Despite Rahm's efforts, ICE is conducting raids in Chicago:
- A Chicago bakery lost 800 workers to an immigration raid earlier this year.
Bloomberg reports that the Cloverhill Bakery on the Northwest Side, lost more than a third of its employees who didn’t have sufficient documentation.
The Swiss-based company makes hamburger buns for McDonald’s and other chains.
A spokesman said the bakery is struggling to replace staff, is facing pressure to raise wages, and has lost $21 million due to the disruption.
Isn't there an under-served minority group suffering high unemployment with actual legal identification who might be desirous of these jobs?

Unfortunately that demographic does not wish to work for low wages. It is stigmatizing and racist. Having worked in the private sector, I can say that employers do not want them either due to low productivity, high injury rates, and lots of complaints.
Could anyone produce a clearer example of the "Real Issue" when it comes to Illegal Immigration? I would venture to guess that the vast majority of those former employees came from Mexico and Central America, with a sprinkling of Illegal Polish representation. Hispanics are the fastest growing population in Chicago, and according to some, have already passed Blacks as the largest Minority in Chicago. So there should be no shortage of Hispanics to fill those vacancies. Except for the simple reality that the Hispanics here legally are not going to work for slave wages. Mexican immigrants work very hard and no one can deny that. But, because they are illegal they can easily be taken advantage of when it comes to wages and benefits. The question that no one wants to address here is why is there a large unemployment rate among blacks in Chicago when these jobs are being filled by illegal immigrants? Besides that, there are thousands of technical jobs with great pay unfilled because there is a great shortage of trained workers. Out city colleges are not doing their jobs, our public schools are not doing their jobs and finally, black families are not doing their jobs.
I’m sure there are a few that would take a job if offered to them. But why work if you can stay home and live off the Government Teat?

Cloverhill did try and recruit minorities. Sadly, they never showed up, or if they did, they were marginal workers at the best.

The problem with Cloverhill is that they looked the other way, and instead of spending a few buck to try and get the employees proper documentation, they just blew it off. I ride the Pace 379 bus from Midway out to the Southwest suburbs when I come into town to visit family. The bus goes south down Cicero and then turns west at 79th St, where the bus fills up with young black adults on their way to 3rd shift package sorting and factory jobs.
79th & Cicero is a rotten spot to have to wait for a bus - it's a tiny corner that's exposed to the wind and all the traffic whizzing by. The kids used to be able to wait at Ford City, but the bus no longer pulls in there. I assume most of them have to take at least one other bus just to get to 79th & Cicero. And when they get off at their stops along 79th St, they have a fair hike yet to get to their work places over in Bedford Park.
It breaks my heart to think of these kids doing the reverse commute late at night, going back to crappy neighborhoods where they might get shot just coming home from work.
How bout the baker hook up with CPS and get a program for kids not cut out for college
to get some vocational training and real-life job experience while the baker gets to pay minimum wage?

I am retired, but there was a Hispanic guy at work. We both got along well, went out for beers together, out to eat, etc. We were not "friends", per se, but just co-workers who got along.
We both worked any/all overtime, days off, etc offered. That love of getting ahead, building the pension was nice.

It's obvious that no employer wants to hire ghetto folks. Constant absenteeism, being tardy due to family drama, theft, every workplace incident grounds for racism/harrassment/I needs respects - stay home!
The bakery did not employ these workers, it was a temporary staffing firm. The 800 were not all located at the single bakery location but over more than one. I understand why people would call for a boycott for using undocumented workers, but I happen to know the staffing company provided fraudulent paperwork showing they were in compliance. It's not just the 800 undocumented, there were and will be more layoffs coming of documented permenant employees and that's a shame.
If every employer of illegal aliens got fined 100K for each alien they hired, they'd all be fired tomorrow. None of this nonsense will end until there is pain felt by those who are aiding and abetting it.
Fines for those who rent to them, fines for those who hire them. Slap an 80% tax on money wired to Mexico as well. Cockroaches leave for greener pastures when they don't have shelter or food.

First of all, they are not undocumented temp labor, they are criminal illegal aliens, big difference. They committed a crime when they crossed the border.
Secondly, you offer no proof of your assertion that the company does not pay less for those people.
And finally, the simple economic law of supply and demand tells you that if there weren't an over abundance of illegals willing to take those "unskilled low wage jobs" the company would have to offer higher wages to entice the scarce supply of labor to work for that company.
Sheesh, you must have slept through economics class.

That ship has sailed. Have you been to a Mickey D's lately? They are loaded with illegal employees. It is getting to a point that you can barely understand the person working the cash register there.

first of all, the company does not pay less for those people.
second of all, the only reason a company would put themselves in a position of sourcing undocumented temp labor is because there are no unskilled americans willing to take unskilled low wage jobs.

Apparently, your definition of "getting it" does not recognize the necessity of defining "it".
This is rather puzzling, since the "it" that is gotten is plainly stated, by you, perhaps dim wittingly, in both your two "points".
Why, if the company does not pay less, then the "less" is made possible by the very willingness of these "people" to work for that "less".
Which then, as you assert, leads to the company, having created the problem, to using temporary labor sources, which, as you should know, since you have an opinion, have expressed your opinion and, presumably, strive to not base your opinion on ignorance, are either more costly to the company, IF the temp labor enterprise is paying their temp workers minimum wages, or the temp labor source is paying much less than minimum wages to the workers they, in effect, rent to the company.
Perhaps we'll just all have to bake our own bread.

That, and the fact that the left is pushing for entry level jobs like Mc Donald's to now pay a living wage of $15 an hour.
Those jobs are for students and moms who want to work part time, they were never meant to be for adults with families to support.
Just another example of the left's twisted logic.
