Groot Wants Complete Control

  • Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s plan to fill the missing link in police reform hit a snag Tuesday, just days after the civilian police review ordinance was hailed as a great compromise.

The 11th-hour disagreement between the Lightfoot administration and the Grassroots Alliance for Police Accountability was over who would have the final say on establishing police policy whenever there is a disagreement between the civilian oversight board and the Chicago Police Department.

The mayor’s version makes her the final arbiter in policy-making disputes even though she would have to explain in writing why she disagrees with the commission. GAPA is insisting that the seven-member civilian oversight board be empowered to impose its will on policy, even when the CPD and the mayor disagree.

Ald. Chris Taliaferro (29th), the former Chicago police officer now chairing the City Council’s Committee on Public Safety, sided with the community groups.
As a number of readers pointed out, it is the height of hypocrisy for Taliaferro to support this group seeing as how he was one of the worst offending sergeants for demanding numbers from officers in predominantly minority areas. "You better not come in with zeros!" was a common directive before he disappeared during his tour, only to reappear at check-off.

Groot (wisely) does not want to cede control to a group of people driven by hatred of the police and pretty much zero knowledge of policy, procedure or law. Someone is obviously whispering to her that this would kill what little is left of the department.

I doubt you will do any better with Groot in control. Once this gets going it will be illegal to arrest any member of "da community" yet they will still have most cops stationed there. Somehow you are supposed to keep peoples and folks from killing each other but you can't defend yourself, arrest them, talk to them or look at them in a way they find displeasing.

I say it is time to put the whole "black/brown neighborhoods are over policed" theory to the test with some serious de-policing. Put the cops in white neighborhoods and see if they really do have the same number of murders, rapes, carjackings and open air drug markets. Community leaders have been stating this as fact for years. I don't know why white people haven't been calling the cops all these years or where they have been hiding the bodies. I am sure the answer has something to do with "institutional racism".

—-Completely agree with you. If this Grassroots group really believes in what it’s saying, then they should get behind it totally. There are plenty of members of the community in those neighborhoods with the most police service that believe they don’t need policing of any kind in their neighborhood. So, give those communities what they want. Idiotic white people who have no real experience in what it’s like in certain communities & buy into that bullshit rhetoric should follow the lead and go live there while that social policy is implemented. Let’s see how fast their belief system changes. It’s as simple as what it really is, people not being accountable for their own actions (having children when not capable of raising, choosing violence as a means of problem solving, not getting a job, any job to find self-worth, not utilizing social assistance in the way it should be intended (short term, not generational), raising the children you have (not leaving it up to baby’s momma or baby’s momma momma), holding your own children accountable (curfews, attending school, performing at school, consequences for behavior (not child abuse or neglect and calling that discipline), not just speaking out about violence in your community to complain when the cameras are rolling but backing it up by coming together as a community and protect witnesses of crime who come forward). Violence ridden communities should be put under a Federal Mandated Consent Decree and the Alderman, community leaders and Mayor (not police) should be held accountable for a failure to reduce crime/comply.

I can't believe they would endorse this pos. That alone is enough reason to vote for new leadership for president of the FOP.

Groot will walk that fine line trying not to piss off the upstanding members of this radical organization while still trying to maintain complete control over everything. Should be fun to watch her squirm as she tries desperately not to offend her voting base. Indeed one can expect Eddie's friend Jamal to be on the board. Remember he was seeking financial help to build a center for something or other, have to wonder where all that money went. He's as dumb and arrogant as Wheezie, he should go far.

Phil, Just put on a dress and say you identify as a 24 year old trans. The progressive crowd will cheer. Be sure and wear a rainbow flag pin and a BLM t-shirt. Groot will hire you as a bodyguard to scare away normal people.

Anyone that does anymore than they have to do is absolutely out of their mind, completely brain dead. Still you will see some that are just too dense to see the writing on the wall. Don't let them drag you into anything.

