Search....and Search Again
- A loaded gun was found in the trash Tuesday at Cook County Jail near an area where new inmates are brought.
The jail went on lockdown about 6:45 a.m. after correctional officers found the Kel-Tec .32-caliber handgun while emptying the trash, said Cara Smith, chief policy officer at the sheriff's office. At 1 p.m., Smith said she expected the lockdown to end shortly.
The gun was found near the area where new prisoners are dropped off before bond court, Smith said. Sheriff's officials suspect that an outside law enforcement agency failed to find the gun on a defendant before bringing the individual to the jail, she said.
Smith speculated that the person tossed the weapon in the trash after realizing jail officials would likely find it.

Glad that he or she didn't try to use it to escape.
This one is gonna bite everyone from the AOs to the transporting POs (if applicable) to lockup personnel to the wagon guys who took jagoff to CBC.
Guess who'll walk away unscathed... as usual? That's right. The DSS or WOL who approved initial PC and the DSS or WOL who approved final PC.
Search, search, search is right. Thankfully no coppers were hurt (or worse) because of this oversight.
WHOOOO!
Somebody(s) missed a pistol
on a custodial search?
The pistol was planted and the
dirty m/fer it was planted for
couldn't get to it?
A dirty m/fer picked it up
on the Blue-Bird?
"Integrity Check?"
Note:
Beware m/fers with "big hair."
And speaking of shit magically
appearing/disappearing...
Just now we were trying to remember
the name of the silly-assed Lt./Inspector
whose favorive trick was to "Steal" officer's hats from
unlocked cars and write them up for it.
He allegedly was going to catch a trimming
when a Copper saw him lifting a sky piece
and alerted the victim Coppers and the
dirty prick had the nerve to deny having the hat.
...At first.
Protect yourselves first and always.
I guess community policing means looking the other way when observing a suspicious subject in your community. Good to know, but I could just as easily look the other way while living in a nice 'burb.
I don't buy this story Dart is selling. My spider sense tells me this was more of a plant that was discovered. Dart has to say it was a PO who's prisoner must of tossed it upon arrival at the jail. I call bullshit. What choice does Dart have but to spin this story to put himself in a better position rather then a headline that could have read "Dart needs to explain unsecured Cook County Jail after gun located ." It's a secure facility (sarcasm) with plenty of cameras. It should be easy to figure who dropped the pistol.

Possibly the stupidest comment you ever threw at us dude. "The DSS or WOL ??" They're supposed to search all prisoners now too?
Being fetal does not exclude being careful.
If you're fetal you don't have to search anyone.
A Kel-Tec P-32 is sooo small a big dude could tuck it where the sun don't shine and it wouldn't be discovered until a cheek-spread strip search.
Guess crook county is gonna blame cpd for this bullshit? Could it be that it was put there to possibly make it inside into the hands of one of societies outstanding citizens? No cameras around to capture what may have happened? Be like President Trump...get your facts before you start blaming.
"Guess who'll walk away unscathed... as usual? That's right. The DSS or WOL who approved initial PC and the DSS or WOL who approved final PC."
Why would the DSS or WOL be responsible for another officer not searching his or her prisoner, if that is the case? Does your DSS and WOL search your prisoners prior to approving your reports or do you do what you are supposed to do for your and everyone's safety and perform a custodial search?
Sounds like another snowflake just out of the academy who is too good and important to put hands on someone.
Sounds Like an inside Job to me. Arresting officers miss a gun at street level protective pat down and custodial search (possible), transporting unit if it was another squad miss it too... (possible), while being processed he was acting suspiciously and any other officer didn't notice.... (possible), Lockup personnel who search you like finding a needle in a Haystack also miss it.... (possible). The offender did leave in the police station. cell after being removed to go to the County..(not smart..but possible). The Crook County Sheriff Transportation Unit conduct their search and they look for any reason not to transport...they didn't find it either...(Impressive). Once prisoners arrive at County at the "Bridge", (before Bond Court) it's announced "Good Morning Lady's, Place your toes on the white line and nobody is allowed to move from this position until everyone is searched...(Really, Really, Really). I'm aware that at this moment in time they might find a bag of weed and that offender is returned to the District if Detention for addition charging and possible SPAR for poor Search. But never...for a Gun throughout all the layers of checks and balances that gi into moving an offender that deep into the "Congo".
So many hiding spots, their stinking ass area, their hair look everywhere, the scum could of killed law enforcement! We all know stories about hidden weapons!
Then over here closer to this shitshow crime capital close but no cigar as they say:
13 accused 'Columbus Clique' MS-13 gang members arrested in Ohio, Indiana
http://www.foxnews.com/us/2017/08/16/13-accused-columbus-clique-ms-13-gang-members-arrested-in-ohio-indiana.html
Praying and hoping that soon they will arrive here, we could use a couple of thousand of homeland security officers to lock up these scumbags, the politicians that protect and are affiliated with criminal enterprises need to be indicted also! When the thugs see a massive influx and "real arrests" where they all go federal and not placed in "tommys food mall" "hows da pizza?" and getting 10 years minimum sentences for gun crimes, shipped states away from their homies and thug families, then we would have change and a rebuilt city-state-county!

