Officers Not Wanted
Even for a premise check:
- During vri lakefront last night on XX-nov-17 in the area between Illinois- grand and lake shore drive (apartment building on west side of lake shore). So 500 lake shore drive. We went in to warm up and were immediately approached (didn’t even have time to removed our hats) by a female manager who stated we weren’t welcomed because the staff and most of the residents were always concerned to see the police in their building and were uncomfortable with us there. We were asked to then leave and basically to stay out of site.
And here we thought that Michigan Avenue VRI was a good thing, welcomed by the citizens paying some of the highest taxes in the nation. Just goes to show you....

Ugh. So they are concerned, so just tell them we are warming up. I am so tired of these people. Years ago, an offender who beat up a cab driver and took his phone was running to a high rise on Diversey. The doormen held the doors closed so he couldn't get in and we could catch them.
Not surprised at all. The hatred and false narrative about us has spread like a cancer to every race, gender, economic status, and so on. We have been labeled as the enemy. When in reality we are the only ones who stand in the way of complete chaos and evil. I have experienced that type of treatment many times. I avoid stating what I do for a living as much as possible. I was a patient recently in a Suburban Hospital for a serious medical condition and after learning of my employment I was treated like scum of the earth by doctors. One woke me up from sleep by pulling on my leg like it was time for the lockup. My advice is avoid any interactions with the people or folks of our wonderful Illinois communities as much as possible. And don't spend your RDO's with anyone outside of your immediate family. Everyone else hates us.
Next time a job comes in from there because the police are needed, remember, you are not wanted.

Myself and other police officers and city workers in Mt Greenwood are the only reason our civilian neighbors property is worth anything, yet they don't even have the courtesy to let you have a parking spot in front of your own house. You're welcome for me increasing your property value and allowing you to take equity from your house to send your kid to college. If we didn't reside here, your neighborhood would be a toilet with no value and no equity. Thanks again.
And if a homeless person was passed out in the lobby they would want the police there immediately to remove him/her.

I believe this is unethical and possibly against building policy to ask cops or other on duty workers to leave if the reason is 'because it makes the residents uncomfortable' when the cops just walked in and didn't do anything to make anybody feel uncomfortable. Who ever asked the cops to leave should be fired and the employer should be sued for the offensive actions and remarks to the cops. The cops who were asked to leave should, at least, make a phone call and find out what the policy is on this issue to see if there were any violations. I don't think anybody would have walked up to a couple of electricians and asked them to leave because their presence was making people feel uncomfortable. That would just be rude. And it would be perfectly understandable if the electricians reply was 'fuck you we are doing our jobs' if they were asked to leave. They have the right to feel uncomfortable but if they're employees of the building representing a company who hired them then they have no right to treat cops or anybody else like second class citizens. Hold people accountable. Call them out. Make them face the music. Their attitudes will change quickly if they face consequences for their words and actions.
I'm sure we could find some people who live in that building who would be outraged if one of the managers asked the cops to leave.
Maybe they could have a talk with their staff to assure that the police are a welcome sight in the times we are living in. Some people appreciate having the police around.

You need to call Curt Bailey the president of Midwest Properties which manages 500 N. Lake Shore Drive and numerous others. You can reach him at 312 595 7400. Bailey is also one of the directors of the Greater North Michigan Association. You can imagine all the service they get from CPD. Call him and tell him how offended you were by being kicked out of one of his buildings and is this their standard policy. Ask him how do you respond to a call for service in the building, should you cover yourself in a burka so as not to offend the manager or residents. Also call the business liason person in 018 so they know what's going on. These companies soak up a lot of police service.

Years ago, after working in 011, I transferred to 018. I was working in Cabrini Green most of the time but one day I was assigned to a car working the very beat mentioned above. Got a paper job in one of those hi-rises. After completing it I was ready to leave when the complainant told me that the next time, if I ever had to come back, to please use the side entrance like the delivery men, paper boys and other "peons". I stayed in the jets even when I went upstairs to Tact. I vote Republican but I have no love or compassion for the 1%, especially those that make their living by shuffling papers back and forth in the investment field (like Mitt Romney and other vulture capitalists who buy companies on the cheap then lay off the workers).

Worked VRI on Michigan Avenue years ago at Oak and Michigan.
We were outside Spiaggia and would take turns. Across the street was an apartment building with a lobby and chairs . We went over there to sit for a minute. It was like 20 and the wind was hollowing . A couple of ladies brought us down fresh made cookies. An older Jewish lady profusely thanked us for being there...Location Location Location. Must have been a bunch of Hillary supporters on grand sorry boys.

Train the call takers to inform residents of these exclusive buildings to instruct residents calling the police for service to meet the Officers outside the building, since management will not allow police into the building.

Have Immigration check the maintenance staff at that building out for proof of citizenship.
The tenants, like all high-rise tenants, love to illegally park in front to just run up for something. Stand out front and write parkers on a regular basis.

Oh boy, I sure hope the youth of the south and west sides don’t realize that the residents of 500 N. Lake Shore Dr. have declared their building to be a “Police free zone”. Those kids may then get the idea that they can hang out there without having to behave properly. Oh well, I’m sure the residents there have a very good reason for not wanting the Police to be looking out for them. Good for those residents who feel they can protect their life and property themselves!

CPD has always been able to hang out in our lobby to get warm/have coffee/talk to residents for 20+ years. But then again, they've always asked and not just invited themselves in. The Bureau of Patrol folks are friendly and cool, so we like them. There's got to be more to this than "we were immediately kicked out of a building we don't have the address of."
And I know it's fun for you guys to shit on "rich liberals" (spoiler: we're not liberals here), but it's really tiresome. Just remember us "rich liberals" the next time taxes go up to pay for more VRI, or misconduct lawsuits at a million a week for the last 10 years.

