Why does this discussion of the numbers continue to come up? This has been answered so many time already. When the city or department talks about “police officers” this includes EVERY sworn member; police officers, sergeants, lieutenants, captains and sworn exempts (Charlie isn’t a sworn Chicago police officer so he isn’t included). Simple math shows approximately 12,000 plus 1260 sergeants and you are at 13,200. It is very basic. Now add the remaining sworn ranks and you are mid 13’s. The total number is continually fluctuating but remains in excess of 13,000. To the simpletons who continue to think that the term “police officer” only refers to blue shits, talk to Commander Paul Bauer’s family. That should be enough to get you out of the archaic thinking of just what is meant by the term “police officer.” So can we now please move on?

Actually that is good leadership on their part. Why would they risk their health, the health of their families or the health of fellow co workers. We should all be following their lead if we are exposed.

Coppers in NYC say they get one mask per shift. Someone on The Rant suggested buying a phone sanitizer as it can sanitize a phone to make it 99% germ free. The idea is that it might be able to do the same to the mask. No water involved and UV light is known to kill viruses. Get a cigarette lighter car inverter so can plug it in the car. Can sanitize a phone in 5 min, and a mask in 10 min (separately). Buy some alcohol wipes to wipe down the outside of the case so no cross contaminate of phone and mask again. The news outlets are misrepresenting the number of officers that called off sick.
At any given time there are approximately 700-800 officers on the medical for various systems/procedures etc;
800 officers did not call in sick yesterday. If that were true that would put the total number of officers on the medical
around 1500 - approximately 20% of the work force.
I wish those in charge would clarify this to the troops to prevent a panic.
In the meantime wash your hands, stay 6 feet apart, remain in your car and most importantly keep your video streaming services up to date

They went there looking for multiple firearms and a rifle per the Search warrant description in CLEAR. Nah nah nah, it’s a few people in 011 tac. A VAST majority of 011 tac hides in a hole everyday and has been the last several weeks. We are also frustrated with the handful that can seem to just fucking sit in a hole. But the sentiment is shared, relax everyone, sit in the car, do as little as humanly possible.

And NONE of them will be there to help with the daily backlog of jobs. Additional units sent to districts are never used where & how they're needed most... helping answer regular jobs, giving regular beat cars a much needed break.

Want to get off a beat car, how about answer your jobs in a timely manner & handle them accordingly. Occsionaly lock people up. Be personable. Apply to units, and take promotional tests. Riding parkers & fake t stops, & checking the board is "your career" so stop whining. & if your a supervisor leave the working police alone. There's ample manpower if they'd go back to normal duties when they're supposed to. By the way, the districts have tact, caps, & mission teams to ease the rap.
Menard prisoners are probably the safest from the Corona virus in the country. 80% of them are murderers and other long term offenders who have little interaction with the guards. Medical staff are already behind the "West side" bullet proof glass.
First Responders should be the ones housed at the hotels as not to bring it hime to our families. This department has really dropped the ball on protecting us and now our loved ones at home.

Zone 7 has been down on/off because OEMC doesn’t have enough dispatchers to cover all the zones. Between calltakers and dispatchers they have a ridiculous amount of people on the medical, i thought i heard it was 30-40% of their employees are on some type of leave and it will just get worse. I believe a calltaker just passed away from the virus this weekend.

We should have a separate post just about tips on how we can protect ourselves. Im using a steamer to clean and disinfect whatever i can and using Clorox wipes. Also clean the bottom of the floors of the squad cars. Wear glasses or goggles and masks. Stay safe brothers and sisters.

Does anyone believe this could NOT happen?? Shit. With the possibility of thousands of officers being forced to isolate, I could 100% see the government doctoring the results. Never! Once you put on a white shit doing police work is over. They won’t even write a parking ticket
Here is the problem with going to 12 hour days. First, more officers will hit the medical whether they are sick or not. If officers are working a two man car, instead of 8 hours in a car with someone who may or may not have it, now it’s an additional 4 hours of exposure. Longer days make officers more tired which in turn can take a toll on the immune system. Those that want the OT will risk it all, for me personally no thanks. Not that I’m concerned about getting sick, I’d rather spend my time doing better things
