This is Some BS

Can someone explain to us how the teachers can threaten to strike if their non expired Contract isn't renegotiated and signed before the new school year but the FOP has to sit and beg for a new Contract that's two years expired? And the PBPA is three years gone.

The CTU hasn't put out a decent product in our lifetimes with "graduates" reading at levels unseen outside of most Third World shitholes, but somehow have the audacity to demand raises. At least the police kept homicides somewhat stagnant for a time...even with the lies told to the media and at CompStat meetings.

My question is why then are they allowed to strike they should be placed in the same category as police and fire and have a no strike clause. After all it's a public safety issue

While our residency requirement is a state law, Chicago’s mayor can eliminate it by choosing not to enforce it. Kind of like Kimm Foxx choosing not to enforce some of the state’s criminal laws.

This is the shit way city hall has treated it’s police officers since the beginning of time. Never get a raise but they have no problem raising everything else around us. Lori says “it will no longer be business as usual” at city hall. So will she change this past practice? Of course not. She will not change a thing. Attention anyone thinking about taking the police test...DONT! Pay attention to the way city hall treats their police. You will not get your last step raise until your 25th year if you last that long. Absolutely ridiculous. And you will be forced to reside in Chicago. Go to the suburbs or surrounding states. No residency and they treat their police fairly.

Teachers organize better and go down to Springfield in buses in matching T-Shirts with clever signs.

Cops trust the controlled opposition FOP to negotiate, who clearly has failed the membership. They don't even try, just spin excuses.

Should just join teachers union to really rustle some jimmies.

Crap like this along with the terrible treatment of police officers, doesn’t make for a very good recruitment pitch for Chicago. Then throw in forced residency along with the pension problems and Chicago becomes very unattractive. Most departments across America are offering lateral transfers to help recruit but they don’t force residency and go years without a contract. Chicago is so behind. Lightfoots comments about the CPD is not helping either.

Read the History of the Chicago Teachers Union they have been activists & militant since 1898. They get what they want. And what were the police and firemen doing all those years. Well they did speak a lot about labor relations with the City in those "stress reduction centers" located across the street from the stations and houses!

You could not even convince the FOP rank and file to turn down voluntary overtime for one (1) weekend. Do you think you have enough union solidarity to force a decent contract? The Chicago Machine knows the FOP can't herd the patrol officers to take any unified action, so why be serious about a contract?

The teachers get all that attention and are catered to because the Chicago Machine knows they can and will strike.

Simple, Thanks to Black Lives (Sometimes) Matter, Hands up, don't Shoot!, and the widespread hatred of 5-0; politicians know that they can piss on the police and not receive any blow back in most of Chicago.

Try that in the normal parts of the country where people still believe in Law and Order. The public supports the police and will throw those politicians out on their asses. Start electing decent politicians in Chicago.

This is a GREAT observation SCC.

Too bad the Media does not raise this question.

I remember when I first graduated college and was a substitute teacher in CPS and went to Austin HS to sub for a Math teacher (late 1976). This was a freshman class and I will never forget the skills that they had for math. MOST (over 75%) could NOT do simple arithmetic.

They (over 75% of 28 students) could NOT add 27 and 32 or 47 and 67 or eight other problems I put on the board fro them to work on. (SHOCKING? I thought so too)

The first reaction I had was, what a bunch of stupid people. THEN, I thought -wait, how come these people were all promoted to the next grade without performing skills they should have learned in the second grade??? What were the teachers doing for all those years??

Sounds like CPS has not improved since then and the raises that they have gotten since then have not been based on putting out (graduating) a quality product.

No one can tell me CPS is any "quality academic institution" - not with what I saw with my own eyes as a sub for six months at Crane, Cooley, Austin, Clemente, and several other schools I had the chance to observe.

I left education that first year as my time as a sub teacher opened up my eyes to a broken bureaucracy - WAY BACK THEN. It looks like ALL the money they have spent on it since, has not improved it much.

If Lightfoot is such a "reformer", she should be looking at CPS to change out decades of waste and incompetence.

They're lying liberals lying to other lying liberals who rarely face real freedom and life losing situations.

They, the "teachers" go home early every day and get plenty of sleep at night. They have energy reserves and a very limited, paper degree pay increase pecking order. Their pay raise levels never depend on merit. They depend on that worthless paper degree. They never miss a family event or holiday. They get paid to take the darkings on field trips someplace other than jail.

