- Three days after massive rioting and looting prompted the city to cancel days off, Chicago police officers are exhausted, burned out and in desperate need of relief, CPD Supt. David Brown said Wednesday.
“It’s not lost on me that our folks are human. Working them 12-hour days for extended periods, fatigue sets in. You get this risk factor that they’ve been on the front line too long,” Brown said during a conference call with City Hall reporters.
“So we’re working on relief factor for these officers. We are cognizant that we might have to pull some off the line just to get them that break so they can just de-compress from the constant verbal and physical assaults from factions in the crowd. … Their wellness from a mental health perspective has to be taken into consideration.”
Brown said he plans to provide that sorely-needed relief while maintaining the 375 members of the Illinois National Guard summoned to Chicago to control the downtown perimeter.
So if he's using the 375 National Guardsmen for relief, he should be able to provide us all with a single day off once every.....thirty-four days.

That’s all I’m asking for, just give me one of my two days off. My body physically can’t take this much more. I need a day to recoup and rest and also clear my head from the constant shit directed at us all day. Cancel my one day off fine, but give me one day of rest.

Even us ordinary citizens know that City Hall and the hierarchy of the Chicago Police Department is not at all interested with the "FATIGUE" of the front line Police Officers.The New Superintendent spews out his statement as commanded by Mayor GROOT so when that Fatigued Officer falls out or loses it they think they have covered themselves.From what I have seen,they treat these front line Police Officers worse than Prisoners of War.No food or water and no bathroom facilities for hours at a time as they are wearing full gear on their feet in 90 degree heat.
Just give us one day off at least. We need a break from this. A day to recover and spend with family to get our heads back on straight. I can barely walk my feet are swollen, my back is killing me. This is no joke. They can’t keep doing this. And to top it off they aren’t even calling us in till after 11. By the time we get everyone loaded on the bus and back to the parking lot it’s midnight or later. Wtf. Consistent 13 hour days for third watch. Fuck whoever is in charge. U asshole. Get us out on time at least.
It will be months before everyone understands the damage that has been done within the city. The full scope will not be realized until 2021. This is just awful :(
Sunday I was stationed at headquarters perimeter, I had a micro managing Sgt who refused to let you leave the lot for more than 10 min, and we got no lunch. Obviously this Sgt has no time on the job & is a coward with no leadership skills. I feel sorry to whoever had him next few days. Fuck you Stoyias

12 hour days my ass. I have been working 13-16 hour days since this mess started. They keep rotating my start time from all watches and I can’t function anymore. I am a walking zombie. I need a break so I can sleep and recharge. The guard should be used to protect buildings like headquarters, police districts, city hall, etc. This city and department have sunk to new lows. If ever the time was right it’s this upcoming weekend. Thousands of expected protestors traveling to Chicago. Coppers working into their second set of RDO’s canceled, all on 12 hour shifts many working longer.
Cantazara now would be a time to pounce. Maybe officers who were present for all of this protesting should heed the warnings of the mayors doctors and “self quarantine” for 14 days due to the close proximity to protestors. After all the city is barely open for business and prior to George Floyd’ death all we heard about was how dangerous Covid was and how we need to social distance etc etc. Funny how that all seems to be on the back burner now.
Officers should protect themselves and their fellow officers and start hitting the medical for the 14 self quarantine as was advised by Lightfoot’s own medical specialist during a press conference a couple of days ago. Let the To/Froms begin.

In reality you could have an entire department suffering from PTSD. Days of over exertion, prolonged, physical and verbal abuse. Given that most of the rioters need a safe space while in school, I think disability for the entire department is acceptable given today’s social standards..

I can't imagine what you are going through.
I took a ride yesterday on my motorcycle. Went through several towns, lots of through-the-woods. Looking around, it was hard to imagine what the situation is like in Chicago and other cities. God, I wish you weren't going through what you are.
