Someone brought up a good point in the comments:
- These "contact tracers" are a ready made patronage army to run around and "harvest" absentee ballots in democrat-rich sections of Chicago
With an expected workload of seven-point-five phone calls expected from them every day, they'll have plenty of down time to concentrate on election stuff....and at $20 per hour, too.
Someone also commented that all the data these tracers collect - contact points, areas people visit, places they hang out, frequent people they meet - it's just a civilian version of the old gang database. And didn't Groot campaign on destroying that?

Since when does any politician follow through on a campaign promise. In reality they all do the exact opposite of what they promise most of the time! But the one thing all Illinois politicians have in common is they all spend money they don't have and then raise the taxes.
They have a real problem coming soon, they have just about run out of revenue sources so what comes next will be very interesting.
I for one never answer my phone from an unrecognized number and even if I did, I don’t plan on answering personal questions to god only knows who. This is wasted money. I could just as easily answer online questions. And yes, I firmly believe we are beyond the stage of this as being a useful tool, so I still wouldn’t bother. I’m not alone in this. If I, as a police officer cannot ask about someone’s immigration status, I have no actual belief anyone has the right to ask me about my day to day movements. Wonder how much info they will actually even gather which means they will have even more time for ballot harvesting.
Don't tell the CTs anything. Especially seniors, hang up, "We thought it was one of those scams everybody warns us about."

The point is well taken. Contact tracers would have been helpful in March and April, but with the pandemic winding down the position seems awfully redundant. It is like one of Pat Quinn's "violence interruption" programs which was a method to distribute get out the vote cash to his allies on the South and West sides.

What I don’t get is if someone tests positive for Covid, why does a contact interrupter individual getting paid $20.00-25.00 an hour have to ask him/her who they were with for the past 48+ hours, and their phone number so ‘they’ can call them and tell them to self quarantine?
Why don’t the Covid positive person themselves just alert those persons ? Why the middle man?
People (and folks) would more likely take the call and listen to the known source then some stranger.
Too simple to merely ask for the Covid afflicted people to follow up with a notification to those in their company and give notice.
What next, the City will hire ‘confessional -professionals,’ people that will go to St Sabinas and tell OTHER people’s sins to Fr. Faker, who will then blame them on the police and make them do the penance?

Nice conspiracy theory, but once again, it ain't true. A contact tracer may be on the phone or in person for lengthy periods helping people reconstruct where they were, and with who, on various days/times. Think of it as conducting an investigation, retracing steps and contacts. The goal is to try finding people exposed to Covid-19 and get them tested, and if need be, quarantined. Standard medical stuff; read "The Devil In The Freezer" to learn something about dealing with epidemics and pandemics.
Of course, I'm NOT saying this won't turn into a politically-fueled, taxpayer-funded, hiring nightmare, with the usual level of City oversight (laughs hysterically).
What kind of person would give them any information you have to be totally insane do you have any of these community folks people your information do you have a serious problem if you do God bless the police.
It does not matter!!!! Chicago is a majority voting liberal democratic city, almost thru and thru. Her new patronage army will not effect any votes. Nov. elections are a done deal, as far as Chicago goes.

600 street walkers at $20 per hr 40 hrs per week, to back-check some made up number of Possible Covid’s cases, somewhere’s around 110,000. Guess they’ll get humpers too and each should do 10 contacts a day.
Maybe they’ll have an At-Home program so they can work safely - save lives and still get paid for iPad Contacts.
Minimum cost for field operations just for 600 salaried would be around $2 million.
When that $56 million money gonna run out, before or after November 2nd which is 24 weeks Jun1-Nov2.
Not mentioned is the Director, Assistant Director, administrative supervisors, accounting and statistical admin staffing, field coordination supervisors, field supervisors, assistant field supervisors, field team van drivers, field team leaders, team associates and of course...badges.
Lots of surplus in that iniquitous disease.
BTW - Does the Chicago or IL Dept of Public Health still do this sort of contact tracing for the clap?

If there's no pressing need or concern to be contacted at all times, make a Faraday cage/wrap for your cell phone. By completely wrapping your cell in aluminum foil, you prevent the electromagnetic waves from reaching your phone, thus preventing the tracking of your whereabouts through your device's continuous real-time data emissions. It's cheap and easy. However, you won't receive incoming calls, texts, or emails until removed. While out, many of us can get by without making calls and 'checking in' for hours, if not an for entire day at times. You'll still have your device with you for an emergency call if needed. Make it difficult for them. Skew the data that's being collected on you, us. Will you miss a call or two, sure you will. But if a sizable number of us do this regularly, big brother gets cut down in size, and his valuable data will be in question. Any thoughts?