They do not have to constantly wade through complex, ever changing laws or a hostile media, community or judges. They are not judged, humiliated, spit on, kicked, vomited on, bled on, smell things so unimaginably foul, witness unspeakable horrors or broken every single day. Oh and lets not mention bugs and wild real animals, not simply the 2 legged ferals.

They certainly aren't held accountable in horrific ways and the keep their jobs permanently.

Rather, the teachers repeat the same drivel, that they plan to repeat year after year. They can and do get even if they don't like a student or parents.

Their frustration level is less than an hour long and then it changes and for less than the next hour, they get a different captive audience who knows misbehavior is limited inside schools because there's truly no place to run away.

The teachers don't live with swivel heads and constant danger, with incredible expectations, and guns pointed at them or screaming, crying, lying, unknown miscreants. Ok sometimes a fist ot knife fight happens, but on the whole, they're subject to few, if any, life threatening events. They see the same students year after year. Their population isn't random, it is planned.

The media halos them when they are abused. They usually aren't constantly vilified.

They do not have to complete lengthy, crazy forms which may return in a year or whenever the criminal goes to trial, and sit in a hot seat trying like hell to remember weird nuances or hoping their report, words or actions don't land them in jail, financial ruin or their families doxxed. They aren't on camera 24x7 with everything continually scrutinized.

Worse, they are supported by lots of parents who ring up aldercreatures so their little darlings aren't constantly under foot.

In short, they have energy and support to fight.

Who backs the police contract? Who esures police have some regular time with their families, and can attend their children's birthday parties or a regular holiday? Who gives the police anything but distain 24x7? Who ensures the police, no matter what they've done, can go home at night?

Oh I forgot, the teschers have to sometimes buy supplies out of their own money. Blue always seem to buy or donate money for something to do good.

I've no respect for teachers. Most aren't mentally fit to tie my shoes. They've rarely saved a life or made life or death decisions. Most in my opinion, are little dictator, snobby, arrogant horror stories.

They aren't shadowed as rookies.

Organized mediocrity, and I pity the kids as well as the parents that have to deal with over-sized districts like Chicago. Overpaid and undereducated is my take on the secondary system. Lori will offer to concede on the residency issue in return for
huge contract concessions, bigger member contributions and two tier wages and benefits where new hires have a different pension, wage and benefit package etc. This is coming.

How much is it worth to CPD to escape the residency rules?

Public pensions (especially in Chicago) are simply not sustainable in Illinois. The solution is no longer to simply kick the problem down the road.

What they failed to talk about was the other border states and the fact that people shop for many other things on their gas and cigarette buying trips. Clothes groceries, ammunition predict the loss in sales tax revenue from these purchases will wipe a majority of newfound revenues the Democrats are counting on. Maybe they weren't paying attention to the Sugar Tax fiasco. So when that happens Fatso will find another few taxes to levy until there are no taxpayers left in city or state. I predict that JB will be named the United Van Lines and Two Men And A Truck salesman of the year. Sorry salesperson of the year. Penske and U-Haul will offer Fatso similar awards.

We need a leader like Karen Lewis or Paul Vallas to go forward. Think about that next election. And as for solidarity, we cant even agree on common sense issues. When we are all of one voice we will become a force to be reckoned with.

I'll be retiring very soon, and nothing will have changed during my career. We will NOT have had a contract longer (more years) that the time we HAVE had one. I will move out of Illinois, and NO LONGER remain a member of FOP 7.

Teachers have embraced lbgqt and socialism, so they’re rewarded by society with not having to do shift work, holidays and weekends off, and only have to work 9 months out of the year. Police are cromagnons, and just too darn judgmental. I say more lounges in the stations, so police can chill, more block parties less tickets, more peace circles, and pot lucks in some of the communities, and why all the guns. I think we need more police dance offs, or police lip sync contests, hand out t-shirts to the under privileged children, maybe shoes for the homeless, yeah that’s the ticket!

Yeah. But also understand Conservatives and mainstream Republicans in the state of Illinois mostly suck and never, ever take up the obvious winning issues of fighting against Chicago's violent crime and Chicago's hopeless corrupt $ 9 billion a year CTU Chicago Public Schools.

Before Karen Lewis got sick and lost 100 lbs, she was the perfect poster gal/creature for bloated big city one party Lib Leftist misrule. She was a twin of Jabba the Hut.