Remember the department is run from City Hall now days more than ever. We are just pawns in this whole game.
Stand out front, inevitably you will be asked if something happened, then say a narcotic and prostitution investigation.

Whenever I see the police/sheriffs car driving though the neighborhood I smile and wave a friendly hello. I (we) want the police presence in our neighborhood.
We were in Central Florida (Kissimmee/St Cloud) visiting our oldest and his family for Thanksgiving week. Was surprised at the number of signs on peoples lawns stating "support the blue line" or "respect the blue" along with the blue flag alongside the Stars and Stripes. Our favorite mom and pop fish house had a large poster sized blue shield/badge on the front entrance. Not everyone has bought into the garbage the so called elites are trying to force on everyone else.

I was a patient recently in a Suburban Hospital for a serious medical condition and after learning of my employment I was treated like scum of the earth by doctors. One woke me up from sleep by pulling on my leg like it was time for the lockup. My advice is avoid any interactions with the people or folks of our wonderful Illinois communities as much as possible. And don't spend your RDO's with anyone outside of your immediate family. Everyone else hates us.

Actually the address of the building is not 3100. It's the corner highrise building on the west side of the drive at Belmont. Probably 3150. Cops probably went in there to warm up because it's on their post. All well. Just stay away.

Those 'misconduct lawsuits' are usually settled with an outrageous offer on the City's part, instead of a proper defense. You can blame your elected officials for that, not the police. Anyone can file a lawsuit, whether it's based in fact, or not. The City has a bad habit of gifting large amounts of cash to these people/folks, rather than putting the time and effort into vindicating us.

He plays the card like he is out for my best interest but then when no one looks uses his political power to prevent me from getting surgery for my IOD injury because it will prove the pattern of his false narrative he is working so hard on so I have nothing. The so called 'misconduct' settlements are payback money to the law firms who donated big cash to Emanuel's war chest. But the media doesn't tell you that. You are very misinformed about misconduct lawsuits. The city settles and pays out on the cases instead of defending the cases even when the allegation has no merit to it. The city claims it's doing that to save taxpayer money when they're actually robbing taxpayers by settling knowing that this encourages frivolous lawsuits. The lawyers suing know this. The fix is in. I found this to be an interesting read. For every stupid attack you made on the police, you countered with one nice thing. Glad I don't work down there. Whenever I am detailed downtown I try to stay away from any establishment and citizens. Most don't care about us or say nice things. There isn't more to the story. I work in 018 and more than once I've been asked to leave the area while sitting in my squad car in front of a high rise doing a report. If it happens again you better believe I'm gonna complain about it and if they think an apology will be good enough they're wrong. Walking away and being silent about it won't change a thing. You claim 018 police are 'awful to residents.' It's a stretch to say the least but even if they were nasty to the people, its just karma. You reap what you sow. What goes around comes around. Treat cops like second class citizens and you'll get treated like second class citizens.

I have had more positive and thankful comments in the past year than I did my whole career. And don't get me wrong, the hate from the rest of the assholes in the district is worse too. I heard a 9 year old girl say "I really don't like white people" as we responded to a battery job. But the smart people in the ghetto realize what's happened to police since Ferguson and Obamas attempted race war. And they stand with us.

Private property owners can keep both military and police out of their property unless official police business requires their presence. As for the military see ammendment III of the bill of rights.
Active duty military can’t order the police to do anything except maybe under marshal law.
I myself have locked up 3 active duty military, in uniform for crimes committed in the city.

These are not cheap properties.

You need to call Curt Bailey the president of Midwest Properties which manages 500 N. Lake Shore Drive and numerous others. You can reach him at 312 595 7400. Bailey is also one of the directors of the Greater North Michigan Association. You can imagine all the service they get from CPD. Call him and tell him how offended you were by being kicked out of one of his buildings and is this their standard policy. Ask him how do you respond to a call for service in the building, should you cover yourself in a burka so as not to offend the manager or residents. Also call the business liason person in 018 so they know what's going on. These companies soak up a lot of police service.

The phone calls will go no where with that stroke.
Better option is to focus on the parking violations you can find there. LSD is no parking and Peshitgo Court is either meters or flashing lights required zones or no parking at all. You can even enter the Parking Garage to check for City Stickers.
They can't kick you from the garage while you warm up and check registrations any more than they can kick out the Clerk or Finance people.

It appears to have occured at 500 S. Not N. I was told 20 yrs ago by a SJW that she didn't feel safe when the police were around. I couldn't get through her thick skull that she was very safe when the police were present. That she actually couldn't possibly be any safer. She kept repeating, I don't feel safe when the police are out front..... Just goes to show you can't fix stupid.

We really Don't protect anyone. How many times have we stopped a rape or murder in progress. Hardly never. We show up later and take a report. But we do write traffic tickets for bullshit to get our mover and get people pissed at us. When we get into a jam it's never for stopping a serious crime in progress but for stopping someone cause they look kinky. We seek what we sow.

Speak for yourself, slug. When I used to work I chased many people with guns, ran after shooters, ran towards gunfire. Ive had plenty of injuries and never went on the medical. Did I do that for myself? I've interrupted multiple robberies in progress that, according to victims of accounts, would probably turn into a homicide. You sound like a complete snowflake. This is real life, not the Truman show. We don't have a crystal ball that will put us in a series of events where we can prevent a crime. The fact is is that we put our lives on the line when the time calls for it. Who else does that? If you really are a cop, this is fucking sad. I have great love and admiration for the bravery I have witnessed on countless occasions by coworkers , truly selfless and good people. Things get ugly because humanity can be ugly. While I don't write them, I won't knock guys that do. You do realize that writing tickets of all sorts is a necessary and integral part of law enforcement and civil order, don't you?