Near an area...
Maybe it was already inside?
No, no, nope, not our bad. Must be those other guys.
Beware M/f'ers w/big hair
Solution: Shave everyone's head when they come to jail. Problem solved. Just do it with a tyvek suit so you don't catch lice or scabies...
1230am.....why WOULD the DSS or the WOL get jammed up on this exactly? Last time I checked they don't search our prisoners before they go into lockup. Goof
So, what you are saying is that I should drop my shit-ass attitude to the lock-up keepers if they ask me to search my prisoner in front of them??

inmate was not identified, how can the A/Os be in trouble???
why would the DSS or WOL be held accountable if the A/Os were known???
does the DSS and WOLL now need to search prisoners???
This is a serious problem. I worked with a guy many years ago who has since passed away. He was assigned to pick up a prisoner from a suburban department and take him to Markham court for a bond hearing. I, as his supervisor, had to meet up with him for something and decided to meet him at the Markham courthouse before he pulled into the secured bay. I pulled up next to him and saw that the prisoner was not handcuffed and was smoking a cigarette next to him in the front seat. Needless to say he was removed from the vehicle, searched, and cuffed before being taken into the Markham lockup. I asked him what the hell he was thinking and he said the prisoner "was a nice guy". WTF! I tried to write him up but he was best friends with the platoon sergeant and they had an outside painting gig together so it didn't go anywhere. There are coppers out there that have no common sense. Search, and search again, or you could end up being responsible for another cops murder. This is no game.

Quit being a doomsdayer. How can anybody get jammed up? They don't know who or when the gun was put in the garbage. It could have been put in the garbage during an 8 hour period. What are they going to do? Ask all the prisoners that were processed during that time "did you dump a gun in the garbage". If he's smart enough to dump it he's smart enough to deny it
So...easy way for them to figure out what agency missed it; as they don't care about what mutt had it secreted. Is to offer all mutts that where brought in around that time extra toppings on their pizza and maybe some cheezey bread sticks at the next Dart sponsored pizza sworay to admit they had got the pistol past the coppers. Then the Country will make the beef against the coopers from where ever they are from. See that's how things now work in Bizarre-o-world. No reason to actually do anything but the job, no reason to be proactive and all-TJ Hooker anymore. Good luck all.
Maybe it was planted for someone on the inside to get to use.
Well common sense would say to check for fingerprints seeing
as they have all been fingerprinted during processing.
IFIYGD is correct. The DSS and/or WOL are ultimately responsible for any body that comes thru their facility, they don't have to physically touch (search) a prisoner to have culpability in whatever happens to/with that arrestee. Their names/electronic signatures are all over the process from beginning to end.
And YES, it WAS a CPD arrestee. These things ain't hard to figure out. Everyone as stated will be getting dinged. Only we'll have to wait to see who gets what. Prediction - white shirts nothing, blue shirts a couple days.

They don't know when it was put in the garbage and no inmate is fool enough to be admitting to bringing the gun into a jail. News flash. Maybe that's why he hide it, didn't want to be caught and now he will admit it. Biggest fool in the world knows he's getting charged if he admits it

We like how you think...
Cue:
BIG, bad, gun-bangin, dick-swingin', death-lovin' m/fer
bawlin' like a suckling calf as his artfully crafted coif
is shorn from his noggin during intake processing.
"Yeah, just a little off the top an' shit..."
>BZZZZZRRRT!<
"uuh-WAAAHHHH!
WOTDAFUK!"
Make it even better...
Paint that freshly buzzed nugget with a
loud, glow-in-the-dark paint so you can
see them when the lights go out.
410 PM gets it.
I didn't think I'd have to cite references on how everybody from arresting officers to transport officers to lockup personnel to desk crews to watch commanders can get caught up when stupid shit happens. Google "Christina Eilman" and see what those 008th District folks went through. Not a similarly detailed incident by a long shot, but enough blame to go around when things got shitty. That gun arrived with a CPD arrestee taken to county, a fact that will be revealed in due time. If you think this whole incident will just quietly go away you're delusional. Unless, of course, some clout-heavy merit hack has his or her name attached.
Point of my response to all the knuckleheads bashing me? Anyone... ANYONE whose name or PC# touched that arrestee's paperwork WILL have to answer some questions down the road. What will remain to be seen is exactly how any discipline gets meted out.
Again, glad no coppers got hurt or worse.
They have reviewed all the surveillance footage and have pinpointed the person who brought the weapon in. Yes hate to say it but it was one of your fine outstanding ghetto individuals delivered there by CPD. Little Tommy wants to make an example of it because he thinks it will help his run for mayor. I am this/close to the investigation as I work at intake at 26th. Not sure how you guys handle discipline over at CPD but Mr. Fart described how shit rolls uphill downhill and across the hill when it's time to assign blame which is how it happens here when someone steps on their peepee. Only the big cheeses seem to be able to skip getting hammered.

If it's that easy to figure, then why did they not see who put it in the garbage. If the garbage can hadn't been emptied for 24 hrs then anyone during that could have put it there. Yea we got the good detectives. They solve what 19% of the crime and mass transit has where 90% of the crime isn't solved. Yea this is easy because of electronic signatures. Everyone knows who was processed but don't have any idea when the crime happened
For what it's worth, I once got three guns off one guy.

You are a goof
The prisoner was arrested by Dart's Electronic Monitoring Unit and brought directly to jail. The CPD is not involved in any way. Surveillance footage caught the whole thing, the prisoner was identified and gave a statement indicating he was not searched by Dart's EM Unit. This has not been reported in the press. The inference is that the CPD screwed up. Not the case.
Confirmed by several Deputy Sheriffs.
YOU CAN NOT PREFORM A STRIP SEARCH... criminal have been known to put stuff, dope and weapons in there Butts, etc.... who knows where he had that gun hidden prior to tossing it

Eddie Johnson and Rahm will also have to do time using your logic. Hell maybe the governor and ultimately Trump will get jammed up over this gun.

Ask the ghouls at the M.E. office about the interesting
places where the formerly animated have stashed weapons and contraband.

Yes they do. Paper identified him and he was charged accordingly
Are you surprised? There is probably a gun in every alley in Chicago..
