- Garrett Popcorn Shops lost a legal fight a few years ago to keep calling its famed carmel- and cheese-flavored popcorn the “Chicago Mix.” That apparently hasn’t stopped the chain from embracing the Chicago Way.
The Chicago for Rahm Emanuel campaign committee recently reported getting a total of $15,000 from three executives of Garrett Brands — which will open two Garrett Popcorn Shops outlets at Midway Airport under the airport concessions deal approved earlier this year by the mayor and aldermen.
It’s just the latest example of money flying into Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s campaign coffers from people who are profiting from the ongoing overhaul of Midway concessions.
Did somebody not take their Ethics Test this year?
- The contributions to Emanuel from the new Midway restaurants and shops aren’t covered by an executive order the mayor signed on the first day he took office in 2011. He vowed not to take contributions from companies that do business with the city.
The executive order doesn’t prohibit campaign contributions from these businesses at Midway — even though they make tens of millions of dollars a year by getting to open shop at Chicago’s No. 2 airport.
Technically, Emanuel aides have pointed out, the brands that go into business there do not have contracts with the city.

airport. Nothing is off limits to this viper. The Feds need to do
a sting on his ass. Nothing like federal tax money used to upgrade
and improve airports and a weasel politician working the shakedown.

That's just the donations they have to report for tax purposes, it's the cash filled, savory manila envelopes that are the real "Chicago Mix"...

After having completed the online ethics course and quiz for years, I've wondered why it is prepared and written in such a convoluted and legalese manner.
.....Oh wait, who the fuck am I kidding.

$15,000 in 3 payments is minuscule for Garrett's ($5000 per is the limit to PACs).
That wouldn't even cover 1/3 of their monthly lease for the airport concession space.
Maybe the Garrett's provide heavily to various PAC's indirectly controlled by Rahm's lackeys.
City candidates, especially perennial losers, that collect thousands/millions of dollars and lose should be required to forfeit that money to pension obligations, before they pay relatives on their committee staff and then default on bill payments. .
(Rush, Mosley-Braun, Jackson, etc)

And he will still get reelected. If the machine wants him to be mayor he won't be going anywhere.
If the machine wants him, they'll pay off any potential challenger and it will be the same old song and dance just like it was with Daley.
In 2019 another chump like Chuy Garcia will be up against him and it will be a slam dunk for Rahm.
Emanuel has been in office for 6 years. Normally you can't get rid of somebody after they've established themselves as Daley did.
Just forced out the owners of Rielly S Daughter, and Schaeller pump out of group. Small white businessmen removed, names will be the same run by Rahms guys. No say in nothing, all employees let go.

Went thru Midaway this past week. Wanted to grab a coffee from McDonalds. Its gone. How strange.
I won't buy Garrett's anymore. Mariano's is cheaper and pretty good.
