowadays there is a rifle used whenever anyone gets shot over there. Both sides involved in the main conflict seem to have multiple long-guns, and they have for a while....
Much more common there than most other parts of the city.

Well, one of the arguments of gun-grabbers for taking away law-abiding citizens' Evul Assault Rifles has routinely been demolished for years by pointing out that they weren't used that often to commit crimes.

The Back of the Yards and Brighton Park were once communities of European immigrants devoid of so much daily violence. What has happened since then?
I have a relative on a west suburban police department who is allowed to qualify, and carry locked in his vehicle an AR-15 in most platforms as a patrol rifle. But I cannot ever see the CPD approving such a policy. There are too many political interests that would consider such a move an over militarization of the CPD. Of course your safety is not part of their concern.
If your name is Trump or you generally support Trump, that is another matter. I found his speech at CPAC generally boring but when he demanded that we stop disrespecting police officers, the crowd was on its feet.
The solution is simple. Have the gang members complete ISR reports, tactical response reports and body worn cameras. Compliance with these three items will demoralize the gangbangers, tie them up with paperwork and waste most of their day. Stress diversity conditioning them to accept folks and people alike. Provide them with means of lesser force. Encourage the use of persuasion, acceptance, mutual respect, diversity and mutual understanding techniques to diffuse situations when confronted with deadly force with rifles. Gang members should be one forming an electoral coalition with aldermen, the states attorney, county board prospective mayoral candidates and national elected officials encouraging straight party voting blocks.
I gave up on applying for the carbine course after my 14th application.
They all want us at a severe disadvantage anyway.
I remember when the military was deployed to the airports wearing camos and carrying rifles after 911. People claimed it was too offensive. They wanted them to wear dress uniforms and carry sidearms only.
That's the same reason rifle qualification is stalled.

There was something about the sound of a pump shotgun racking in a round that seemed to command the attention of a perp, just isn't the same with a semiauto, god how I miss the good old days when the appearance of a shotgun silenced an idiot and if that didn't work the butt of the stock did.
If they are using rifles, and wounding that many, these people have terrible marksmanship skills. It's a good idea keeping rifles off the street. It is bad enough with all the pistols floating around, you don't want rifles and short barreled shotguns added to the mix.
Regarding the carbine qualification program being delayed:
The Street Carbine Program is over. It was only set up by Daley as part of the effort to get the Olympics. The program will fade away.
The democrats are still pushing gun control, especially "assault weapons". And the demilitarization of the police. No way they can support the police with those weapons. Especially in Chicago where, we all 'know', that the police are all brutal racist thugs.

I just came back from a trip to Europe and one thing I noticed was that all police worked in pairs and one carried an automatic rifles. And they had foot patrols at every major tourist attraction either local police or some form of military. Apparently they don't mess around over there anymore.
What do officers have to fight back? What does your typical beat car have, 2 officers with 2 pistols, some old timers still slinging a 6 shooter...
Are officers allowed to carry a shotgun in the vehicle and or a rifle? If not this is very dangerous. .

An exaggeration, but, according to people that I suppose are experts in these matters say that having a rifle in the trunk area of a police vehicle, just like our old Crown Vics and the new Explorers is like not having a rifle at all because when the shit hits the fan, you won't have time to go get it. While the U.K. Is a member of the European Union and is geographically detached but still in close proximity to the main continent of Europe, they have a history quite independent of many other European nation states. I think the original poster simply meant that the separation in land makes it quite distinguished. For example, other European countries separated by the Baltic Sea, such Norway, Sweden and Finland, are Scandinavian countries considered part of Europe but are often not considered traditionally European. Also, the Scandinavian countries have less of a history of VBIEDs, or "car bombs." One full sized and one compact that can accept the full
sized magazines in a pinch.
The most reliable ace-in-the-hole is STILL the compact hammerless
.38 Special revolver with good grips and loaded with those
soft-as-a-gumball 158 grain hollowpoints.

Bosses at 35th and Michigan are aware of these two problems and still fail to address it. Would all the Aldermen of the 009th district please give us some man power.
