Playing Catch-Up

  • As police officers, firefighters, paramedics, and EMTs continue to work on the front lines of the city’s fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, a downtown hotel is making its 274 rooms available to first responders worried about possibly taking the virus home to their families.

Mayor Lori Lightfoot said the city is paying for the rooms at the Hotel Essex, at 800 S. Michigan Av., to give first responders a safe place to stay during the coronavirus outbreak.

“It’s often said that our first responders run towards danger, and that reality has never been more true in these unprecedented times. We need to continue to rally as a city to support all of our first responders, because we need them now more than ever,” Lightfoot said.

The hotel rooms will not be used for first responders who are sick, but rather to provide them a place to rest away from their families, if they are worried about possibly transmitting the virus to their loved ones.
Now how about a Contract? It's been almost three years now.

And in Detroit, New instant tests will be used for essential employees like first responders, bus drivers, and healthcare workers. “I want to be in a situation that if a police officer comes and says ‘I just arrested somebody. Took them to the Detroit Detention Center and I think he’s positive for COVID-19.’ I’d like to be able to get that officer tested,” says Mayor Duggan. At least it's something.

Nobody (to be fair) has a REAL backup plan, because
that would involve too much brainpower and money to
keep updated. Doctors are being fired for exposing
deficiencies in PPE supplies, ect. It's terrible. One thing
people will remember: You're basically on your own.
To start with: Two Week supplies of toilet paper, paper
towels, baby wipes, Lysol spray, drinking water, canned
goods (food + fruit), batteries for flashlights & radios,
first aid supplies, personal medications, vitamins, plenty
of cash in 20s and lower to make exact change for delivery
people plus tips, ect. Oh, and a Bible would come in handy.

The peons not so much. Maybe the second rounds of PPE's will help. Wait, there was no second round of PPE's. But I just we were prepared for anything, let me get back to you on that. The big question of the day....what is the plan? We have no real supplies , they are playing catch up with the training of any equipment being the n95 mask which we only get one mask for this whole situation. No word on replacements. Department gives us ppe equipment that was made by recruits. And no training and outdated hand sanitizer and makes us sign for it. Not one boss outlines what the plan is for April. We have no leadership, and for the most part Po’s are bringing their own supplies if they can find them. And they want us be the police? And to add to the problem the stay at home order. People don’t care. Wow you closed the lakefront and the parks.. but you have crowds of people at the store shopping not practicing the 6 ft distant rule. Out in Wes coast business only let 2 at time.
And then we have the medical. News reporting we have 800 pos on the medical. Those were Po’s with existing medical problems. And the virus Po’s are about 50. We know that this is going to go up and not get better. But yet their is no plan, nothing to fallback on. I know their are few Po’s who will do their job when called upon but not to give us any idea to what to do is a big problem. Why don’t the higher ups call up New York Pd or la to find out what’s working and what’s not working. CDC says that were going to be the next hot zone in the next few weeks. That should be an indicator that CPD should prepare but we don’t. And not to mention the tact teams and new Po’s wanting to lock people up and put everyone at risk to the virus because they want to be the police I would say that would work if we had the supplies and polices set up to protect the POs but we don’t. They put everyone at risk.

Pure Socialist propaganda. Called the Hotel Essex yesterday afternoon. I mean wow...this sounded like a nice gesture and legitimate good idea by our leaders. And...ooops this is the first they heard of this. Let me repeat that so it sinks in boys and girls...as of 2pm on 30-MARCH-2020, two hours after the press release by Mayor Lightfoot and FOP President Graham, this multi-million dollar hotel chain stated that no deal with the city had been finalized. LMAO! Don't believe me? Call them yourself. They furloughed 75% of their hotel staff so even if they wanted to help it would take 72 hours at minimum to get up to speed and ask the few remaining paying guests to check out. As of 01-APR-2020 their hotel desks are just taking names and contact information. I didn't mention the best part. Who's names are already on the lists..."first responders"? Nope, you guessed it. Hospital administrators, doctors and city department bosses. This is some pants-on-the-head retarded Socialist BS. Chicago is becoming more like Cuba and Venezuela every day. I'm sorry Hotel Essex. Thank you for the kind consideration but walk away from this Mayor and FOP President immediately. You will never get paid for the rooms, food or parking spaces the city expects from you to give to them. Never.

Additional information...The city will be reviewing disability cases in response to this. If an officer is deemed capable, they will be assigned to provide "room service" to the hotel occupants. The lack of a contract that is 3 years late is not the fault of anyone other than the union members. It's a lack of unity and coordination. Groot knows the union members will not completely unite over any issue. If a union boss sat down, face to face with Groot and told her that word on the street is that the rank and file are done waiting for a contract. He heard that there is a "grass roots" (libs love that phrase) consensus that either the cops have a contract before July 1 or over 70% of the members will suddenly contract Covad-20. The Covad-20 virus causes sudden temporary paralysis lasting 24 to 48 hours depending upon the status of the patient's labor contract. If she thought for one minute that the threat was real, there would be a contract done.

Don’t worry, it’s not a JB Hyatt, they're not about to open their doors, not for a measly $175.
Hotels are hurting.
But what about more local inns, like EdgeBrook motel, the Diplomat and North Park Inn on Lincoln Ave, though Mannheim Rd motel row is booked with sect 8 transient leases, but availing rooms only downtown? Again, the hotel is providing rooms, used or not and will be getting paid for every day they are held aside regardless. Can I bring or order my own nurse?

They have it backwards. It should be for sick officers who don't want to bring the virus home to their families. Sgts can do their precious medical checks at the Essex.

Seriously, if an officer contracts this supposedly super contagious lethal superbug, what sense does it make to expect an officer to go on the medical, and then have to stay home, thus exposing spouses and children? Officers should be allowed to recover elsewhere.

And don't forget to demand chloroquine and a z pack if you get this. Stay safe.

Saw Becks latest email, so I called the hotel to see if my reservation was confirmed. Well you guessed it no. There is no longer a list, nor first come - first served. Hotel is now advising we have to go through our “Dept Head” who will complete the booking at their discretion. Who exactly is the “Dept Head” - Beck himself? Only for the connected?

City didn’t waste anytime rushing to the news outlets for their seconds of good press. The city and department are a joke. Not only are we disposable; our families are too! Be safe everyone.
