Facebook Again
- A relative of a man who died after being shot along with five others Friday afternoon in the Austin neighborhood said social media led to his cousin's death.
"Facebook killed him, that's what did it," a man who said he was a cousin of the victim said as he looked over the shooting scene from behind yellow police tape. "They boxing over Facebook. It's so stupid."
The shooting happened shortly after 1:30 p.m. in the 5600 block of West Corcoran Place, just south of the CTA Green Line Central Avenue stop, according to police. Police estimated the person killed, who was taken Loyola University medical center and was pronounced dead, was age 17 to 19, but the relative said he was 23. Four other men and a teenage boy were wounded and all were in good condition at West Suburban Medical Center.
So the west side racking up numbers this spring in multiples. Six the other day, six today, doubles are almost as commonplace as rats. Some comments are saying this is all related to the United Center last week. If true, it must have been a heck of a grudge to rack up a body count this impressive.

Not really sure why a district that is so short handed is going to have bike units up? Is it because :
A) The city handles it's money like a retarded kid high off Pixie Stix, and they don't have the vehicles available because of wasteful spending.
B) Some mentally deficient Brass and dumb Alder-Scum believe in the community policing theory that bike cops somehow miraculously improve relationships with citizens while looking like dorks pedaling about the neighborhood.
C) Now that foot chase pursuits are going to have policy, the city believes it found a loop hole for proactive young cops, that drink the Kool-Aid, to still bring in the numbers.
D) All of the above because this department is so pathetically incompetent, it wouldn't get a bid of 10 cents if it were a product being auctioned on ebay.
I would really like some meritorious moron to answer this. It's bad enough the district is low on manpower to the point that they struggle to keep rapids up, but to then have bike units up is mind boggling. I don't want to hear any bullshit about the bikes being a silent, stealthy tool to catch 'bad guys,' either. In this day and age, it is through sheer blind luck that some bike copper hasn't gotten blasted after making the wrong turn on some shitty street corner.
So this isn't even a semi coherent reason like a drug business dispute? How many need to die for a diss?

However, if officers are going to engage in foot pursuits and many do despite the advice of many here, couldn't there be some training on best practices for foot pursuit? Those who have done it probably have some lessons to share, but there is no place to share these lessons. You can google "foot pursuit police" or some variation and find numerous articles about foot pursuits that have resulted in officers being hurt. There are also articles with advice on how to do foot pursuits safely, because ultimately, the number one rule is for officers to go home safely, and not get penalized for trying to get the bad guy. Maybe the bosses can get together, nominate their people who like to chase, put them together and come up with a "best practices" for officers who do chase without getting hurt and sharing lessons on best techniques for catching those who flee?

Interesting bit of History, the narrator stated that in the year 1932 there were 365 murders. This was at the height of prohibition, when the mobs were at full power, and Chicago had more people. And yet 700 murders per year or more is normal nowadays.

I agree. When I worked in 025 the rapids were filled with old timers that cryed all the time. They felt entitled because of their seniority even the everyone else on afternoons thought they were idiots. One guy got ran off the watch to days because he was such a drama queen on the air. Obama phones are all those cheap old flip phone designs. I volunteer at homeless shelters during the winter and spring. Many of these people, some who are working poor, have Apple I phones and other brands of smart phones. Don't fool yourself. It seems that unemployed gang bangers and homelesss people seem to find the money for good gym shoes and smart phones. Never ceases to amaze me.

The police station shown in the movie is not the previous 009th District station at 35th & Lowe. Although physicaly quite similar, the station shown in the movie was the New City Station at 47th & Paulina.

Why so worried about bikes, it's voluntary. Stay hidden in your car with the windows rolled up whining about everyone else. Mind your own business. Maybe your the officer that can't pass the powertest for the summer bike detail and hates on everyone. Get some years on, than you could get to the airport and ride a segway and still complain how you had to walk from your car to get the segway. Wow 025 bitches about nonsense.

You assume a lot, don't you little fella? Judging by the idiotic simplicity of your post, I'll just assume you are a millenial copper that thinks this job is legit. You were picked on in high school so now you feel like a tough guy with a gun. You either work as a bike cop stroke, or aspire to be one. I will go even further and assume that you haven't gotten laid in a year or possibly never. It's really simple granola boy: If you don't like the comments about 025, then don't read them. This probably isn't the first time, nor will it be the last, that simple logic that a two year old can understand was explained to you. If you don't work in 011 or 015, you should strongly think about bidding to one of them. They are currently looking for sheep willing to get in stupid foot and car chases. You might even get really lucky and get in a bike chase if you play your cards right.

Way, way back, I worked in the old 009 at 35th & Lowe with police officers who previously worked at the New City Station during the filming of NOrthside 777.
If you guys want to see another old-school Chicago cop movie, check out 'The City That Never Sleeps,' from 1953 starring Gig Young.
That jagoff Rahm-hole coulda prevented this, just by erecting a "NO FACEBOOK ZONE" sign.