GOP Conservatives, suburban and downstate GOP could have scored huge points running against fat, bloated CTU Karen Lewis and noting Chicago's murder and mayhem with more shootings and murders than New York City and Los Angeles combined. It didn't happen.

Teachers can be laid off without cause. You can’t. The city can lockout the teachers. The city can’t lockout the police. The anti strike law states that at impasse, both sides are subject to binding arbitration. The teachers don’t have this provision. The city and teacher union can request mediation during impasse, but it’s not binding on either side.

If police had the right to strike, then the employer would have substantially more power of each officer. Each district would be like a school. The city could shut down a district, lay off all the officers, and force the officers to seek employment at another district. This is how the city got rid of the teachers they didn’t want. Bottom line is that if the police went on strike, the city would terminate all officers, lower requirements for new hires, only hire back officers with no complaints, and build a new police force. It’s exactly what they want, so be careful what you wish for.

The CPD did not cover up the video. The cover up was a direct order from the mayor, Rahm. He ordered the video to be hidden. He quickly paid off the family to keep them quiet. Why were the command staff protected from the legal fallout? Why were the exempt members who approved the paperwork allowed to retire without any explanation? Ask the current superintendent what his role was in the shooting? Did he stand up and say why he approved the shooting? Something to think about.

You're 100% spot on SCC, the Chicago Teachers Union is the last Union that should be 'demanding' a raise for Chicago Public School Teachers.

I just checked with THIS WEBSITE: US News, Education. Chicago has the Top Six Schools in Illinois: ......
--- 1) Payton College Preparatory HS --- 2)Northside College Preparatory HS --- 3) Lane Technical HS --- 4) Young Magnet HS --- 5) Jones College Prep HS --- 6) Adlai E Stevenson HS. And those first 5 are in the Top 100 in the Nation.

Then we get back down to reality. My Alma Mater, good old Kelly HS is 190th in the Chicago 'Metro Area' (whatever that means), #223 in Illinois, and 7,584 in the Nation. And has a US News Scorecard of 56.2 out of 100. This is pretty piss-poor when you take into account the Kelly has one of Chicago's largest enrollments.

And to be fully transparent here's the rankings of the High School our two daughters went to and graduated from: Downers Grove North HS, Comm High School Dist. 99

I didn't check this time but a few years ago when the Chicago Teachers were threatening to Strike I found a website that showed how much money was spent per student. Chicago was near THE TOP at over $10,000 Dollars per Student! And that number was only increased from that since then.

Also don't forget that teachers actually vote. As far as the results of their teaching efforts, they are working with a pretty low IQ bunch of students. Oh, the answer is so simple!

Progressives have co-opted teachers - they are the progressives’ chief propagandists. Without teachers on their side, the progressives won’t have an endless supply of well-indoctrinated (but poorly educated) voters and protesters.

CPD doesn’t advance the progressive narrative, except by being a target for progressives to hate.

Gang membership, educational attainment, and poverty drive crime. Failing to educate on the front-end leads to crime, incarceration, and police intervention on the back.
But the police will now fill the CPS gap. CPD HQ's current embrace of restorative justice programming comes after 100 years of failure to see even outcomes in literacy and education attainments for black males in Chicago. Yet the police will provide wraparound services to pursue Lightfoot's shiny new strategy of 'non-incarceral' approach to gun crimes while providing support for those young men at risk for committing gun crime. Read gangs. CPD will work in tandem with Arnie Duncan's Street Cred, ReadyChicago, and Communities Partnered For Peace despite a complete lack of evidence or historical precedent for the Chicago foray in experimental criminal justice theory. Meanwhile Chicago schools plug along with dismal reading achievement, deleterious outcome, and high school dropout.

And FOP is the obstructionist.

25,000 membership = 97% Democrat votes. (2% no shows, .25% other, .05 % +/- margin)
They’re seeking a 5% wage increase, smaller class size and sole exclusivity to Strike even if the State passes a law to forbid.
Oh, and likely a status quo on Rahm’s no pension contribution increase concession too.

The Prickwrinkle endorsing CTU also promises that if they get what they want - LL Kool J will find CTU as a “steadfast ally”.