I was pleasantly surprised and happy this got tabled. GAPA was pushing for it to make it through the PS Committee so that it can go to the full council for vote on the 18th. Their intentions were to have it pushed through and then they can organize to have their friends set up for the election process in November. There are many ?'s regarding this....in addition to policy....we don't need additional elected politicians. Each District would have 3 new "elected officials" w/o any way to assure broad representation. They are being added to all Districts DACs (District Advisory Committees). Some districts have very active ones, some are struggling....all volunteers are doing it out of their passions to help their communities. These 3 positions will be PAID a stipend....more money the city should not have to pay. If people believe the reasoning behind these 66 new positions, they should be willing to do what all of us other citizen volunteers have done....do it for free. The city and citizens should not have to come up w/ additional funding for additional elections. Regarding policy input, the city could post all policy drafts as they are being flushed out, could have them posted on line for review and feedback by these organizations. BTW, these organizations seeking to provide input and guidance on behalf of all citizens of Chicago, do not represent, nor have they held community input meetings for ALL citizens in Chicago.....only a small portion. GAPA needs to go.....or at minimum, this proposed ordinance needs to be placed on the back burner for some serious revamping. Thank you to the Alderman for hitting the pause button on this!

Once again hard chargers, the SJW activists are speaking loud and clear! Answer calls, back each other up, drop paper and arrest only on signed complaints where the insistence on arrest and signature is on BWC. This was your learning lesson of the day. Not adhering to this policy will result in mouth breathing, entitlement leaching loudmouths to demand your head on a platter with your assets in their pocket. That is all.

Per the Tribune coverage today. GAPA is made up of 13 community groups. This certainly isn't a representative sample of the city. When and where did they hold these hundreds of meetings to see what people thought?

So Kevin Graham has offered Field Rep spots to Ag-u-liar, DiMaria, Donahue, Peter White, Bartlett, Garza, Julie Joyce, Preib, McGuire, Murray, Tamlo and liar Casiano.

Two problems:
1st there are not that many positions. Who is he lying to?
2nd not one of them would be approved by the new board.

Larry is in reality an invasive toxic pest known as the Cane Toad. Sadly she lacks the talent to lead or to even play the kazoo. Just wait until the new sup gets onboard. Should be an interesting summer. A good animation and likeness that shows her in her native habitat. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lSsUXMjXXp4

Oh this new board will try to make decisions, loads of stupid, stupid decisions based on nothing but their own hatred for the police. Racist, ignorant, and with a chip on their shoulder they will create ridiculous policy and always insist they are right and that their opinion should be the final word. Yet another venue for all the so called activists that know it all.

It is a real serious problem. Fund was hurting even with high stock returns and higher bond returns. This year our investment portfolio will probably lose money instead of returning an in investment of at least 8 to 10%. Huge part of supporting the fund

Now is NOT the time to buy !!!! Market has not fully corrected and with the virus and all the closings the economy will continue to drop. Think about the investors who thought at the end of February “now is the time to buy”. They watched the investments drop even further in March and lost their ass. No signs the market with rise or be able to sustain a comeback
The DOW was down 8.2% today and the S & P 500 over 7%. Was so bad they had to halt trading today to stop the free fall
So if you put new money in yesterday you lost 8 already on the new money plus 8% on the other deferred money. There is nothing right now or any good news to trigger an upswing in the market

Terrible advice. Below spells it out better. This was from like a week ago. DOW now is at 21,500 a drop of 2000. So if you bought after the February drop you just took a hosing. Time to sit back and let this market play out before investing more. This time going to change in a few days or weeks. NBA, March Madness, airlines , cruises cancelled conventions That lose won’t show up for months

The heavy selling began in Asian markets late Sunday, spread throughout Europe on Monday and sent prices plunging on everything from bank stocks and oil futures to U.S. Treasurys.

Monday's rout added to recent losses and left the broader stock market down nearly 20% – almost bear territory – from its high in mid-February.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 2,013.76 points, or 7.8%, to close at 23,851.02 on Monday – its worst one-day percentage drop since October 2008. That left the blue-chip average down 19% from its all-time high just three weeks ago. The Standard & Poor’s 500 fell 225.81 points, or 7.6%, to end at 2,746.56, its biggest one-day percentage decline since December 2008. The broad index, which is used as a benchmark for mutual
