Again with the HQ "Dumps"
- The Chicago Police Department is adding 100 officers to patrol the streets beginning next month, pulling them from desk jobs, officials said Friday.
The new assignments come as the warmer weather brings the threat of more violence. During the long Memorial Day weekend, more than 50 people were shot in the city. The following day, at least 28 more people were shot.
Fifteen percent of sworn officers currently working at police headquarters will be permanently reassigned to the city’s 22 patrol districts on June 7. This will not include officers working on functions related to a federally mandated consent decree to improve the city’s policing practices.
But it's not really "permanent:"
- Officers tapped to work the streets from headquarters will be deployed “on a rotating two-week schedule,” according to a statement from the department.
Because everyone knows that gang violence operates on a two-week cycle. Brownie and Groot have consulted with someone - probably Malinowski or Lemmer - and the next cycle begins promptly on 07 June.
One hundred officers working on two-week cycles is fifty officers per deployment. Divided among 22 Districts is about 2.2 officers per district per two week cycle - one entire car. Since the mice are already on days, they'll be ordered to be left on days so as not to disturb their sleep cycles.

To the best of my knowledge, it sounds more legit this time than before. It sounds like details are being cancelled and people are actually being returned to their unit of assignment, without hope of return to HQ.

My HQ bird has been assigned a DOG, (NOT M-F), and has been in it for many weeks. Other poor slobs with less seniority have been sent out ...! Deployment..! Omg. Ha.

The community largely doesn't want more policing, and is tired of the "Gestapo" police tactics. I suggest we back off, save the OT budget, and go back in when they are asking nicely for some police service in order to preserve Law & order in their communities.

Those that are least liked or have the least amount of clout will be regular visitors to the districts. I am also sure that some will be so shocked and scared by the thought of working in a violent area that they will break down and cry and put their clout on speed dial. I worked a stint of a few years at HQ and found that many have spent their entire career in that building, decades. A few were promoted ( detective, sergeant) and came right back to the building. Brown has a lot to learn

When will they learn. The only thing this will accomplish is increasing those on the medical. And if they ever go on the street, they will spend every second hiding and avoiding work. If they come even close to anything they will always ask for help and a supervisor. They will in fact create a manpower drain simply by their presence. Seen it happen every time they try to put house mouses on the street.
I’ve spent most of my career at HQ- we are always put on Fri/Sat or Sun/Mon DOGs in the summer. If they really want to make a difference detail the officers to a district watch for those 2 weeks and put them in a beat car or a rapid car. Instead they create a unit out of 011 or the old 007, bring in a lieutenant, a few sergeants, and a few POs to run it and handle the admin. Much like Operation Closed Market, Operation Safe Passage, Safe Summer, Safe Schools, and the rest I can’t remember. It’s just a way to bring more people into the HQ fold. At the roll calls they assign everyone to a HQ sergeant who also hasn’t worked the street in years and they tell their “cars” and I use that term loosely not to get into anything because they don’t want to have to figure out how to do a TRR or AIRA. Usually the lieutenant assigns the cars to either a west side 10, 11, or 15 or south side 5, 6, 7 for the tour but were told we can respond to calls but don’t go down on the air and take the job. After roll call 90% of the officers don’t even turn their radio on or to the correct zone and either drive to their old district of assignment to bs with the guys still there, go to their residence and drive around and run errands there, or most get called back to HQ to take care of something and spend their tour there. Sadly most have actual work, be it work that a civilian could be doing, but it piles up and needs to get done. The same exempts who come up with these ideas and want people on the street for this stuff, it used to be 1 week a month, or 1 day a week, are the ones calling the Lieutenant and saying send so and so to see me, so they can do their work for the tour. Trust me, none of us mind going back on the street when it’s run like this, it’s like a 2 week vacation from our desk jobs.
Since they got rid of park cars I wonder if they will have us patrolling the parks.

Someone tell the bosses on CW6 that when a mass arrest is made officers cannot sign complaints on a disorderly conduct charge. Everyone knows police officer's peace cannot be breached. But not the people leading this department, apparently. PO called those bosses out on it over the air. They eventually settled on reckless conduct. In every dog and pony show “HQ Dump” I saw it was a complete joke.
A few less clouted house mice would actually get “tossed” out of HQ but then even more would be brought into HQ discreetly through the back door.
It happens EVERY time they do this smoke and mirrors, dog and pony show.
Any kind of half ass audit of HQ would show this to be true.
So, if you have one PO working a full time job at HQ, and suddenly make them work half their amount of time and put the other half on the street. Don’t you need another Po working full time to pick up the slack, especially if that PO will also be spending half their time on the street?
If not, how did they justify having a full time PO spot with only part time work to do?
Seems like just another excuse to bring more POS into HQ to pick up the slack when the work starts to pile up.
It would be like saying we are going to take half the beat cars and personnel away, but still answer all the jobs. It’s not going to take long to be in a rap and need more help!

Does anyone know the true number of police officers working out of 35th street. Assigned AND detailed there. There are people detailed in there for years, but also counted in the district totals they were detailed from. So basically you’re assigned to the 11th District and counted in their manpower totals, but you spend your tour of duty at HQ.
What’s even more interesting are the people who are never seen by either the detailed out of unit or the detailed into unit. Must be a “cloud” unit.
If there is unrest, and there will be, and you have 100 police officers on the scene and none of them do anything, and then you supplement that force with another 100 officers and none of them do anything, and a tree falls in the woods, take 2 on the end.

There always a house mouse and always will be. Many years age when I was in 001 a young healthy able body female worked the desk. When I asked her why she is inside & not on the street she got all huffy. Said " I can't work the street I have kids"

A lot of the new people don’t feel that way and have no intention of working the streets. And they don’t, they cry to the bosses who give in and let them work inside. Talk to the new recruits who already have spots waiting for them
