A round of applause to DC Ryan for correcting (or acting confused - it was hard to tell) when a reporter kept asking about the "victim" in yesterday's shooting. Just as a quick reminder to the morons, the Police Office is the victim of the Assault (Handgun) by the deceased offender.

As someone asked in the comment section, "We tweet evidence now?" We don't recall that one in the orders, but it's been a few years since we took a promotional exam. This will be Exhibit A for anyone brought up for "tweeting" or "facebooking" a crime scene selfie.
Also particularly disturbing was at least two media outlets "reporting" that COPA-cabana was investigating whether the now-deceased had actually fired his weapon.
Um, what now? If this is something new in the COPA-cabana directives, we're going to have to strenuously object. There is nothing in any law, anywhere in the United States that says Officers have to take fire to return fire. In fact, there isn't a Department policy nationwide that we've ever heard of that says that. The mere act of pointing a gun at an officer, or any innocent bystander, is grounds for an officer or legally armed citizen, to lawfully shoot an offender.
Perhaps the Department should spearhead some sort of Public Service Announcement so that offenders, the "community" and members of the media become slightly familiar with State Law and Use of Force.

I’m not sure all the thoughts I have about COPA would get past the SCC censors, but suffice it to say that they suck, exponentially.

Nice seeing a CALEA inspector wandering around the 11th district today seeing if its up to CALEA standards, wonder if Captain Stresso brought him down into the dungeons(locker rooms) , it smells delightful down there along with the ceilings falling in and the tactically placed garbage bag over the weekly broken urinal in the hallway (which by the way was completely taken apart at the beginning of the year). Not a hope of getting accreditation. Can't put lipstick on a Pig ! (no pun intended)

Straight from the mouth of Corporation Council the last time I was involved in a lawsuit. When they do jury selection, the majority of the jury candidates believe police officers are supposed to be shot at first before firing. They also believe we are supposed to take three punches before hitting back. The ignorance is rampant. TV is reality to the brain dead masses. They know the law because they watch TV crime dramas. I have a relative that’s a cop in a European country and that is what they expect there. The cop has to get shot at first and then he can return fire. I fear this is where we are headed in the future ..(I also noted that as a result they don’t do shut. A call comes out and they take 20 minutes to resond..)

While watching the report by Mark Suppelsa on Channel 9 news yesterday he stated that, "the gunman DIDNOT fire at police but officers say they felt threatened". (He emphasized that statement in his report)

Now I don't know any details about this incident other than what has been posted here. I'm hoping the Officers involved acted accordingly and the investigation concludeds such. I guess the fact that I referred to this hypothetical armed person as an OFFENDER slipped by a few geniuses here. When confronted by an OFFENDER armed with a handgun, you don't have to let him point the gun at you. You shoot when you reasonably believe your life is in danger due to the armed OFFENDER. Let's say this OFFENDER is pulling a gun from his waistband. Are you going to wait until it's pointed at you? Let's say this OFFENDER drops his gun while he's running from you, then he turns around to pick it up. At what point do you decide he's a deadly threat? Do you let him pick it up and keep running, possibly allowing him to shoot you or someone else? What if he picks it up and decides he's done running? Let's say that OFFENDER had already shot at you and missed. Now his gun fell as he was fleeing. He's picking it up again. Do you let him point it at you? There's a reason the police tend to yell "drop the gun" when they can't immediately identify who might be an offender. Anyone not wishing to do them harm will probably drop their gun and state their intentions or identify themselves as an officer if they are one. I didn't say you can go around shooting everyone who happens to have a gun. I simply stated, correctly, that you don't have to let someone point a gun at you before you're legally justified in shooting them. Reading comprehension is a skill. Learn it before calling anyone a dumbass.

This post and most of others are written by people with little or no time on the job. Yes he was the working police and he's a guy who appreciates when good work gets done. There's guys who get on his radar maybe because they fuck up? Then the are upset because he has do something about it but that is his JOB. Time to look in the mirror.
