Nice School Cleaners Rahm
- Chicago Public Schools officials have agreed to give $259 million in additional work to a company that couldn’t keep city schools clean, records obtained by the Chicago Sun-Times show.
Aramark will be handed control of all facilities work at most of Chicago’s schools on July 1, according to its contract, which CPS officials tried to keep under wraps.
The company, based in Philadelphia, is being given all oversight for cleaning the schools, pest control, landscaping and other tasks that in the past typically have been overseen by a school’s engineer — what CPS calls an integrated facilities-management model.
Since 2014, it has managed the cleaning of hundreds of Chicago schools — including all 125 that CPS inspected from December to February and found rife with problems. Just 34 of the schools passed those cleanliness examinations, the Sun-Times reported last month, prompting Mayor Rahm Emanuel to say he was “beyond outraged.”
But not outraged enough to stop a contract worth over a quarter of a billion dollars.

Per CPS rules, anyone who works in a facility has to pass a background check. A background check requires that they submit to a drug test. Sounds like Aramark is skirting rules. What’s also interesting is that CPS just got their credit rating upgraded ever so slightly. How does that tie into Aramark? Well, let us tell you. It’s because CPS can’t pay its bills to all of their other vendors, and Aramark is basically acting like an extended arm of credit, without officially being recorded as a creditor. CPS can not afford to make payroll, fund pensions, etc., for the custodians or other support staff, but Aramark can, and will, because they have the operating cash to sit and wait for the money. So basically, CPS is paying a shylock to float part of their obligations. That way, the Mayor can also build fancy new schools that get him votes! Oh, and did he tell you, credit has been kicked up a notch? It’s just above junk now. Thank you, Mayor.
In 2012/13, Emanuel bragged about starting universal pre-k throughout the city. He borrowed $17 million in order to do so. What he didn’t reveal was that it is costing tax payers close to $34 million, to be paid back to a team of creditors led by Goldman Sachs, and includes JB Pritzker.
In other education matters, the Mayor was hot on the trail the other day bragging about $60 million in increased funding for schools. What he didn’t tell you is that A.) the money was actually from the state B.) still hundreds of millions of dollars below the funding he cut a couple of years back C.) that decrease is actually baked into the cost increase of the contract over having CPS employing their own support staff doing custodial and engineering services that Aramark receives
The best things in life ain’t free. Sad thing is, Rahm isn’t paying for them. We are.
Gotta follow through on those kickback contracts.

The Sun Times article failed to mention that the Aramark Company located in Philadelphia, PA has given thousands upon thousands of dollars to the politicians here in Illinois. They really must like them for some reason. Sodexo Magic is owned by former NBA player Earvin "Magic" Johnson. The article relates how the maintenance/custodal jobs have been privatized. Well the real reason for privatizing is that these companies are big donors to them. Before when the school employees worked for the Board the Dems had to make sure those employees got out the vote in order to keep their jobs. Privatizing brings in more contributions and you don't have to worry about keeping those City employees on their toes getting out the vote like in the past, plus you pay the new workers less money. As for the flyer that boasts no drug test, do you really want those kind of people, that could be hired, around your children in the schools?
Meanwhile in the savage torn city of Chicago the corruption and carnage continue as the state and federal government sit idley by quivering at the thought of investigating wealthy democratic politicians...

This would of never happened years ago,the teachers and engineer's would of supported the custodian union and went on strike to prevent privatization,unions are a dying breed.
I worked for CPS Safety & Secure in the past. This is not good. There's a Sexual Offender List that was kept at least in my office and there was 134 Sex Offender in school area. Three that I personally arrest for being on the school grounds. I bet the list has been removed. They will most likely be working inside the school.

Dirty homes lead to dirty schools, if you live like a pig at home it continues to the street you walk, and everywhere else you inhabit. Pickup your trash and save tax payers money, have the teachers, teach a class on sanitation, don't let the urchins leave the room till they pickup their garbage.
I retired last year. The $11 an hour would go a long way toward paying my health insurance since Rahm took mine. No drug test will work for me too as I have been smoking lots of weed. I can keep a school just as dirty as someone from St. Sabina!

Hold up $11 an hour???? In reality Aramark probably pays $15/hour but Sabina's father Faker as a middle man gets the $3/hour per employee. So let's see: 8 hrs. a day X $3(faker's cut)=$24
Seems not a lot but if 100 people signs up through Sabina then father faker's cut $24x100(people)=$2400/day. Not a bad scam afterall.

Not true. Cps custodians were paid about $18 an hour, and they had their backgrounds checked, and did a good job of keeping the schools clean and were actually part of the community. Aramark pays $7 an hour less.
CPS engineers were paid by the number of square feet that had in their school. For instance, Lane's Chief Engineer made about $105 K per year, while it was still under CPS control. Now that Aramark is in control, the privatized Chief Engineer makes about $95 K.
What's misleading in all of this is that billed hourly, Aramark is charging well over the original amount when the workers were direct employees of CPS. They also have layers of supervisors who get paid bonuses, based on what they don't spend.
The contracts that were given out are costing taxpayers over $200 million more than if the workers were employed directly through CPS.
I'm very sorry whatever profession you've chosen hasn't worked out, but I'm very glad you don't run a business, because you'd clearly see that the incentive of one is to make money, which Aramark is doing.

Why would CPS care. We pay when they increase their tax levy which now amounts to about 52% of the total cook county property tax bill. More than half for one agency when the cut, the county, forest preserve ,water reclamation district and more only get less than half. But I guess it’s worth the investment. Look at the product the CPS is putting out. Go Chicago teachers union

I filed a report on this with the CPS inspector general. Also contacted Sophia I’m friends with the Obamas” king, Burnett, dowell, Scott W, sawyer, Beale , Munoz and others. Bet anything nothing happens as Rahm has to pander to sabinas thugs to get re-elected. And if they do drugs...so be it. Rahm doesn’t care about the safety of our children. He only cares about illegals, south and west side criminals and the uneducated union scum from Bridgeport, canaryville, the south suburbs and Indiana that’s building unnecessary nonsense in Chicago.
