Final Honor

You can find coverage at all the usual media outlets on the right hand side of the blog.

This one was unexpected though:
  • The $95 million police and fire training academy in West Garfield Park that has drawn opposition from Chance the Rapper and college students around the nation will be named after slain Chicago Police Cmdr. Paul Bauer.
RIP Commander.

With the emotional week and the comments being down as of late, I haven’t submitted a comment this week, but one thing I’d like to add was that on Thursday night’s Hawks telecast, there was a moment of silence before the anthem for Commander Bauer, and Pat Foley mentioned the commander’s wife and daughter by name, sending condolences and saying what a good man and big Hawks fan Commander Bauer was. Also, Patrick Kane, Patrick Sharp, Duncan Keith and Brent Seabrook attended the wake on Friday. Classy gestures by a classy organization. The players didn’t have to do that, but they did. Good people.

Godspeed Commander.

I totally respect what Commander Bauer and what he stood for. I think it's a great honor to have something named after him. I think they should name something big after him and many others who lost their lives in the cities name. I believe its politics as usual, they are trying to sell us on the idea we need a new academy and they don't want to pay their bills. I would rather have lower taxes and a pension than a new academy. I believe we should make do until we as a city are more financially stable. I plan on moving out in seven years because of the high taxes and crime. The politicians here are full of crap and they never let a tragedy go to waist either.

I have noticed lately that a Chance the Rapper gets a LOT of air time and coverage on many of the TV channels. Is he considered "the Role Model" that the media wants to promote?

AND - why is his two cents the big concern that gets amplified by the Media? Just wondering?

Who cares what he thinks about putting up a training facility - anywhere?

Look at all those on-line colleges out there. All police training could be done at home.

It is a nice honor, but at the same time, the Mayor making this decision is nothing short of politicizing Commander Bauer's death. We don't have money for the Academy, a lot of people - including Police - don't want it. He's simply using this moment to move his agenda forward, that same agenda that rewards his connected friends. After the disgusting, whore-ish display he's put on all week, I don't see how any police can vote for him. He's as stained as Kim Foxx and Preckwinkle.

Nice Gesture Emmanuel on naming the Academy BUT Police Academies historically are to be located centrally in the city so ALL can get to them.

WE KNOW YOU ARE FROM THE SUBURBS (thats why crime is out of control) and didn't know this but everybody from Chicago knows this.

How about that land the city already owns where Michael Reese was that is 85 acres and SaVE that taxpayer money.

An honor for sure, but not enough to quell my grief, which has recently turned to anger for many reasons. Some, in our ranks, could use some manners training. Many couldn't leave (or refrain from using) their cellphone in their car for a wake? And vulgar language in a church basement is still, technically, inside of a church. "Un-fucking believable!". Yes, those were YOUR words, which I heard from two rows away. You said that while wearing your blouse with civilians and families with kids nearby! Check yourself Office!

What about the Timothy J. O'Connor Training Academy at 1300 W. Jackson? Officer O'Connor was killed in the line of duty in 1922 and the academy was named after him in 1976. I am in favor of doing something for Cmdr. Bauer, but Officer O'Connor also lost his life in the line of duty and it seems to me that he is being kicked aside in favor of someone else. Officer O'Connor is being forgotten. What about changing an expressway name or other government building to honor Cmdr Bauer. Perhaps the 018 district building would be a more appropriate honor to remember Cmdr. Bauer.

It was reassuring to see all the agencies that participating and reassuring to see, in person, that there are people who care about the police and that there are police who care about us. Stay safe. God bless all of you and remember Commander Bauer and his family.

I am not a police officer or firefighter but came out to pay my respects as a neighbor.I was amazed by an incident at Commander Bauers Funeral that is going unreported and had the earmarks of his spirit of selflessness involving a disheveled possibly homeless woman having a seizure and having to be brought by to life a combined effort of CFD and CPD Officers . It was striking the true professionalism of those fighting back their own grief dressed in their Spotless Dress Uniforms on their hands and knees bringing back to life a person they've never met. If anything showed the best of this city it overwhelmingly spoke volumes about the heart of Chicago. God Bless those TRUE HEROES!

Mayor Rahm Emanuel in a statement. “For decades to come, every police and fire recruit learning to protect and serve Chicagoans will train in the Paul R. Bauer Academy, and be inspired by the example he set for us all.’’
---

Rahm loves the police so much that he canceled all retired police and firefighters health insurance over two years ago.

