Another Lawsuit
It's almost like in order to advance, you have to be connected or something:
- After acing an aptitude test three years ago, veteran Chicago police Officer Maureen Bresnahan thought she was well-positioned for a promotion to the department’s elite Bomb Squad, even though the 11-member unit hadn’t included a woman for years.
But her superiors had other ideas, a federal lawsuit alleged. After a round of interviews, they rejected Bresnahan’s application, writing in an evaluation form that she was “best suited for clerical” work, according to the suit, filed Monday.
Meanwhile, two male officers who had the same score on the written test were put on the promotions list, even though one had been accused of beating his fiance and another received only tepid reviews in the in-person interviews, the suit said.
And if this part is true....:
- In his interview, one of the male officers who’d scored the same as Bresnahan on the written exam — identified only as Candidate 53 — was asked to describe a time when he “had to make a quick decision based on information available at the moment” — a key criterion of the bomb technician position, the suit alleged.
The officer, who had spent the previous five years in a desk job with the police News Affairs office, cited his arrest for domestic violence against his then-fiance, saying that “in hindsight, (he) would have reacted in a different direction and had ‘learned from the incident,’ ” the lawsuit said, quoting from the interviewer's notes.
You're in a do-nothing clout position at News Affairs, and you're asked about a time you had to make a "quick decision" and you bring up a domestic violence arrest? Are you fucking insane? And then the bosses recommend this Einstein for promotion?? Are they fucking insane? You might as well write the check right now.

Well.this bomb squad reject has herself been the receiver of many clout spots herself. Barely off probation she goes to the academy and many other clout gigs until she becomes a detective who then gets a sweet gig in the rbt office in 024 where she wobbles around. She hasnt done a dang thing and again wants entitlement.
MB is and always was a complete mush. This "veteran" officer spent her career at the academy before she was so smart and did so well on the ET test that she didn't even score well enough to make the 1st (massive) class. Once she made it there she did nothing but screw things up until she scored well enough to make detective. As a dick she's so good at her job that she can't clear/close a case and solve a crime if it was caught on video with a signed confession letter witnessed by a nun! Sorry but clerical work is all she was ever good for. I'm going to have to agree with the panel on this one, just because you study well does not mean you can think on your feet when you're on the spot under pressure. Simply put, shooting at a paper target is easy until it starts shooting back.

Maureen is good people with whom I've had the pleasure of working. Each promotion she's earned has been by rank order. What the assholes administering, proctoring and grading this sham of a test failed to take into account is the tenacity of someone unwilling to play by the rules set forth by the "Good Ol' Boys Club". You can't rank somebody as the most qualified candidate - denoting same on official records - and then declare them as suitable for nothing more than clerical work. This while pushing through some jerkoff who references a domestic violence arrest as relevant to being Bomb Tech material. Maureen has them dead bang and they'll pay dearly for denying her. This would explain why no bomb techs have been made off this list that's +/- 3 years old. Anyone with more than a second on this job knows every promotional exam is rife with the potential to be compromised, if not an outright sham. Seriously... where else can rank order on a promotional list be completely ignored? While I hope this action may actually be the catalyst towards legitimacy in CPD's promotional testing process, I'll remain pessimistic as I know just how deep the corruption runs in this fucked up organization. A tip of the chapeau to Mo for having the stones to go after these rotten bastards. I pray she prevails and those that conspired against her are assessed punitive damages on top of the city cutting her a nice fat check.

Any relation to Laurel Breshnahan involved in the News Affairs scandal some years ago which resulted in a lawsuit of simulator per portions??? Maybe she was clout heavy by past assignments.

Many CLOUT spots? Let's dissect this shall we:
Academy? Because she applied to go when few others wanted the spot + has a masters in education degree. Successful bidder based on lack of interest and excellent educational history/ability to teach.
ET? By rank order. And hardly a glamorous spot. You don't hear of people making phone calls to get to unit where it's nonstop shitty work. A very competent ET based on both training and working scenes with her.
Detective? Again by rank order. Was assigned to Area Central out of training and made it to Area North BY SENIORITY when bids opened up.
Wants entitlement? No, she wants what's FAIR. And she's willing to challenge the establishment to that end. Maybe if more people had the balls to do something like this, we wouldn't be in the boat we're in in terms of clout and nepotism ruining this job.
So get your facts straight, kid. You come off as an ignorant, bitter little person when you spout lies and embellishments.

On another note but interesting Netflix has a documentary called "Flint" about the water crisis where the mayor switched the water source and poisoned so many,and how the police dept went from 300 to 95 coppers, it is interesting to see how they patrol! The most amazing part is watching the mayor and police chief supporting the aggressive officers 110% who are doing the job! These coppers do the work because they are backed, but then again we are backed but they use a knife and twist it whenever they can!
Here is a thought, think about that police chief that stood up for his officers when the officer killed that crazy lady who pulled a knife he simply said "if you pull a knife on my officers expect to get shot!" then left the news media morons with jaws dropped, notice how quiet it has been! Now lets look at say JVD if real police boss would of stood up and said this the consent bullshit decree would of been gone, this would of been forgotten by now! But of course cowardly scared bosses caused the marches,the city to pay multi-millions, the dishonest media whipped into a frenzy,the corrupt court system exposed,Anita gone etc..