Sad, but true. I went through CPS back in the 70s and it was pretty lousy back then. My freshman algebra teacher would waltz into the classroom and spend a good part of the time reading horoscopes, Ann Landers and talking with students about everything except algebra. This occurred on a daily basis. The biology and trig teachers weren’t much better. Don’t understand something? Too bad. They’d send kids on to the next grade regardless. Can’t say I witnessed much accountability at all, and the cycle seems to continue. Yet CPD gets bashed each and every day and can’t secure a new contract? Here’s an idea for all the cop bashers, stop calling 911 and deal with your problems on your own.

We have a “No Strike” clause. Not to mention severe penalties - I believe the phrase is “up to and including termination” - for orchestrating/advocating/participating in any kind of job action, i.e. “Blue Flu”, “Fetal Friday”, “No Tickets Tuesday”... whatever you’d wanna call it.

That said, you can decide as an individual to lay down and do nothing but be reactive. There’s absolutely no way to prove your intent if you keep your mouth shut and just do what needs to be done. Sure, there’ll be a mutual understanding regarding what everyone is up to, but if it’s not advertised and promoted the Shitty can’t do a fucking thing to make examples of people who they believe are laying down.

I’ll do exactly what’s requested of me when the requesting Stupidvisors give that order & itemize their wishlists ON PAPER (LEGAL orders only, anything else can be refused without fear of repercussions). Until then? You know what I’d be doing. The fear of litigation brought forth by officers that might be affected by retaliation would likely send a loud and clear message. Especially when individual stupidvisors are named in addition to the City of Chicago and punitive damages are sought.

Enjoy the freedom that only “fetality” can bring, boys and girls.

They should all be required to live in the city of Chicago so they can watch the students that they have taught grow up and become adults that are respectable but then again many of the ones they teach have no respect for anything their parents majority of them are one parent households anyway. Are we going to get to Chicago police Department finally out of the Chicago public schools in all the public schools that have over 500 children sexually assaulted and yet the CEO of the public schools remains at Office and Laurie is proud of her telling her is the best thing ever.

Here's what is coming:

Lori will offer to concede on the residency issue in return for
huge contract concessions, bigger member contributions and two tier wages and benefits where new hires have a different pension, wage and benefit package etc. This is coming.

How much is it worth to CPD to escape the residency rules?

Public pensions (especially in Chicago) are simply not sustainable in Illinois. The solution is no longer to simply kick the problem down the road.

Sad but true.

Pensions not sustainable. Don’t tell us, tell the politicians. That was the first thing the newly elected govern did, by 5 or 7 years. He ran on solving the pension situation and then kicked it down the road
New hires already have a different pension. Their benefits are determined by the last 8 , not the last 4. Huge difference when averaging last 8 instead of 4

--------------

They are already lowering standards and building a new police force.

I’m tired of the uninformed saying forced residency is a “state law.” There is NO state law that FORCES Chicago to require residency. The law is “Home Rule” which allows Chicago to have residency if they so choose. Springfield could care less what Chicago requires their workers to do regarding residency. If city hall decides to lift the requirement they can. If our FOP wants it lifted then they have to challenge it in court.

Wrong. They win because they always have the ability to strike in their back pocket. We don’t have that option, but we can go fetal. Which the department has. Yah there’s always going to be people working, but that small percentage isn’t what’s preventing us from getting a contract. We have overall almost completely stopped activity, resulting in sky rocketing crime and a city out of control. There are actually some good CPS schools. The difference is those schools have parents who care and help their kids with homework. They also hold crappy teachers accountable. The crappy teachers usually get transferred to another school that doesn't have parents who care. A lot of the teachers in those schools actually support the Police and all city workers but they are way outnumbered by the dog teachers who support the CTU socialist agenda. I know MT Greenwood School always has banners out supporting the Police. So do some of the N/W side schools. If you choose wisely and assert your rights as a parent you can get your child a good education. Sometimes its hard but we pay lots of property taxes for these schools.

Sorry ibob, but their threats are always followed by the threatened actions. Unlike the FOP and CPD of useless and idol threats which the city administrations pay no attention to. Thearts are one thing actions are what count and the CPU get actions from its members.

Glad to see my post got 9:59 to the bathroom so he could take time to relieve his constipation issues since he was so focused on turds. It is really simple start by everyone refusing overtime. There was that so hard. Two have everyone call out anyone doing anything other than driving carefully to job and writing the proper paper. Three and this is where it gets hard find and financially support law and order candidate for Kims position. Now that you have solved the your full of crap issues get busy.

