- A Chicago Public Schools principal has been barred from an alternative high school operating in the Cook County Jail following allegations that she falsified student data.
Sheriff Tom Dart issued the ban Wednesday, saying he agrees with a report by the CPS inspector general that recommended Sharnette Sims be fired. He said starting Thursday, Sims won't be allowed to enter the jail.
In the report, Nicholas Schuler called York Alternative High School "a credit mill."
Schuler says York routinely granted attendance and course credit to students who had left the jail or been moved to solitary confinement where they couldn't attend classes. One student who was released from jail and killed a week later was still listed as attending classes.
Not only do the dead vote in Cook County, they attend CPS classes, costing the taxpayers even more money.

The Chicago Tribune tried to put the best spin on this
but just mentioned facts with no mention of the inmates
being used as pawns in a RICO case.

That last sentence of the article made me almost choke on my dinner laughing.
Typical, just continuing CPS policy. If you can't get prisoners to attend class what does it say about the teacher and the student. To bad she wasn't teaching college classes.
Yhere are over 5000 + taxing bodies in Illinois according to the Illinois Policy Institute. The Chicago Public Schools are one of the five thousand. CPS is a bureaucracy. A natural course of bureaucracies is to grow and to increase their budgets as they grow. Waste and inefficiency are natural byproducts.
Lots of good intentions tugging at your emotions,but in reality your trying to change a cutural, a lifestyle, an everyday way of life with taxpayer money. Just another example of waste much like programs that teach honor roll caliber CPS graduates how to fill out a job application.

Dart says Sims won't be allowed to enter the jail. She should be allowed to enter.......as a prisoner.

Sounds about right, no doubt attendance records in all of the CPS high schools is about as accurate. CTU needs to justify more teachers so they can collect the union dues to buy more politicians. Principles are teachers with more clout, just like a lot of white shirts.

The link to the Fox News story was blocked so I looked for the story elsewhere. Found some colorful details on the "Chicago Tonight" report:
CPS requires students be disenrolled before turning 22 years old, but the OIG investigation found some students were still receiving credits even after turning 27, 28 or 29, according to the report. The OIG also alleged the school likely underreported chronic misconduct incidents later reported by teachers there.
The report said those included “assaults; chronic classroom masturbation; students inebriated during class after drinking ‘hooch’ that they made in their toilets; flooding and water damage caused by students clogging toilets with mattresses; and threatening conduct by an organized faction of students who committed sexual assaults in the jail.”
