Why is this not newsworthy? There was a short foot chase, a gun recovered, a crime scene and an arrest.
Does the media just assume that wherever there are large numbers of African-Americans - men, women, children - that gunfire is a normal occurrence that isn't at all newsworthy?

Let me say this. It was a damn miracle nobody got hit!!!! The best part about it was that not a single of the hundred or so witnesses which including many many young children with their relatives could give a description of the person that fired the one round. Yet all wanted to gather and mf the police when this shooter was caught as dirty as can be. And hey why stop a parade where thousands of children are in attendance when this really was an active shooter. This culture will never get it yet we are the ones that must reform to this kind of behavior. Good job by all police involved but the shit show must go on
This is a fact. I was a supervisor on scene 43/King. Great job by the 002nd District tact team and guys on bikes. There was shots fired in a crowd. Bad guy shoots in the crowd and takes off running. 002 tact guys give out a detailed flash message and the shit head gets caught with the gun. Nice job on all who were involved!

All I could do was laugh and shake my head. When co-workers questioned, I told them they just wouldn't understand. THAT'S the real problem.

I turned on the Bud Billiken Parade on Channel 7 and was completely turned off by the "ghetto talking" reporters. They weren't speaking in their usual Channel 7 "official journalist" voice but more of a "git down wif yo' selves" ghetto yap to "blend in with the scene".
Either talk right or talk ghetto, but don't switch based on the surroundings.
The Channel 7 "Elite" reporters have nothing in common with families on the South Side. To break down and talk like them is condescending - Not only to them, but to all the viewers as well.
No coverage of this either in the mainstream media we are number one this should help with tourism and bringing more business here correct mayor?

An active shooter incident at one of the largest parades in the country attended by families, and not one word in the media?
Why? The truth can't be revealed. Inner city urban low income African American communities have a gun violence problem, and a compliance problem. A young African American male fires a handgun into a crowd that contains families with young babies and grandmothers, and this action is done within sight and sound of numerous uniformed police officers. It is hard to believe that someone would take such reckless and unreasonable action. To report this would lead credibility to police officers who engage these armed subjects and state that they are in fear of their lives. It would also allow people to see that the actions of many of these offenders are incredible and beyond outrageous. Police officers patrolling these communities see this and live this every day and have every reason to be in fear of their lives when taking enforcement action with individuals who are so reckless and unrestrained that they would fire into a crowd where young families and elderly gather to enjoy a parade. Or this lack of coverage is a statement by the media that an active shooter incident at one of the largest parades in the country is not news when it is in an African American community because that is considered normal behavior.
No coverage of this incident is evidence of the media bias in this city and country.
And I am not a racist; the KKK and Nazi's in Virginia are evil and deplorable. Hate is hate, and truth is truth. Media cover the truth. We had an active shooter at the Bud Billiken parade, and the police did a great job in capturing the offender and recovering his weapon before anyone was killed.

How do you know who or what they have in common with families on the south side or whether or not they are from the south side themselves...or how they speak when the cameras not on? I'm all for polished and professional presentations but in honesty I've realized that our everyday lives are littered with working, and college educated, people who do not read, write, spell or speak their primary language properly. I've found gaping errors on websites of accredited colleges, of course print media and let's not even get into case reports. Point is if you don't like it, do like the rest of us and turn it off. but you're making a lot of assumptions about people you don't seem to know personally.

The African American anchors at ABC 7 cut a commercial showing their support for the Billiken Parade. After seeing all of them together, it isn't surprising that the local news focus is on "the community." The ABC 7 news in a nutshell: opening story is hating on President Trump, followed by the latest happening in "the community," weather, a cute animal story, and then sports. Yawn. Every day same old thing.
Why are you guys even watching the news. I watch the first 2-3 minutes of the 10:00 news just to see if there have been any OIS and if not then I change the channel. Why watch it? They are not going to tell you the truth or report on anything of substance. They only thing the news does today is rip the Police and President Trump. Think about it. What's the main theme on the news recently. What are the talking heads all talking about? The horrific murder of a young girl down in Virginia or what President Trump did or did not say? They are as phoney as a three dollar bill. Even professional wrestling is more legit than the news media.

An active shooter at the parade? I thought that's what the unarmed recruits from the academy were supposed to prevent. When the media seems to be gleefully describing a white offender after an incident, they leave their audience to just assume the race of an offender when another incident is reported.
When the race is not given, the assumption is the offender is black or Hispanic. This is often narrowed down when a name is given, especially an obviously Hispanic name, then the offender is black because Asians commit very little crime or are smart enough to rarely get caught.
But another thing happens. When television news reporters seem to happily report a white offenders race, they alienate their white audience because that same audience see them not report the crime committed by minorities.
So, to almost all television reporters, a big F U!

Followed then by more anti trump babble for the next half hour. Started again this am with Hillary ass kisser Paul lisnek slamming trump. Then another 10 minutes of some preacher asking to change names of Washington and Jackson parks because it's offensive. Channel 9 is totally in the bag for Rahm.