Sorry to get on the ballerina here, RIP Cmdr Bauer, I worked in 018 and retired from 019.

Grunt Style has teamed up with the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation to offer a T-shirt and hoodie to honor the memory of Commander Paul Bauer. 100% of the profit will go to his family. $25 for the shirt and $40 for the hoodie. They're only selling these until March 3. In addition to helping the family of one of our own, you'll also get a very comfortable and great quality shirt. The company was also founded by military veterans and employs many veterans. They also make their products in the USA. Everything they sell comes with a lifetime guarantee also. From their site:

"EVERYTHING FROM GRUNT STYLE IS GUARANTEED FOR LIFE!

Yup. Everything. For any reason. Including tears, holes, loose threads, beer stains - even blood stains from defending the American Flag."

https://www.gruntstyle.com/products/chicago-police-memorial-foundation

There's a pop-up ticker at the bottom of their page that shows what people are buying. While I was at their site, I saw people from Colorado, Oklahoma, and around Illinois buying these shirts. People across the country are supporting Commander Bauer's family. Let's do our part.

The following is from the young 35th alderman Carlos Rosa. This clown is a socialist who pretty much hates the police. I’m sure as do most politicians in the city. Give it some time, like a couple of weeks after Commander Bauer’s death for hate to thrust its ugly head against the police. The excerpt is from his official email back in the fall of 2017.

As you may have read, last week the Chicago City Council voted on a $9.6 million land acquisition deal. This was the first vote the City Council took on Mayor Emanuel's plan to build a $95 million cop and fire training academy. I joined with 40 community groups leading the #NoCopAcademy campaign - including Black Lives Matter Chicago, Black Youth Project 100, Grassroots Collaborative, and National Lawyers Guild Chicago - and voted no. I voted no because I have not found a single study that says new cement, new carpet, and new windows will end police violence and police misconduct. I voted no because I believe $95 million should go to schools, health services, and youth and job programs, not a new swimming pool and shooting range for police officers. The Chicago Police Department spends $4 million per day, and CPD receives nearly 40% of the City's annual budget. CPD is not lacking in resources, it is lacking in accountability and oversight.

Police misconduct and violence settlements have cost Chicago taxpayers approximately $660 million in the last ten years. Given that a new police and fire academy would not address police misconduct and violence, I believe that a lucrative real estate scheme is the primary motivation behind the Mayor's plan to build a new academy on the West Side. The existing fire academy is located in the South Loop, and the existing cop academy is located in the West Loop. These two academies are currently located in prime real estate locations. By combining these academies on the West Side, the Mayor can sell the existing two locations to connected developers (and campaign contributors). The Mayor recently sold prime Goose Island real estate owned by the City to a connected developer.

On yesterday, I stood on the corner of 111th and California watching as Commander Bauer’s funeral procession drove past. I was honored and proud to see so many different police department represented from across the nation. Two older women from Evergreen Park stood next to me calling out each and every police department represented, waiting to see their own Evergreen Park Police Officers ride by. Once the procession ended, the women asked one another if they had missed Evergreen Park’s officers.
If anyone can recall seeing EPPD in the procession, please let me know. I would hate to think they failed to send somebody out for Commander Bauer’s services.

A memorial should be erected where Cmdr. Bauer met his demise, next to the DuBufet statue on the State of IL Building plaza. This will jar the memory of the numerous politicians whose failure to properly support and staff the CPD led to numerous deaths and tragedies, culminating in Paul Bauer's murder. Let our deceitful Mayor, our scheming County Board President, and our inept States Attorney be the first to take note. The AlderCreatures, County Commissioners, and State Legislators will be the second contingency of clowns who also need to be reminded that public safety is one of their primary duties to their electorate.

RIP Cmdr. Bauer

Not the police, here. But really wwas touched by the ceremony. Everything about it was amazing. The minister (I think preist) who spoke about the commander did an outstanding job. There were interesting stories included, tears, and even a few laughs. While I don't really have a connection with the police department (or a church), I felt very connnected watching the service. Thank you for a job well done. And thank you to the commander and his family for their sacrifice.

I was there in cold and happy to be there to pay respect to Commander Bauer. He was a husband, a father, a colleague, and a neighbor.
We don't need you to name anything in this city in the name of The Commander. Rahm and crooks can name the police academy "Chance The Rappa Academy" for all I F'care. The memories are with his loved one.

The Lights have been turned off in Chicago.

Commander Bauer was the last to turn off the lights.

Stay safe. may the Lord protect all of you.