While our residency requirement is a state law,

No, don't think so.

It was talked about making it a law that police had tp live in their juristiction, but don't believe it passed. It is a City Ordinance which the City Council would have to repeal.

And if it were passed it would probably apply to all City workers.

The residency requirement is not State law exactly. What IS State law is that the residency requirement cannot be subjected to arbitration in Municipalities that have over one million in population. In other words, FOP says we want to get rid of residency, city says Blow and that's the end of that. They cant make it part of the arbitration and it cannot be overturned by an arbitrator. It would have to be taken to court. Good luck with that.

Listen up Buttercup, my humblest apologies about 'Adli Stevenson HS' error, but back in the day, there was a School named exactly THAT located on the SW Side of Chicago. So no, I didn't flunk Geography -- which would have been at Shields Elem School.

And no, I haven't 'lied' about anything. SCC and long-time readers here know full well I've OFTEN said I live in 'Beautiful DuPage County'. I've also said quite OFTEN, why and when we fled Chicago and Brighton Park for these much safer environs. And much better Schools like Downers Grove North HS.

And for your edification (I know, it's a big word -- look it up), I've also posted numerous times WHY I start the day reading the News here and my current ties to Chicago. I'm fairly sure that it's not exclusive or requires pre-approval. Well, actually pre-approval IS required -- by SCC.

Maybe you should start your own Members Only Blog.

And I have NO idea of who 'Dan Proft' is or what he does.

ps: Drinking and Posting is never a good idea. Dipshit.

Since a 1981 Chicago Teachers have only paid 2% per check into their pension, CPS picks up the other 7% to equal 9% which every other labor union pays. They will strike to keep this perk.

The CTU and CPS are strongholds of power with their mantra of "It's for the children".......
However, the children they are turning out, graduating, pushing on to the next grade, are ill equipped to function in this new techno-savvy world. Now is it their fault? With no parents in the home making them do their homework, show up for the PTA meetings, show up at "meet the teacher day" - is it any wonder that they can barely read, write, do any type of math, speak proper English? So how then do they go on with life, get jobs, become productive citizens? Maybe there needs to be a complete overhaul of this city's public education system where kids actually LEARN things....by teachers who actually TEACH, instead of just tolerate and push them out.

Those supporting the CTU, remember when they had their rallies and they had their members bash the racist police, and the CTU did nothing about it. Fuck them and their worthless ignorant members

SCC, you have the power to do what the FOP is not. Just depends if you want that burden. Make PDF flyers for people to print and bring to their roll calls, and put them as posts on here. Give some summer work guidelines on how to legally stay fetal and protect yourself. Quote the contract and directives. At the bottom, give guidelines for how to deal with supervisors retaliating or pressuring for numbers, and a couple good lawyer’s phone numbers that specialize in workplace hostility, harassment, and retaliation. We need to fight back.

We need to fight back?
You want SCC to do all the work.
What are YOU gonna do?
Sit back & give orders?

Why don't YOU make FOP do their jobs?
Do you go to the FOP meetings and insist FOP do as you suggest/demand?

She hasn’t yet. But the teachers are showing the same animosity toward her that we are. Do you think that maybe, just maybe, it might help both of our causes to unite? Vast majority of teachers aren’t a rag tag bunch of socialists. Many are actually supporters of police and, fathom this: are married to PO PO.

They should also pay their full 11 % pension contribution instead of us tax payers paying 9 % of it !!!!!

6/16/2019 12:10:00 PM

You have no idea what you are talking about.

Teachers pay 2%, taxpayers pick up the other 7%

I say FOP utilize a nuclear option in arbitration; the city moves to fuck FOP and our contract with little/no raises, increase medical payments by members, screwing retirees, stripping our legal rights, fine. REMOVE the no-strike clause. Imagine that, we don’t get fired for striking, on say Fourth of July, New Years, Memorial Day. Having all of our days off cancelled no more.

Push Back begins on the controversial Smith appointment.

The only reason for the push back is the alderman made a deal to get his wife elected to the seat and thought Anne Burke would take care of her but now that the spotlight is on the family she couldn’t do it.

Please cite the portion of the constitution being violated.

Or, are you referring to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness in the United States Declaration of Independence?

I thought I heard them all, but your angle is a new one.