Why do you have to have a full duty P.O. in news affairs? Why can't that be done by a civilian?
This girl might be a terrific person, but that doesn’t mean she’s cut out to be a Bomb Tech. Look at the events in Austin, do we need someone who is constantly avoiding work or didn’t really want the job to be responding. Being a tech isn’t a joke nor is it a job where you can choose to have others do your work for you. It’s you in a 100lb suit against a Bomb. At that point clout won’t save you.

You are also missing the point- the testing and interview records show she was evaluated highly but her high marks were interpreted as qualifying her for clerical. The men were not rated as high by the interviewers and their marks were evaluated as making them suitable candidates. Therein lies the problem. Of course, why would people who launch unfounded attacks while hiding behind their computer screens have anything credible to say?

This happens all day long in the Chicago Police Department, everyone has a story about how well they did in a previous assignment before they were unjustifiably dumped back to patrol. That reminds me of the scene from the 3rd Dirty Harry flick, The Enforcer, where Harry Callahan is part of a group interviewing Tyne Daly for an Inspector position and when Harry presents her with a violent scenario and asks what she'd do, she in the end winds up quoting him chapter and verse about some infraction out of the California Penal Code.

To clarify for MB since her or AS is monitoring and commenting. The “Bomb Test” that MB scored so high on means nothing. It’s used to show an aptitude and weed down the number of applicants. That test gets you to next phase of testing, which involves a physical test etc until you get to he oral board. The oral board was monitored by HR and even included a Bomb tech from FBI. Because this applicant bombed (pun intended) the oral interview (notes show their concerns and merely said DNR) doesn’t mean that they ranked her higher because she is a woman. In fact a woman from 015 midnights is going to training for six weeks April 1st. This is nothing but a whiner complaining that she didn’t get extra points for being smart on irrelevant test or clout points for name recognition. This is nothing but a way to strongRm a spot from someone else more deserving or into a SGT class in near future.

I must strenuously disagree with your “opinion” of P. Mack. I had the pleasure of working on a Tact Team for him and found him to be a great boss who was not afraid to ask our opinions before we jumped into anything. He did not ask us to do anything that he himself would not also do. He supervised us, but also worked alongside of us; while ensuring that we carried out our responsibilities in a manner which brought credit to ourselves, our team and to our District.

I worked with MB when she applied for ET. She was always competent,hard working and easy to get along with.

You can pull up the original AMC msg to verify she was on the list for the first class. She postponed accepting the ET spot bc of her sons' schedules at the time. After she waived it, they revised the list. She accepted the spot in a later class.
You can have your own opinion, but you can't go around changing facts.
How long was she in 024 weeks? I believe she got snatched off probation after impressing the mayor in a focus group of recruits to go to work at the academy. She worked in elearning where the civilians did all the work and she didn't show up and work, OR work her weekend details. I believe Tobias took her downtown after Lodding was going to get rid of her for her horrible work ethic and job knowledge. She went downtown. Bottom line is she is smart but is NOT THE POLICE. Mo, you can quote your test scores all you want however you have been doing clerical work since you were off probation and now somehow that offends you? Someone smells $$$$$$$. Seriously anyone who worked at 124 with you knows what a joke your time there was. And STOP saying you were valedictorian. You won top academic. Before you say we are all jealous, we aren't. I wouldn't trade my work ethic and reputation for yours for all the money you are trying to sue for. Disgusting.

You have been wrong about every single basic thing- her scores, her stats, where she is from, where she has worked, who she is related to, and even how the job is done. Actually the notes from the interview show she did very well, including "good job", 2nd only to the Haz Mat guy on the scenario, remarks about her high intelligence. Reading is a fundamental skill. Try it.

Being a librarian makes her uniquely qualified for the position..."maintain and be familiar with the technical library..." Pointing that out only helps prove how qualified she is.

When are you going to learn that knowledge means nothing on this job. Take a step back and look at the 35th st bosses and the area bosses. Most have been merit because they were clouted up and unable to attain a passing score unless you were part of the last miracle on 35th st crew who someone waved a wand over and the answers drifted into their pea size brain. If MB had any clout she would have been a bomb tech. Going back numerous years Irene Jone flunked the test and she ended up the commander of Bomb & Arson,so go figure. The fix is in officers so quit whining and worry more about your future than hers. The job is not what it use to be so move on and protect yourselves from copa,blm and the other haters including the bosses in the PD and mayor and get to retirement and enjoy it. I don't know what cases you've read or if you stay on the top of law updates at all but that was a horrible shoot. The fact no one else fired should make you stop and say hmmm.Keep seeing shootings and use of force based on the "Chicago way" and you'll find yourself in a sling too. There's a reason some things done in the city don't happen outside the city much. It's usually bc it's wrong.
